I’m a registered dental assistant and seeing this video come up made me happy! I’m on my way to work and I may be late because I need to watch! Haha As for you cavity: cavities are decay so we drill out the decay on your tooth till it’s all gone. We clean the tooth with an acid etch we use several anti microbial materials to keep the tooth healthy and then a bonding material that we then place the filling material on. Most dentist use a tooth colored composite (a type of plastic kinda) and there are some old school dentists (like mine) that will rarely use amalgam on molars where strength is needed. This is how most offices that I’ve gone to do it with some variations. Some places may do it differently Could obviously talk about teeth for hours! It’s my ADHD hyperfocus 😅
@@erinbailey4631 definitely! I have very nice teeth and I'm vain about it 😁. He's starting to feel better about his smile. 4 deep cleanings, one root canal and 4 fillings is what's scheduled for the next couple months
Thank You Jacob for paying your respects to Edgar Allen Poe. One of the greatest storytellers of all time, and the father of the modern Detective story.
You mentioned having sleep apnea. Cavity could be caused from that. I actually had sinus surgery , and I had a couple cavities and I brush my teeth fastidiously. My mouth was dry at night because I was breathing through my mouth when I sleep. Which your maxillary sinuses are connected to your back molars , which is why you may have issues with your teeth that you didn’t have before. The mouth becomes more dry when you sleep. The lessening production of saliva which helps to kill bacteria , can cause it to sit and form on the teeth causing erosion of the enamel.
The main reason why people used to wear a dental wrap or bandage round their head for toothache was to hold a poultice or something cold to help reduce swelling and pain.
I saw an exhibit on George Washington at a museum back in the 70's and they had a pair of his dentures among other things. I don't know if they were the same ones, but I remember being very impressed by the exhibit. I had that Snoopy toothbrush and my brother had a ninja turtle, though I can't be sure it was the same one. Also, it's always good to see Clark. I've become quite fond of him.

@@coreym162 I absolutely hate to hear that, but out of curiosity what did they do? I feel the same way about going to the dentist as going to the doctor and they put you on God knows what medication.
Hi Jacob, thank you so much for sharing this with us. I really enjoyed it. ❤❤And don’t worry all you need is a filling.. you won’t feel a thing! I have a few fillings in my mouth from when I was a child.
I’ve had a couple cavities in my life so far and the procedure for taking care of cavities is super easy they numb you up they drill out the area which is very quick. They fill it with whatever material they use and and you’re pretty much done you’re going to be like wow that was it. It’s super fast and super easy.
Poe's old grave definitely does suit him more. Thanks for another fascinating video! I feel like my teeth would shatter biting down on a bullet that hard. Lol

What an interesting museum! I was so happy to see another video of yours when I opened TH-cam! Thank you for showing us the grave(s) for Edgar Allen Poe!
Oh wow, I should have guessed. When I saw the title of "Museum of Dentistry," it didn't look interesting. But then Carpetbagger made it fascinating!! Thank you! 😀
Talking Mickey says: "Ha! Ha! It's time again to brush your teeth, So, squeeze the toothpaste, not too much, Ha! Ha! Now open wide and Brush, Brush, Brush your teeth each and every day. Up and down, all around, brush decay away. Ha! Ha!"
My brother had the Mickey toothbrush as a kid! He sang something like “Brush brush brush your teeth Each and every day! Up and down and all around And brush the germs away!”
My mom was always trying to save money and we had tooth powder because it was cheaper than paste. We would shake a little bit of it (came in a sort of canister) into our palm and then wet our toothpaste and dip it into the powder. . This was the 1960's and 70's and I remember it tasted a lot like baking soda.
I appreciate my dentist and the work he does, but all the same the idea of a dental museum seems kinda creepy, but glad you made the trip for us Jacob.

I can attest that nitrous oxide (laughing gas) is indeed a painless way to go 🤣 Had to have a problematic tooth extracted, with LG, even though it sounded like he broke my jaw (he didn't) the tooth came out and I didn't feel a thing. Best dentist experience ever! Compared to extractions, cavity filling easier.
Try not to worry about a cavity. I don't like people messing with me, either, so I get the fear. It's pretty routine and not that bad. It's really cool you've never had a cavity before now.
I don't like the taste of floridated water, or chlorinated water, either 😝 so I drink bottled spring water 💦😋 I don't like seltzer either... it's salty to me 🤷😄 I love the 'eum rule though 🦷👍💗 As always, Thank You for bringing Us along with You Jacob 🙏💝😻
The loud shrill sound of the drill and seeing the pieces fly away from your mouth is disturbing but you'll not really feel anything. It's more psychologically disturbing. Just take a Tylenol before you leave the house so that it will be working when they start to drill. Also, go ahead and brush your teeth beforehand since they actually don't do that at all.
I had my wisdom teeth woke up in the middle of it when I woke up again I was strapped to the chair, I had punched the doctor. I definitely went back to the work the next day and picked up brake drums for Chevy Suburban and popped all the stitches yeah I’m an idot I chalk it up to young and dumb

@@suemoo22 if done correctly they can save a tooth. Root canals are necessary when the nerve/pulp of the tooth has been damaged or exposed or there’s an infection. So instead of removing the tooth they going into the roots to remove the nerve/pulp along with any infection. That canal is then filled with gutta purcha (an organic material from the gutta plant) and sealed off to prevent more infection. A crown is placed and usually suffers no other issues as long as the patient cares for it just like the rest of their teeth

I hope today’s video is unlike yesterday’s video! I couldn’t watch that video to the end. It was just too disgusting gross . Pepsodent claims of Irium active ingredient was an advertising gimmick. "Irium" was being used as another name for sodium lauryl sulfate, an ionic surfactant. Tooth decay cavity is treated by a dentist who will numb the tooth with novocaine. When the tooth is numb, the dentist will drill the tooth decay to remove the bacteria and decayed tooth. The cavity is filled with dental composite material tinted to match the tooth color. Light is used to cure the dental filler. Depending on the depth of the drilled cavity, following treatment patient may have hot/cold sensitivity. But in a week’s time or so the tooth sensitivity will subside. A much better video, but slightly better. lol
