I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Tommy Emmanuel twice. My grandmother’s former boss is a good friend of his he is an amazingly talented musician, and a very humble individual

Tommy has been playing around Australia for about 50 years. He is a guitar virtuoso. Legend. Love the reaction Brad. 😊

if you never seen a guitar played like this before, YOU MUST!!! watch his song Initiation. It is about an Aboriginal boys initiation into manhood. (Hint) see the damage on his guitar? You'll know after after the song. I guarantee your head will explode.

I've loved Classical Gas since the first time I heard it when I was a little girl (probly on the Smothers Brothers Show with Mason Williams performing.) Every time I see this version, the first thing I notice is how and where this guitar is worn down. This is obviously a very favorite and well-loved instrument. (Also, I think Tommy is playing at least three different songs here?)

It's kinda worn but a lot of it is intentional. Certain guitars are roughed up to provide different surfaces for different songs. He wants to get different types of scratch or percussive sounds.
And yes, he likes to throw in different pieces of music, often Beatles or Elton John or some Aussie artists that he likes.

Tommy has been lecturing guitar students from major conservatories world wide for years......but he cant read or write music.
He is self taught, learnt to play by listening to Chet Atkins on the radio.
He thought Chet played alone, so Tommy learnt to play the lead, rythm, bass and percussion all at once.
At only 6 yo he could play all of Chets songs.
His dad quit work, sold the house, and took the family touring Australia as a family band.....dad was the manager, mum played steel ( lap ) guitar, older brother Phil played electric lead and 6 yo Tommy played every thing else on his accoustic.
When the Government caught up with them, they were made to rent a house, get a job and send the kids back to school.

Can I suggest you check out Tommy Emmanuel Journey. The video to check out is the first thumbnail at the end of the video you just did.

Nice! But unfortunately you missed the first 12 notes of the song. Granted, you only skipped the first 2 seconds of the video, and in the 1st second there are no notes being played, he just takes a breath before ripping into it, but that means all of those 12 notes happened very rapidly in the 2nd second of the video! Now while we won't get to see your reaction to it from the start, can I suggest you go back and listen to the beginning from time zero? The energy put into those first 12 notes will really put you in a different state of mind! There's a huge change in dynamics just between those first 12 notes and what comes after it.
By the way, you can control TH-cam more precisely from the keyboard to ensure you don't miss anything. Left arrow to rewind 5 sec, Right arrow to fast forward 5 sec, Up/Down arrows to control volume, Space to Play/Pause. (If this doesn't work, you need to mouse click in the video to give it keyboard focus.) Then to ensure you're starting right from second zero, you can just press the left arrow.
