Egg forgot to over the main difference between Joystick Move and Joystick camera, which imo is the main determining factor between which you'll use in which situation. Joystick Move simulates a joystick where the center is always the very center of the trackpad. It also allows you to set deadzones so you can make it feel more like another stick (like in Egg's twin stick shooter video) instead of a large touch pad - haptic feedback helps a lot here. Joystick Camera simulates a joystick where the center is at the point where you first touch the trackpad. It also allows you to do a quick swipe that will send maximum output for a duration you can set to simulate flicking the joystick (without having to cover the full area).
+Andrew Jackson I actually never noticed that joystick camera has a simulated center. It always feels like a clunky set center that doesn't allow deadzones to be set. I mainly just meant this to be a quick overview but someone else is accusing me of being misleading. Honestly, I'm rethinking if I want to continue this series.
It's poorly explained by Valves vague description, but joystick move is good for when you want to be able to just press on the right side of the trackpad and have it output that value every time. Move is good for people who struggle to control the camera due to not being able locate the center of the pad. It's definitely a feature that needs more work and explaining from Valve though and the names "move" and "camera" just add to the confusion for people. The For Honor Beta profile, mode shifted between the two, as being able to just tap the top/right/left side of the pad is good for changing stances, but still gives you the adaptive center to control the camera when not locked. I think that someone else was expecting something in depth into the individual settings for each which is clearly not what this video is for. I still think this series is very helpful for beginners and people wanting to know more about the controller who haven't got it yet so keep it up!
This series is very helpful though from my experience with Joystick Camera it does use wherever you touch first as the center point, that does allow for faster cam movement but it's still kinda shoddy

yeah, steam controller is bad at being a regular gamepad, this is where steam deck shines and this is when I use my dualsense instead I would usually go for a regular gamepad for games with proper native gamepad support, butt by now I'm using steam controller in some of those games too, sacrificing gamepad support to gyro and mouse trackpad But damn, Steam Deck will be the one to rule them all, it'd be even great for platformers since classic d-pad!
i have mine set up to mimic mouse. but for menus that require right joystick i have mode shifting. i enabled max haptic for mode shifting so i know its mimicing the joystick.
Do you have any input or a video already made regarding Fortnite and the steam controller? I already added Fortnite to my steam browser and tried adjusting the settings through big game mode but the Fortnite settings seem to override Steam's.
Benjamin Hur I don't have that one but you could try GloSC. It's a utility that extends the steam overlay onto desktop or for fussy games. I've used it for a few games. I have a video on it if you search my channel.

Usually I test the profiles EXTENSIVELY so if I upload them then I make a separate profile overview. Ones I'm just playing haven't been thoroughly tweaked (Take On Mars). Others though, I may have only made one or two little tweaks so I don't always upload. Were there games in particular that you wanted profiles for that I've played?
Ya i saw that. I was hoping that they would have something more like circles coming out from the center, like 25 50 75%. Something that makes it easier to know where you are on the pad without looking down. Thanks for answering me though
@@RambleCan unfortunately not all games have full functionality with the steam controller. Ni no kuni 2 doesn't allow to use full action sets, only the partial ones.
@@RambleCan you can have more control as in more precision, but, do you have the speed of a stick on trackpad?.. This is the only thing holding me back from using trackpad as movement rn, seems like stick actually allows you to have more speed, I strafe quickly faster, I change directions faster.. I'm really just going for the most efficiency lmfao

The steam pad needs another JOYSTICK on the right, that I belive is THE ONLY GRIP I HAVE. PS I AM NOT HOLY I believe this GAMEPAD should have had the fundamentals AND then ADDED preference(why invent driving, the steering wheel and pedals) sigh. Love your channel mate, please continue, sir :)
Egg I have found that a RTP hybrid setup that uses Gyro Mouse Like Joystick for fine aiming with JMove ( Or JCamera) for coarse aiming works rather well...Have you experimented with this hybrid setup yet?? Any ideas on whether or not you would do a short video on this?? Here is an example SC Config of mine for CoD MWRemastered.... steam://controllerconfig/393100/1727466984 Check it out and see if this might get you to do a video for analog input hybrids like I did.. I was a stubborn, late adopter of left pad for movement but now I try to steer people towards it. Once I got adjusted it offers more control.

Same. Friction Low is usually a must with Mouse Joystick, haven't messed with the velocity setting though, i'l have to experiment with that.

+0cards0 other options can't be used for camera control. They are for other things like scroll wheel, touch menus, etc.

Go to additional settings at the bottom right, then set the edge spin radius and speed from there.
