I own a couple of older Humax PVR boxes, so I wanted to see what this new one was like before buying one. I’m now thinking of getting one of these. I have had Humax for many years and have always liked the product, the ease of recording, either single programs or whole series I’ve always found very easy and useful. This new box especially with the phone app abilities sounds even more useful to me. It means I can browse the TV Guide when I’m away from home and just set things to record any time I see something that might be interesting. Thanks for all the information Duncan.
I think the way the apps are handled is interesting. Need them extra apps in then it really will be a no brainer. For sure you are definitely going to see more content than regular boxes.
I have finally decided I am going down the route ditching SKY Q there last round of price gouging is the final straw. Yes it’s massively improved hardware and software it looks like as good SKY Q software the only drawback I have to buy 2 boxes as my wife likes recording all her rubbish 🤣 Thanks for sharing your experience with this box and knowledge on certain issues 👍
H Connected my box via LAN yet still get a message that says to use these features connect to the internet next to the message is a red x but I can’t delete the message even though the box is connected. Also can’t get the remote to connect to the box so can’t set record programmes via the Aura app So annoying Steve
Also any idea how to cancel a series link? Just deleting it from your recordings doesn't cancel the link so programs I've decided I am no longer interested in continue to record.
Hi. I'm currently deciding whether to go for this box for my parents who are in their 70s. Can you remove channels to keep the guide clean and simple? They only really want to see the main 5 channels + the news channels to be honest. If I could remove or hide all the various channels, it would make it easier for them.
I don’t have one of these aura boxes but I do have a couple of older humax pvr boxes and on both of them, once all the channels have been found after a scan, you can decide which channels to display in your guide and which ones you don’t want. It’s normal practice for me after I rescan, I don’t store every found channel, I take the option to delete all the channels I don’t want displayed in my guide. For example I delete all the shopping stuff and all the religious stuff and all the adult stuff. It makes the guide much more clean and simple and tidy and quicker to get to everything you want without all the clutter. Hope this helps.
@@Rasscasse Thanks for that. Can you reorder the channels? ie Presuming BBC1 HD is not channel 1 (and probably 101), could the order be changed to bury the SD version?
@@Rasscasse I'm actually edging towards the Manhattan T3R for my parents as it looks less complicated and they don't need all the apps. They're only interested in the std catchup channels.
@@phil_hallam I don’t know if you can reorder the channels, it’s not something I’ve ever sought to do tbh. But you could delete BBC one SD and all the other rest of the SD channels, so they were just left with the HD channels from 101 onwards I guess.
Hello Duncan I have one of the boxes and I have an issue with it, would you be able to help me with it?, please, when I am recording 3 or 4 things at the same time some of the recordings don't get the signal to stop recording, they record for hours and hours and bodge up my other recordings, I have to keep unplugging the box and plugging it back in again, I have tried boosters and attenuators but I still have the same problem, I thought that the box might be faulty but they sent me a replacement and it is still happening on this one as well. Thank You. Dennis.
Try speaking to Humax tech support. Sounds like the signal is either to strong or to weak. Not recorded more than 2 at a time myself so not come across this issue.
Duncan thanks for your videos I’m now thinking of getting ones of these. I’m also going away from sky. I have sky q at the moment and use a HDMI Splitter so I can use on the upstairs TV and still use the sky remote because it’s Bluetooth. Do you think I could do the same with the Aura?
Hi, a few things I would be interested to know: 1. Can you move recordings to a USB drive? If so how reliable is it? 2. Are recordings in HD scrambled? 3. Can you create folders and move recordings into them? (as you can with the Humax Fox T2) 4. Can you rename programms and folders? (again as you can with the Humax Fox T2) 5. If you are watching a serialised programme at the end of a long list of recordings, do you have to scroll to it every time you want to watch an episode? As I do with my Humax 5000t. or is it moved to the top? I apologise if any of these questions have been answered already.
Looks very good, I take it you've done a review of the Manhattan T3? in comparison which one would you recommend? I'll now search for your Manhattan T3 review.. Thanks
@@duncansreviews Hi, yes, So I found out.. lol My preference is for the Humax Aura, but was just a tad concerned about earlier comments from buyers saying it was buggy, but am thinking that it now has had more recent updates to sort out any bugs, so would now be more stable..
This might be stupid question but do you need internet conection to buy one of these I'm just looking to watch some decent channels on tv without having to buy internet.
You can watch freeview without internet, but you wont be able to use any of the apps or other services, as soon as you power the box on you have to connect it to the internet, so if you dont have internet you would be better with a standalone freeview box.
Good review! Is it possible to speed up playback of recordings or streamed content, e.g to x1.2, etc? Sometimes you just wanna get through a boring documentary, etc a little quicker!
I keep having wifi connection issues on this box. It seems to happen when I am watching my tv recordings. I don't think its happened whilst watching say Apple TV+ you know the apps that require your Wifi connection. If anyone has a solution please do reply to my post. 😊
I have plugged a 128Gb USB memory stick into the USB socket and i am unable to write or copy files onto it. I can read existing files on the stick however. I think the USB sockets are Read Only. The box does NOT have a NOW TV app nor does it have a Netflix or Britbox app.
Great review as I am looking at getting one to replace a TalkTalk YouView box. One thing you mention the fast forward and it having various speeds but does it have a 30 second skip button like >>| or is there another way to get a time skip? Thanks for any help you can give.
Yes it does and you can adjust the length of skip. Pressing the left or right arrow next to OK brings up the time bar, extra presses forward or reverse the show by the required seconds
Looks like old Herman Munster does not like this box , he commented on every review about it on TH-cam lol , I got two and never had a problem , old Herman seems to be a bit of a grump 😆.
This is the shittiest, clunkiest piece of junk from Humax so far, and you can't even get Netflix, and it is supposed to be Android TV. Also, this piece of crap keeps changing channels on its own, even while watching a recording. Needless to say, I am sending mine back. It is JUNK! Don't be taken in by the hype and the sales pitch.
Yep, strange why there's no netflix, no rakuten, volume needs more levels as its either too quiet or too loud, and none of us can get the remote to pair with the Bravia despite following the instructions. Not as pleased with the Aura as I should be for the money
@@MinestroneOfSound I sent mine back to the seller after nearly a year of putting up with it, and got a full refund.
