Edges the song outside the gravitational pull exerted by the magnificent Mr Gaughan's version. There have been many attempts, but I've heard none as beautiful and lucid as this.
I can intuit the flight of birds within the cadence and flow of your voice are inhabiting the winds, sounds of fall fully. Great work, stupendous song, primal sound from a modern day troubadour.
Wow, a version I love as much as Jean Redpath's. Brought me to tears. Thank you for sharing your wonderful voice and guitar skills. New subscriber, and I have already shared with friends.
.. Awesome version Chris ! .. I have been singing this song for many years, never figured out the picking though .. any chance you could do a tab or a short vid somewhen please ? What tuning it is in might help too ! .. magnificent playing and singing, love your recent album too ..
Heyy @@ChrisBrainMusic .. haha yup just found that last week .. still trying to figure out the 'tap heed / rub tummy' :) playing / singing the verse part tho ! .. thanks so much for your reply, beft wishes with your musics .. jon 'ozric' ..
Well played. A beautiful version of this song. I love the little twists on the guitar line from Dick's version and especially the low lick on the transition from the C to B flat. Great tone too - those strings sound nicely dull (Nickel?), giving a wam thump to your playing. Lovely, Nick Drake-esque singing. Super stuff.
I really enjoyed your version. It's an English perspective on a Scottish song. Not Dick Gaughanish. Robert (never Rabbie. Don't know where that pish came from) Burns was extremely independent, and strong-minded, but also sensitive, and thoughtful. Probably vegetarian. I used to metal detect his former home. Such a privelege.
Sorry, didn't realise you'd replied. Found loads of good stuff. Probably stuff he'd touched. What a complex, interesting character. Also just realised I'd made a comment, and just commented again. Ha Ha.@@ChrisBrainMusic
the skipped lines mean the song makes no sense and the substitutions, like "every kind of pleasure find" just make you think the singer hasn't understood the lyric. It's a shame, as the playing is lovely but the words to this sublime song are the reason we're all still transported by it in the 21st century

Thanks so much Mark, that's a compliment of the highest regard!

You kind reminds me Nick Drake. Love your stile and your voice, keep it up, bro.
Wow, didn't think Dick Gaughan's amazing rendition could be beaten, you've done it - we love it (especially the community garden setting)
I can intuit the flight of birds within the cadence and flow of your voice are inhabiting the winds, sounds of fall fully. Great work, stupendous song, primal sound from a modern day troubadour.

The start reminds me of Anne Briggs - Go Your Way My Love, which is no bad thing. I wonder if Anne got her inspiration from this ?

I've just realised you miss a line out of the original but still wonderful
Fucking love this
Thank you very much Dan x
We have a new "Definitive" version kids.
Rabbie could describe in one sentence what others need a verse to do. Quite a long song but not when you perform. Peace and sky.
What guitar are you playing?
A Sigma x
