I'm not sure how you ended up on my feed since I am a Blender user, but this information is super helpful! It happens to be that Blender has drivers which work like connectors, so this is possible all within Grease Pencil (Blender's 2D animation tool). I am really happy I found you since you have so much to teach about cutout animation and it really does translate to Blender.
John, you have just blown my mind. This trick is super awesome. I hope your course is popular and many motion designers can make perfect character animation, like you can
You are the greatest! OMG, I have been looking for two years for a solution that wasnt junk and so far your tutorials are killing it for me. Thank you!
Wooow!! Like I've always believed, You're the King of Duik, and when it comes to character rigging and animation, No one does it better, Thanks men, You're the BEST
Just watched your Duik vs. Joysticks video, trying to figure out how to get started on character animation. I didn't realize clicking on this video that it's you again! Really enjoying your videos-can't wait to watch more!
Awesome tutorial, I've never even touched that part of DUIK. Man, this "adding extra details to the character" can get complex fast. Now you need to add that green (drapery) is following leg and drapery IS not the leg. That would mean you move green (rotate it backwards when you move leg forwards ("drapery is always late" -Animation Survival kit). Next will be changing the shape of it when character moves leg forward or backward to show the structure/curves or the leg. Next, when you have complex motions like kicking or jumping those shapes/masks/paths will be different. It is a good way to start thinking about a more complex rig that would be used in hi-quality animation. I am sure that the demands will only rise up over time for animators. This + better quality animation will probably be two separate paths in the future.
This dude is amazing! Man, thank you so much for so many good pieces of content. I am doing this trick as soon as I can! You are wonderful! Nice dedication to the content as well, the intro for the tips on limber lite was just entertaining as ever. Much love
uhm, love the smart way of doing this and it seems fast and great, but how is it you connected "trim" and not "scale"? for me trim reshapes an oval into a cake slice shape and does not squish it. what am I missing here?
Can u make a tutorial for the shoe? Pretty plzzz 🥺🥺 you're my biggest inspiration when it comes to character animation & i tried to do the shoe but it wouldnt work & got confused where to start, thanks a lot for the effort into making these tutorials, they're so helpful for beginners like me💜😊
i love your channel!! but i am new to character animation... and what would you advice? Rubberhose, Duik Angela or Limber? i am also looking at joysticks and sliders for the faces etc. Duik i have experimented a little but because you explain with limber i cant really place in my head what to do in Duik. Rubberhose i never used but was adviced by a colleague of mine. second question : where to start to learn how to animate characters the right way including drawing them the right way in Illustrator???
Limber is what I use. Its the easiest to use while also having a robust set of features that make converting complex character designs into working rigs. I definitely reccommend Joysticks for head rigs. I teach Limber in my course as well as how to prepare your characters in Illustrator for After Effects. You can go check it out if you want: bit.ly/3VB27fh
So do you have like a full beginner course anyplace for duik? I don’t see one here. I use CH for work and then lots of AE for manual animation for cutaways and limbs, etc. And I’m right on the edge between needing better rigging in AE, wading slowly into duik. Don’t seem to be any tutorials that start slow like rigging a few limbs from scratch using duik (many use old versions that don’t make any sense now.) like what exactly does each limb need and what does each tool Do at the point you click on it and what else it needs to serve that animation in detail. (Every tutorial I find is like “set up all this and then this one feature I’ll explain”) I’d like setup from scratch for basic rigs including the limb setup in AI. Also thank you, love your videos.
Check the other videos on my channel related to DUIK. I have a course, but I focus on using Limber for the character rigs instead of DUIK as I think it is way more simple to use for realistically the same result.
Thank you for this tips and tutorial :) If you don't mind, can you explain your computer setup please? Because I am using an iMac for AE but when it come to rigging with DUIK it runs slower than a snail.
This is really cool. Thanks for sharing. I feel like this should also be possible using the 'Sliders' function in 'JoySticks 'n' Sliders' - instead of Duik?
JnS connects the keyframes up to a slider, and then you use that to drive the animation, but I'm not sure it lets you pick whatever property you want to act as the slider. In this the knee rotation is essentially functioning as my "slider"
No, you can't. So you could change the "rotate end" to 100% and then use the rotation of the ankle controller instead. Of course if you do this you'll lose the ablility to use that controller to rotate anything pick whipped to it (like your foot) so you'd want to pick whip the ankle to the foot instead. In rubberhose you can add a knee joint in the "manage" section, top right button, "add new center point layer"
@@TheKeyframeAcademy it's bad. Corporate Memphis and anything adjacent just looks awful and makes me cringe. The color, the shapes, the elongated limbs, everything about it is visually unappealing.
I dont know why you would add perspective on a character that's walking on a 2d plane. I thought the example would be someone walking down a hill towards the camera or something. Not only that but you add more life to the perspective animation that you could've add to the 2d one. The hat jump, arm bob and movement, as well as the umbrella. Still a good tutorial tho
I mean, it's just one example of where you can add perspective and it's pretty common. Walking toward the camera is certainly another scenario that would require perspective but also is a lot more technical to pull off. If this kind of style isn't what you're looking for, thats okay. :)
