    I have had the HiSUN Sector E1 Electric UTV for over 1 year now. I am posting this review to share what I wish I had known in advance. I share details on what is good and bad about the product, what add-ons I have done (with the good and bad), and my experience with the dealership (excellent) and corporate (pretty darn bad). I hope this helps you in making an educated decision on this HiSUN UTV.

      It’s my pleasure. I hope it gave you some insights. I use it minimally. Mostly just to plow our driveway (about 150 yards plus an apron). I take it out only on occasion during this past summer. With very limited use it has been fine. My fear is if I beat up on it and it had trouble, finding service would be hard. Sorry I can’t give more beyond that.

      It is my pleasure. I wish it could have been a better experience. I love the idea of the vehicle. Great in theory but not backed by the manufacturer. Some cheap shortcuts and the lack of concern from corporate to make it right is a disappointing. I think it is smart to pass on it. If I could do it all over again I would have gone with a Polaris electric.

    I bought my Sector E1 for use on my 15 acre property. It's Chinese junk, but it serves the purpose of light utility use on a small ranch.
    1. the suspension is horrible, adjusted it, still horrible.
    2. the aforementioned suspension adjustment allows the front left tire to break the parking brake cable when turning hard left and hitting a bump. 2 new parking brake cables.
    3. the plastic panels break on anything bigger than brush. had a small log come through the floorboard, side panel broke when something hit the plastic fender. just took the 2 rear fenders off so they won't catch anything.
    4. dump bed does not tilt enough to drop everything out, have to use your hands.
    5. the seat covering is hard and uncomfortable, also leaves you sitting crooked, had the seat redone.
    6. disconnected that stupid reverse beeper.
    7. If I don't charge it every evening the cord gets so hot it almost melts the insulation and sometimes trips the 20amp breaker.
    other than that, it's electric, and has good torque, almost a 3rd the cost of a Ranger. get what you pay for.

    @Mike Michalowicz may I make a couple of suggestions 1) when you get out of warranty get them at the same or better specs from an aftermarket MFG - chances are they might be better than the originals! I had the same situation with BMS Motorsports which is a rebrand of HiSun, now I have a die hard with less hassle than the China originals! 2) power both the winch and your LED lights with a seperate battery as when you lift and drop the plow if more snow than usual, you will draw on your battery quicker and will reduce the juice to return to your house on a cold day! Also if you find that you are snapping winch cables swap out the steel cable for a moose blue plow strap! Hope this helps!

    • @Hi-Tech-Ray

      @@MikeMichalowiczPersonalPage Based on my knowledge of basic electronics, Yes all 8 should be change at once because you want all 8 to be the same age for charging and discharging as you ride! Hi Mike - thanks for your review. I currently own a Polaris Ranger EV but have been curious about the Hisun Sector E1. Have you considered replacing the batteries with a lithium battery option? It seems like most of the problems I have read online have to do with the bad batteries (same as the Polaris). Do you think replacing with high quality lithium batteries would alleviate any of the issues you've encountered so far? Also - hows the machine running in year 4? How many km/hours?
    Thanks

    • @MikeMichalowiczPersonalPage
      @MikeMichalowiczPersonalPage  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have not replaced the batteries. Since the warranty replacement of them, they have worked 100%. But I love your idea. Now that it is our of warranty I would probably do what you suggest, should/when the batteries fail. My over all experience is that the Sector E1 is "meh". The power just isn't there to do a steep climb. The quality of the materials is meh... a big branch went through the floor on the passenger side and a key bolt (there are two) that is used to connect the plow broke. But, for the demands I have, it is fine. It is quiet (which I love), it is no regular maintenance (oil, spark plugs, etc). And it has been excellent at pulling out so deep rooted stumps (I was suprised how well it worked). The question, is would I buy it again knowing all this, and the answer is a qualified yes. I would if there was local dealer support and the way they addressed warranties didn't stink. But since neither is the case, I would not buy it.

    Very helpful, we have had our sector E1 for about 6 months with no issues. Our property in upstate NY looks a lot like yours with hills, woods, rocks. Question- what are the symptoms to look for with a failing battery?

    • @MikeMichalowiczPersonalPage
      @MikeMichalowiczPersonalPage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That's great. The indicator is that an error code would flash on the dash when climbing a hill (even only a small gradual climb). I don't recall the flashing code at the moment. But even with just one battery dead, it would die climbing a steep hill. I used a volt meter to test each battery and could easily identify the bad ones. HiSUN would not honor it (i provided all documentation and proof), without bringing it to a service center to do that same process and wait and wait (for 2 months) to get replacements. When the identical problem happened again, I was forced to repeat the process with the service center and it took another 6 weeks. Now that it is almost out of warranty, when the batteries fail again, I will likely replace all of the batteries.

    • @MikeMichalowiczPersonalPage
      @MikeMichalowiczPersonalPage  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For me it would get an error code (I don't remember the code, but think it was 3 digits and the letter F) that would flash on the screen, when the UTV was under load. Even minor stuff, like going up a 3% grade. On steep grades it would just not have enough power and stop.

    Here I am one year later..
    The HiSun E1 has a few things going for it, like lower cost, especially for what it comes standard with. I could have easily spent another $5k+ for a tricked-out Polaris or other brand. The problem is reliability. I looked at many reviews, and saw many negative comments, but I decided to get one, since the US HDQ is based so close (75 miles) to me, plus I was assured from the dealer (who just started carrying HiSun) that service (if needed) would be no issue.
    Well, there were issues. The first time it quit running, and the problem was electrical in nature, the cables going to the fuse block had apparently become loose, arced, and then melted. The second time was also electrical, but it’s still back at the dealer. I’ve only had the E1 for about 3-4 months, and between the two issues, it’s spent a total of 5 weeks (so far) back at the dealer. The dealer has had other E1s with the same problem.
    Like many things these days, the HiSun E1 is made in Asia (Vietnam), and I’m fine with that, as long as the dealer support network is in place. One would think that’d be an easy case for mine, but 75 miles might as well be 750.
    I haven’t decided whether to keep mine yet, but I’m considering having the dealer take it back under my state’s Lemon Law. I don’t want my E1 to strand me somewhere.
    UPDATE 8.9/2022 Today marks it being 4 weeks my E1 has been back at the dealer with electrical problems. Do not appear to be getting communication and coordination between local dealer and HiSun HQ office in McKinney, a mere 75 miles away. Ugh..

      Still have it. The batteries after the 4 were replaced are consistent - no more problems. BUT…. My son backed into a tree at what I believe was a strong speed (between 5 and 10 Mph). I smashed the rear gate. The gate is nearly all plastic. The big issue though was that it went out of alignment. It felt like a broken tie rod. Pulling extremely to the left. Since I don’t have a service center near by (another reason to avoid) my auto-mechanic gave it a go. Sure enough with the alignment rack and a few other tweaks it is 95% solved. Drives well again.

    Last year, I showed up at what I thought was a HiSun dealer in McKinney TX, but it was actually the corporate office. They referred me to a local dealer, and when I schlepped down there (that sold multiple brands) they didn't have any HiSuns. I left multiple emails and messages looking for a real dealer, and never heard back. Having such a poor experience even trying to buy one, that left me with concerns about servive after the sale issues, and your video seems to confirm my decision not to have purchased one. Bottom Line is, Anyone owning a HISUN product should be Pretty Mechanically Inclined !!. I own 3, a 500, 550, and 1000 and they are pretty great machines. Maybe I'm used to owning Junk, But at 50 years old and 40 years of that I've been riding ATVs and UTVs, And anything else with a Motor and Mud Tires, And a Mechanic the Same length of time, I'd hope I know Junk from Quality..... Yes some minor things have happened, Worst being having to replace the Clutch on the '17 MSU 500. But we run them HARD and treat them just like we do the Kubota, CanAm and Polaris we own !!!. And they hold up to the beating !!. AND I've worked on the "Name Brand" stuff just as much as If not more than these Chinese Knockoff machines..... I also own a 2013 Oreion Sand Reeper with 8000 HARD AZZ MILES on it, And it's also a Chinese machine !!!! And as of last weekend, I just started having some MINOR Issues !! But it still runs and drives !!!!. Knowing how to work on them makes owning them great !!!. All mine are Gas machines. A EV would die everyday because of how much we "USE' our UTVs !!. Golf Carts don't even last a couple years !!. If you can work on them, Your CRAZY not to buy these over the"Name Brand" machines !! All my saved money pays for our trips across the Country to ride/trail with our Jeeps and these machines !!.

      Yeah... I think you are right. I would pass on it If I could do it all over again. It has such potential, but the lack of corporate backing of the product, it just isn't a prudent choice.

    If you ever do need to replace the batteries out of warranty I'd go with Odyssey if you're sticking with sealed lead acid. You could upgrade to lithium which would be even better, more than double your run time, lighter weight, last longer, and you don't have to keep them topped off all the time. I ran Odysseys in my 6 wheeler for 10 years and they were still good but I wanted to upgrade to lithium so I did last year.

      @willisarron22 Nice, which LTO batteries did you use? I got a set of used Toshiba Scib 24V LTO batteries that I'm going to use in some lawn tractors. I got a large battery heating blanket that I used to wrap my LiFePO4 batteries in my 6 wheeler. LiFePO4 can be discharged below 32F but need to be above that when charging.

      @willisarron22 How do you charge them? The build-in charger would be set for lead-acid and would be too high of a voltage for lithium.. wouldn't it? I'm starting to wonder if my E1's batteries are dying as it's not lasting as long as it used to and would love to swap to lithium.

      True. But I did buy it pre-covid. And the replacement parts then were hard to get hold off. The repair center blamed it on protocol. Supposedly they had the parts but policy delayed the distribution.

      @@MikeMichalowiczPersonalPage not because of covid, ,its china attacking our economy , buy not giving what we need to build things but not giving us parts, they make all the solid state parts, resistors, capacitors, batteries, metal, screws, mechanical parts, relays, just everything, I was supporting a factory and fixing returns, we kept running out of parts, couldn't find any to buy, every vendor was out

    I deal a lot with batteries, warranties and charging. I would say that there is a 0 - .05% chance that you got multiple batteries with manufacturer defects. I don't deal with those particular batteries nor do I have any affiliation with any manufacturer. I would almost certainly say your battery issue is coming from the charger, connectors, voltage regulator, an over voltage draw, etc. Its probably easier to get new batteries than track down the real cause though. Thanks for the review!

      Thanks for sharing that. It totally makes sense what you are saying. They did replace all the defective batteries and as of today they are all still good. It was a harsh winter and I plowed (a lot) and put it under a lot of strain. Batteries, for now, seem ok.

      Great question. The Polaris was stripped down at $12k. The equivalent Polaris was $18K. That being said... I believe the Polaris is a better value. I have never owned a Polaris so that is my assumption. Here is a basic price compare: www.powersportstv.com/compare/2020_Hisun_Sector_E1_1_vs.2020_Polaris_Ranger+EV_Base_1/ (note that is the stripped down Polaris)

      If you are truly curious, I bought it because I also have an electric car and it is cheaper to maintain and operate than my gas cars. So I want to see if it made sense with a UTV. Hope that helps.
