Another great video. I like your message at the end. "If I can do it then you can do it." That gives us that haven't worked on cars a lot some confidence.
I'm really anxious to hear your driving review of how the handling feels with the install of the C6 ZO6 shocks. Especially after seeing that you didn't put any sweat and tears into this upgrade, but you did shed some blood. Oh the things we go through for our Vettes.😁 Save the Wave👋🏼
I took the car out for a quick shake down to make sure nothing would fall off or break lol. Car felt real good, so I'll get back in it some time this week once the rain stops lol
Hi, Great video. I`m a guy from Sweden and I have two Corvettes C5-99 and C3 -78 L82. I have bought C6 Z06 shocks, front and rear to the C5 and the video will help me with the job, Thanks / Mikael
@6:23 what front upper shock mount bushing (insulator) did you use? As my Z06 shocks just came with the lower bushing. I really don't want to reuse the C5 bushings
The ride is definitely sportier now and you feel the bumps more than before. I always find the C5 suspension to be very soft. I used to have a 2009 Accord Coupe and that ride rougher than my stock C5. That being said, it rides much flatter and a lot less lean in curves. I really like the feeling, but I could see someone not liking it if the roads you normally travel aren't in the best condition. Thanks for watching and glad it helped
Sounds like you have the magnetic shocks, which were great for their time. They're now starting to fail bc of age and many owners get rid of the mag shocks bc they're really expensive. You can go back to mag shocks if you want or depending on what year you have, it's either a resistor to bypass the shocks or you'll need to tune the shocks out, then you can use any shock you want. Go on corvetteforum.com to check info on your specific year and what's required.
I actually got these locally and did not buy on ebay. I just skimmed through ebay and you need to read the description to see what you're getting. Some are front or rear only and some are all 4.
I installed all four on my 99. They are a great upgrade. I hope however, you installed the correct upper bushings. Many owners had issues attempting to reuse the OEM C5 bushings.
@@corvettemexico3575 They certainly are. Check out Corvette Forum for further information. I purchased the C6 bushing and compared both side by side to note they were a much different fit.
I have a 99 also with no Mods I got 73k on it just wondering if changing the shocks would make a smoother ride. And which shocks do you recommend. I’m just a cruiser not a track guy.
I got them used from a buddy. They're a sportier shock and you notice the difference for sure. I always thought the C5 drove like a Cadillac in terms of a sports car. Which isn't a bad thing at all, so these will tighten it up but still not too stiff.
Any idea how these would compare to the Bilstein B6 shocks? Been thinking about doing the shocks myself in my 02 C5 and your video definitely helps. Thank you.
I haven't heard anything bad about either choice. I do like how the bilsteins just look nicer lol, but I'm not sure about any performance difference. I just know people are happy with either choice.
Stock were still good, but I still can't wait to feel the difference. I didn't know if I would like yellow when I first was looking for a C5. I finally came across this one after looking at several and knew I needed to have it. Love the color and no regret
@@brandon_v1926 They were 15 years old... I thought the bumpy ride & rattling dashboard we're part of the Corvette experience...lol... through a set of Bilstiens on & it made all the difference in the world...

Had a piece of wood and compressed it with my body weight against the ground. I'm sure there's other ways, but that's how I did it. Thanks for watching and commenting
@YellowVette04 yeah I literally went and squeezed it together after asking this I didn't think it would be as simple as brute force. Hoping this solves my loud thud on bumps issue.
Cut the bushing off the front lowering bolt and replaced the rear lowering bolts with longer bolts. I have vids on those as well. Thanks for watching and commenting
I appreciate the support 🙏. All is well, just difficult to find time the last few months. I'm close to getting a few vids out, so hopefully I'll be back into it soon.
Haha. Wanted to do all this while waiting for the powder guy. I only had 45 mins a day to get things finished up and now I'm done. Of course it started to rain right as I was taking the wheels out, but they will be on in the next few hours
Thanks for watching and hope the video helps. Here's the link for the rear shocks th-cam.com/video/nMcsHJFGERI/w-d-xo.html

Excellent! Shake downs are always a wise first step. Now it's time to ring it out a bit!😉
Yeah exactly.
How is the car performing with these upgrades?
Dave does some of the best installs on you tube 👏
I appreciate that bro 🤘. You gonna be able to make it on April 24th? Hamilton Tap & Grill from 12-4pm

Glad the vid helped and good luck with the install. I love how the car handles and you'll enjoy it too. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Another great video, thanks! Planning on driving one of mine this weekend.
Sounds like you have a tough decision between which one lol. I hope to get out before the rain as well. Thanks for watching and commenting
@6:23 what front upper shock mount bushing (insulator) did you use? As my Z06 shocks just came with the lower bushing. I really don't want to reuse the C5 bushings
I got the shocks from a buddy that removed them from his car, so the bushing came with the shock. Thanks for watching
Nice information Thx for the video, how is the ride is it too harsh?
The ride is definitely sportier now and you feel the bumps more than before. I always find the C5 suspension to be very soft. Will these fit with the adjustable ride switch in the car, if not, what shocks do I need for that adjustable to work? thanks for the videos

Is the meet still taking place this Saturday in Hamilton 4/24/21
Yes it is. Hope to see you there.
When you bought the c6 zo6 shocks from eBay did they come with 4? Or just two(I do apologize if this is a dumb question)
I actually got these locally and did not buy on ebay. I just skimmed through ebay and you need to read the description to see what you're getting. Some are front or rear only and some are all 4.
@@YellowVette04 thanks!
Z06 in the font, Z06 in the back! It's. A Z06 party 😁
Dam right buddy lol. Nice having better shocks in this thing. It drove like a Cadillac before and now it's sporty.
Top of the stud is a 1/4" wrench, much easier to get in there than the big adjustable.
Thanks for watching and sharing the tip. Didn't have one, so had to make it work with what I had.
I installed all four on my 99. They are a great upgrade. I hope however, you installed the correct upper bushings. Many owners had issues attempting to reuse the OEM C5 bushings.

@@victorjohnson2093 The C6 Z06 are going to give you a firmer, more responsive ride. Smoothe is a relative term depending on the road conditions.
My C5 has 80k miles, do you think they need replaced and what is the advantage of going with the C6 shocks and did you buy those new?
I got them used from a buddy. They're a sportier shock and you notice the difference for sure. I always thought the C5 drove like a Cadillac in terms of a sports car. Which isn't a bad thing at all, so these will tighten it up but still not too stiff.

Bilstein B6 are better, c6 z06 are cheaper. Both good choices though
If your shocks were as bad as mine..
You will see a big difference...

The more I look at your vette the more I like yellow...

I need an alignment done as well. I was watching Froggy's videos last night, but idk if I'll attempt it myself or not
Yea, I want to learn how to myself, almost watched that video myself froggy has a lot of good vids
Zip tie detail, None, the rest of this is no brainer. Btw, you're paint looks awesome.
Thanks
If you remove the tie rod bracket do you still have to compress the shock?
How do you compress the new shock for installation?

And now I know. Good job
