And in the dreamcast version of the hero opening Sonic has his old shoes dispute wearing his soap shoes in SA2 where the port fixes this and he has his soap shoes on when he flees GUN'S helicopter
From what I recall there is some sort of change/issue with how Battle processes material colours, leading to duller looking textures overall, although in this video's case it could also be due to how I recorded the two games. The Battle footage was taken with component video from the PS3 version which I've had sitting on a hard drive for years, whereas the Dreamcast was recorded using its VGA output through an OSSC so that could have affected recording quality to some extent
I remember hearing somewhere that SA2 had a lighting system at one point during development, something akin to the SA1 Lantern Engine. This was dropped from the final version of the game. You can see this in old trailers of the game. Apparently, when the game was ported to the GameCube, they accidentally enabled this lighting in cutscenes, but did not apply the proper fixes that were required.
I have never seen the dreamcast version! It looks a lot better in my opinion! The colours are more vibrant, I love the sun glare, and Sonic's smirk looks better as well!

I love the explicit implication that Sonic off’d everyone on the helicopter except the pilot and still jumped out of it telling jokes and thinking he’s the good guy.
And then proceeds to cause millions in property damage to the city below and possibly killing civilians in their cars. It's not an accident that there's a line of dialogue in Sonic and The Black Knight where he says "I don't mind being the bad guy sometimes".
Notice how in the dreamcast version he doesn’t have his soap shoes in the first few frames. This is probably because they made a deal late into development
I think the Battle version looks a bit better. I like the darker colors; I like the blue circle around Sonic spinning at the end; and I think the camera is a bit more fluid than in the original, specifically at 0:30
Disagree, I prefer the more vibrant colors, the transition at 0:35 looks smoother in the original, while it has a hard cut in the port, and the "blue circle" is the sunflare effect but glitched
It makes sense though, Sonic cutting Shadow off when he calls Sonic a faker makes sense because people do that when they're mad. I've never heard anyone say people in real life have bad audio mixing because they cut someone off in an argument.
Yeah while it's probably technically not supposed to overlap, I do like how Sonic interrupts Shadow in the Green Forest scene What I find funnier though is how Sonic can interrupt *himself* in some scenes :P

It's amazing that SEGA manages to make a port look and sometimes even play worse than the original releases. SADX, SA2 Battle, Colors Ultimate. All of them suffer major visual downgrades. SA2 Battle definitely suffers the least, but it's still worse. It's a shame that these are the only official versions still available.

I also have the DC version of SA1. (My parents bought those games and consoles for me when I was a kid.)
The color and the animation of his quills blowing in the wind is better on the dream cast along with the lens flare, but I actually think Battle improved the scene. Having the camera go down and show the city and then back up to a close up of Sonic’s determined face just makes it look WAY more cinematic like an action movie.
Using mods on the pc (cutscene revamp) and other sound fixes is the best experience. I love using the Trial shoes version but with the SA2B animations and camera movement, especially here cause it's way smoother and feels more polished. The shot where the camera pans down to the city rotates smoother in the Battle version and you can easily see more of Sonic's design as he's hanging onto the helicopter.
