I really appreciate how the creator is blending the levels together. In both City Escape & Metal Harbor, the ending is tweaked so that Sonic ends up in a location that is either literally the place the boss fight takes place or at least you can feel the transition in the environment. Pretty cool touch.
Remake of my favorite Sonic game, let's gooooo!!! It's impressive they got the bounce/homing attack tech, spin dash and the rest of the mechanics. The bosses got quite the update as well and the stages look gorgeous. Physics can feel abit heavy at points, the initial jump control specifically.
the way my mind was blown when the ending to Metal Harbor was changed to actually make it seamlessly transition into the Sonic VS Shadow fight...holy crap that was GENIUS.
Honestly the skydiving instead of the "snowboarding" in metal harbor just hits so much harder. There are a few things that need work like some of the scripted event being to slow but overall this is amazing.
They would make, or would’ve made bank off of us ogs who played it when we were younger. I hope they remake 06. Removing the kissing scene and speeding up silver etc like P06
This remake is looking really promising so far. The UI is a bit basic but otherwise the visuals are all fantastic. The spindash seems a bit slow, but it might just look that way on video and be fine in reality. I’m a bit sad to lose the boarding segment from Metal Harbor, BUT having the level’s end transition more smoothly into the Shadow fight and Green Forest is a nice touch. Overall, I’ve got high hopes! Also fun fact, the developer of this game, JeliLiam, is the same person who did the Five Nights at Freddy’s fangame series “Final Nights” as well as the fangame “Aftonbuilt” which almost made it into the Fazbear Fanverse Initiative. This is *not* the direction I’d have expected him to go after that but I’m excited to see it continue nonetheless!
Now this is a REMAKE-Remake! This gameplay looks amazing, the models are smooth like butter, and the bosses! The bosses are probably my favorite part. They did Shadow Vs fights justice. I love the Spears and teleporting around the battlefield. This is what I imagine a fight against Shadow looking like. Although I really wish the dev added a health bar to the Bosses so we can see our progress.
@@tametalks6102 Yeah, it still has a bit of that vanilla Unreal Engine vibe to it and the cutscenes could use some work in a few places, but it already looks way better than many, many fan games out there, which is not an easy thing to achieve
And a lot of the ideas here are genuinely good. Like Gerald's memory tampering in Shadow. And even simply removing the weird garbage chute thing at the end of Metal Harbor in favor of just skydiving.
So many improvements, from a design and direction perspective. You can tell it's not just a clever demo, but mechanically sound. Sonic doing a bounce during truck chase with no issues...
I really like how sonic appears to handle. Like more loose and his first couple steps are nice and quick and he feels lighter too. Many games make look like he’s taking wider steps but actually he’s going slower. Frontiers was close to sa2 Sonic
6:06 this has got to be the funniest version of Maria's death I've ever seen in my life 😂😂😂 Me and my friend were laughing for like an hour when we saw that😂😂😂😂😂
The reworking of the Sonic vs Shadow boss fight looks interesting, improvements were definitely necessary there. The original was way too easy and simplistic considering the feats both hedgehogs are supposed to be capable of.
That Shadow boss fight is actually pretty sick. Love the included concepts like the spin dash clash, chaos spear from the tree, and Shadow utilizing Chaos Control
Gotta say, really impressive stuff. Really do like how to make things feel seamless, levels end at the next level. Though, City Escape already did that originally, the Metal Harbor version is really cool. And making the Shadow boss fight a spindash duel is alot better than "Mash homing attack to win." Only complaints I have are City Escape being a little too wide, Metal Harbor's rocket launch being too short (as in height, a Missile wouldn't be able to launch with such short walls I'd assume), and some stiff animations. Gotta say, hope the creator does some more work- or creates their own game with this same level of passion.
Just want to point out that, to my knowledge, city escape is that wide to compliment the Infinity Engine. Otherwise this game would not have gained the love that it has.
I'm loving the character 3D models and animations, but there's one thing I feel is lacking. The snap. Everything is fluid here, and that's good, but when you look at the original game and look at for example when Sonic goes through a speed boost or a spring, or homing attacks enemies, you'll notice the movement shift is very sudden, like a snap. I don't know about you, but I think snaps in animation and videogames are wonderful. They make the animation more engaging and delightful to see, I don't know how else to put it. And in videogames, I feel they help the sense of speed feel more accurate, and the player input feel more responsive.
This is probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen. How come triple A corporations with all their $60 game money can't do what some rando on the internet can? Someone hire this person
If they give shadow Chaos Spear powers apart of his moveset "since he doesn't have the bounce" It would be contender for the greatest fanmade game out there.
I think the cutscenes could use some work and there could be better animations…. I’d hire someone on TH-cam who’s good at cutscenes already to do it. But I like the direction…
I like the fleshing out of cutscenes. especially the hinting of Shadow's memory being altered. The "revenge" line hits harder in the original cutscene however due to the dynamic dramatic upshot angle that was originally used. Animation needs some polishing too, a lot feels pretty stiff and just blocked in. But it's looking promising.
I felt the same way - that dynamic shot made it feel a lot less "cinematic in a generic way" if that makes sense, but I think the cutscenes are a part of this remake that i personally don't mind the changes to - they're fair enough so far
Looks great! Though as someone who grew up thinking this was the pinnacle of Sonic games it pains me to see Sonic with the danger sense and the characters with side-mouths.
it’s a fine start, it looks really nice and i like the models. The bosses were handled well, the physics could be improved, specifically the homing attack, but seems to get the general handling of the SA games pretty well. Level design is mostly faithful to the original with obvious necessary improvements to accommodate updated physics, which isn’t easy to achieve in fan games. The camera is pretty awful in some of the levels that would be my biggest critique. Graphically it looks really nice in some places and bad in others. Above all, it seems like the creator has a good idea of what they want to do with this project. Excited to see where it goes from here.
The Shadow fight is super cool! That being said, I do have some issues with it: The Chaos Spear attack (from the tree?) is long and suffers from "I hit you you hit me" boss issue. It would maybe be cool to have him throw 2, then be like "grr" or something because Sonic dodged, and then charge at Sonic from there, before throwing more Spears, but this time you can hit him while he does so. Obviously, slow enough and in a way where you won't easily take damage when you try to hit him between two hits. As a result, for consistency, it could also be made so if those two spears thrown from the tree hits you, he just CSnaps back to the arena to do another attack. Another change would be during the CControl attack, I would maybe have Shadow not slowed down? Sonic isn't performing it at this time (nor does he know he can), so Shadow should be moving at full speed, but once the spears leave his hand, they are as slow as in the video, similarly to I believe, the Metal Overlord fight in Shadow Gens? The moment where he punches a bunch of debris during Chaos Control. It's a bit similar to DIO's or Sakuya's knives from JoJo and Touhou respectively Lastly, bro is a tank, wow XD Should probably have less hp Everything else is great, and overall, the fight is already super cool imo
Everything looks sick. It’s not just a remake, you’ve added some cool stuff like seem less level transitions and god damn that shadow fight looks so much more interesting than the original.
Sonic X generation and frontiers is taking the right step. But I would now like a sonic adventure game with mechanics just like sa2. Complete camera control and the looseness to move your character how you want to.
Really impressive only thing I might say is balance some of the lighting. Just some areas lost some detail because of how bright some objects are. But honestly Sega should hire you
This is pretty good. Only issues I have mainly is that Sonic's cruising speed is too fast. It's a thing I've noticed about remakes post Unleashed is that Unleashed's cruising speed is the "ideal" movement.
there are some cool things from this! like the changes to the shadow cutscene and metal harbour going into green forest unfortunately i dont think they make up for all the other problems i have with it and i dont wanna be too mean cuz its fan made but
As a proof of concept (made by one person?) this is fantastic. Love the upgrades. Game design isn't dead! Now imagine we got something like this officially released... Jk, we know Sega doesn't care about us ;-;
Ya, theres a lot of wierd stuff going on there. They should just keep the original audio, new recordings are much lower quality, and there's some odd scale stuff going on like every path in City Escape being wider than it should be. The redone shadow fight is a great idea, but its not quite there.
6:21
The foreshadowing of Shadow's memory being tampered with is a cool touch.

Something that finally tops Mentor Dex's Modern SA2 mod. Especially if they plan to reanimate EVERY cutscene.
