They timed this level to the music so well! The second you land you get "WOO", and after the first jump the vocals kick in, and the hype train just doesn't stop! It's also incredibly cool how the first cutscene leads directly into the first level seamlessly.
This game was the first *PROPER* Sonic the Hedgehog game I had ever touched. Whenever I would go to a place where there'd be a Gamecube demo kiosk (Walmart, Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.) I would play Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and stay glued to the game until I completed a level or got bored of playing...whichever came first. Anyways, I had showed my dad this level on a demo of the game at a Circuit City we were at for hours (because he was putting in a new stereo system into the car). So halfway during me showing my dad what was going on in the game, he recognized the City Escape music playing in the background and went, "That's that music you've been listening to." (yeah, I just love the City Escape song...) In 2002 I got a Gamecube for Christmas with a few games (Super Mario Sunshine and Luigi's Mansion), and the day after Christmas I got this lovely game :)

Personally i hope the cold open is Shadow's backstory with Maria then about a half hour in they take in Sonic and it plays out just like this him escaping a helicopter and running through san francisco escaping a giant semi

I know Green Hill Zone is iconic for several reasons, but this level is WAY better! Not only do you get arguably the best song in the entire Sonic franchise(and that is saying a lot since Sonic always has good music) but the level feels always like an adrenaline rush! You are constantly at high speed, beating enemies, grinding on rails and running away from the cops. This level has it all.
Im so happy i got to play this as a child i spent so many hours on this game, im 34 years old now and I am still a fan of Sonic, some things will never change. 💙
I’ve never played this game. So why is it I feel so much nostalgia from this? I can literally smell spring/summery Saturday morning / afternoon suburb / city vibes of the late 90s / early 2000s from this alone. A tear legit rolled out of my eye without me even realizing I was homesick for an era that is forever lost. Sounds over dramatic, I know.

Level 1-7 in Sonic Frontiers is basically City Escape's rail section (all of them). The end of the level is where the truck chase scene at. Ik Frontiers reuse, short, and rehash past levels but with the skin of Green Hill, Chemical Plant, Sky Sanctuary, and Speed Highway, it's fun to taste a bit of nostalgia with those cyber spaces.

Like the Gamecube versions of the first two Sonic Adventures, the Chao Garden feature would used again, only this time, you can store all of your Chao drives (red, yellow, green, and purple) and animals you collected from levels in some sort of containment unit. Speaking of Chao gardens, Chao Karate and Races are back, and so would the Chao school. Quite possibly, there could also be an online option if you wish to have your Chao compete with someone else's via Miiverse. In the Chao garden you can choose to be Sonic, Knuckles, Tails, and Amy (Our main heroes) as well as Dr Eggman (The major villain). I'm also thinking that aside from Roger Craig Smith, Sean Astin (who voices Raphael on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles") could tackle the leading role as Sonic, since I figured he sounds pretty identical.

This was my introduction to 3D Sonic games. I didn’t have a Dreamcast growing up so I didnt play the first Sonic Adventure until several years later, but I got this on the GameCube because I loved the Genesis era Sonic games. This level, the music, the attitude, and not to mention finishing it off with that awesome truck chase. This is probably my favorite level in any video game ever.
I’ll never forget popping this game into my Dreamcast, listening to Sonic’s one liners, and being tossed straight into street boarding while Escape from the City was playing. It didn’t get cooler than that! SONIC COOL! lol
Is it possible to time those downhill chase jumps properly? Like, I imagine you gotta memorize where each of them are, 'cause the camera facing the truck doesn't help.
You pretty much have to memorize it if you want to maximize your score. It's not required, though. Unless you're aiming to get 100% of the rings in the level. The game claims there are 424, but that is incorrect, as there are 440. 16 of them appear from a hidden switch you can find early in the level, just after the street boarding section, and for whatever reason the game doesn't count them in the max. It took me quite some time to memorize the locations of the rings in the GUN Truck chase section. Having the lightning shield helps, but it is actually possible to outrun the rings that you attract so you have to be careful.
Just think about the fact that this level was so beloved, they created an entire game where he’s racing around on the same type of board not long afterwards.
I never went very fast on the beginning section because the idea of Sonic running into a ton of trucks and cars and wreaking absolute havoc on the streets was hilarious to me for some reason

You pretty much have to memorize it if you want to maximize your score. It's not required, though.
Unless you're aiming to get 100% of the rings in the level. The game claims there are 424, but that is incorrect, as there are 440. 16 of them appear from a hidden switch you can find early in the level, just after the street boarding section, and for whatever reason the game doesn't count them in the max. It took me quite some time to memorize the locations of the rings in the GUN Truck chase section. Having the lightning shield helps, but it is actually possible to outrun the rings that you attract so you have to be careful.
