Sorry, I have to say that the Rode Videomic Pro sounded a lot better than the ECM-M1. The audio from the ECM-M1 with the noise cancelling reminded me of the Lark M1 with noise cancelling in that the audio sounds more tinny and processed. With noise cancelling turned off, the Lark M1 sounds great. I owned the Sony ECM-G1 on-camera shotgun mic for about five minutes because the sound was unacceptable. And the ECM-M1 has the same quality in my opinion. Overall, the audio sounds tinny and processed.
For what Sony wants for this thing, I would do a LOT of comparison research first. Yes, no wires is an advantage but if that is the only advantage, then maybe keep looking. Thanks for the review.
Hey man, greetings. I'm glad to be amongst the first viewers. Thanks for the extensive reviews as usually. It's been a while from filming, but insha'alla I'll be back
I thought that the audio comparison between the Sony and the Rode on the FX30 showed a muffled track compared to the clarity of the Rode, which I find to be a disappointment considering the price of the Sony.
nice one coach! it sounds great and it does a good job cancelling background noise. probably sounds even better (when cancelling out background noise) when using a voice isolation on your editor.
Hi, I loved your review, and I am planning to buy this microphone! Though I have a sony A7c which supports digital hot shoe option but I saw there is a usb c option and a digital-to-analog switch. Does it connect to a cable as well if one wants to use it with usb c.
I ordered one because I absolutely hate hearing my breathing when I'm filming b-roll on my FX3. Shit drives me nuts and then I got to turn in the footage to my client.
Nice integration, but too expensive. Was hoping for a cheaper third party alternative that could use the same interface, but that's probably not going to happen. Will stick to Rode or something else which almost sounds better I think.
Hopefully they come out with some firmware for better audio quality, or hopefully it can be edited easily and not fall apart, as it sounds too muffled for my liking, the Rode sounded much better. Which is a bummer because I like the functionality of the Sony mic
Yes but don’t forget the Rode needs that 9 volt. I’ve forgot to charge the 9 volt a few times and was out of luck once I got onto set. So usability definitely goes to the ECM-M1
Just got my M1. Yes, it has all these modes, but it is almost unusable, because it is so sensitive to handling of my A7iv camera. Just as bad as my B10 on my RX10. So sensitive that I can’t use the zoom while filming.
Would the stereo recordings from this clip less than the Sony ECM-B1M? I found the ECM-B1M could not handle loud K-pop Concerts without distortion. Thanks
@@thefilmalliance Interesting. I was looking at the compatibility list on BH and it does not list ZV-1 or ZV-1 II. You've been able to use it with the mark 2? I am about to get that camera and was thinking of ordering this. Thanks for the great content as usual.
it have a big problem with hiss, its obvious the mic work with IA that mess uo something wth the frequecies. Is not magic, is impossible that something that small work so well isolating the background without touching freq.
I really want to love this mic. But in so many of the video reviews, including this one, it just sounds terrible. Especially with noise cancellation turned on. The presenters voice sounds like it was produced by a bee rattling around in again can. I have the B1M and the B10 and they both sound vastly better. I’d really love to have the 8 pickup patterns that this mic allows. Talk about versatility. Maybe Sony can release a firmware update to fix the sound quality. But right now it sounds awful, so I’ll have to give it a skip. Versatility in producing terrible sound is worthless to me.
I am deciding between the B1m, B10, and the M1 for simply home videos on m a6700. My child is nearly 11 months old and use cases are inside our house and outside. I like the off-axis south rejection (annoying A/C in house, noisy playground, etc.) The M1 is small which is attractive, but the B1M seems to have the best range, which might be nice if I'm filming with a 55mm (or longer) and my son is 10 feet away or so. Which microphone would be the best? Since I don't blog and do not need all the settings (just sound isolation and range), I would love some input. I know the M1 has a better (quieter mount) but I don't plan to be moving too much while filming so this shouldn't be an issue. It's hard to make a selection as it's nearly impossible to test them out prior to buying. Thanks.
The Sony mic sounds really bad sadly, especially for the price. Might be more practical but sounds worse than the inbuilt mic in certain situations. I can clearly hear some kind of phase cancellation, maybe due to the usage of 4 mic capsules. All in all it sounded the most unnatural out of the bunch.

100% sounds like no body garbage. Noice canceling underwater. Terrible
I would love a comparison to other Sony shotgun mics, such as the other ecm microphones

I think this is the only mic on the market with an 8 directivity mode-dial

No problem man. It’ll feel good to get back into it👍🏻
Nice down to earth review. What do you think is the maximum practical distance between mic and subject?
Awesome video! You are totally in Gatlinburg!!! Amazing summer vacation place!!!!

Thanks Tone. I’m happy you like it. I do as well
I do a lot of filming in my lawn, its beside a busy road. Do you think this would be suitable to use if we point it away from the road noise?
No low frequencies at all. Did you used LC filter? Very flat sound.

I actually don’t know about that. Sorry
No. Definitely no.
I thought the USB C port was just for firmware updates.

I hear ya. I’m thinking maybe go used? Any external mic will be better than the internal mic

How to connect in android mobile and other brand cameras

Good to know! I have B1M and the handling was a serious problem there too. Can't believe they didn't fix it
What's the story behind the first few seconds of your very helpfull video?
the intro is a very good piece of music, can you tell me who the artist is and what it's called, thank you!
Sir sony 6700 vs fx30 please 🙏🙏🙏🙏
You make very valuable and detailed videos, great!
Joe, thank you so much for the work you are doing!
Would the stereo recordings from this clip less than the Sony ECM-B1M? I found the ECM-B1M could not handle loud K-pop Concerts without distortion. Thanks
I find it sounds kind of "mecanical". Is it because the noise cancellation was activated?
The sound from this mic somehow sounds very digitalized. Would be nice to have a video comparing this mic to other Sony shotgun mics.
It will be priced the same as ECM-B1M. That puzzles me. What is your comment on this?
I think the b1m sounds better
Not sure
Dope concept and innovation. The sound though is pretty average. Thanks for the detailed review.
Thanks for watching and feedback!
does it work with the sony zv-1
Yes it does

bonjour la traduction en français c'est pour quand ??? Tout le monde ne parle pas forcément en anglais !
Is it 24 bit or 16 bit audio? There’s no info about this online
If you find out please update about it. Im considering it over the XLR Handle of the FX30
@@manuelsoto8028 nobody answered ... nobody shows ... nobody cares ... this is a consumer product, not a pro product.
I’m not sure it didn’t say
@@thefilmalliance you have to check it after importing footage into your editing suite, it is under "metadata" & "clip details".
B1M and B10 are both just 16bit. Not sure about this new M1 Sony doesn't release this data on their spec sheet but I doubt it will be 24.

I thought it sounded good, even in crowded environments
Is it only me? But the M1 doesn't have so good audio. Too "robotic". Similar in other reviews.

I love the tech in this microphone, but it just doesn't sound very good.
The Rode Video Mic Pro sounds much more better than the M1.
When Sony sends out its products for review, the reviews do not sound objective.
That sounded awful wow 😢
