      Chasing a Plate - Thomas & Sheena I’m not fond of offal because of its texture and mineral taste. However, anything fried is always good. Give me a plate, please.

    when I was seven or 8 years old me and my cousins used to go snail picking after it rained, wed bring it to my mother and shed prepare it just like in this video. we used to have a feast. I miss sicily dearly. I still hold a grudge to my parents bringing me to the states.

    Sicily was definitely our favorite area in Italy. I lived in Parma as an au pair and the people were nice but not as warm and friendly as the people in Sicily. The northern Italians actually told me that Sicily was quite dangerous and unsafe. We visited Trapani and fell in love!

    *_frittola_* - I like chicken cartilage deep fried or grilled so the frittola (I know it's not chicken parts) was not intimidating when I visited. The basket is reminiscent of tacos de canasta in Mexico City visually as well as the tradition I feel. Peel back the blanket, reach in, pull out some deliciousness! 👍
    *_ink pasta_* - I've had it only once (not Palermo) but it was not prepared that well. So disappointed because I know it's super popular and quite tasty AND I love squid and cuttlefish in all forms. 😬😂
    *_Awesome start to Sicily!_*

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Oh darn it about the ink pasta Tosh! That sounds like good enough reason to return to Italy- to search for a good one 😂 The frittola was brilliant- neither of us could get enough of it. The locals were VERY bemused by us ordering it and quite a few of them watched us intently as we ate it to see if we liked it 😆 we couldn’t get enough of it! You sure know how to sell a dish "plate of guts and scraps" mmmm 🤣. The Octopus, rolled sardines and snails wow you couldn't get them any fresher than that market and how perfectly presented in simplistic forms. The sardines reminded me of Rollmops only not pickled. No need to share your plate of cuttlefish pasta, l will scoff along with Thomas's swordfish and eggplant. The tomatoes in Summer time Europe are just so juicy and sweet. Nothing like those vine ripened babies no matter how hard we try here. Cakes all the Cakes!!!😍

      Hahahah bring on the guts and scraps for brekki! I loved that market so much- so much life and colour. That pasta restaurant was a favourite too. As someone of Northern Italian heritage, I'm surprised of the popularity of offal in Sicilian food. You guys are brave, I could never eat intestines, that 'offal lucky dip mix' for breakfast haha.
    You need to come to Tuscany and Bologna. Also the alps for great cheeses, dried meats, mushrooms, truffles (Bologna has the best food in my opinion).

    I just love how 'rough' and intense the food is in this video. Reminds me of food from Asia where everything is served as-is and it's either you can stand it or you can't. So much flavour and an 'acquired taste' you can take in from the whole animal/seafood. It is so rare nowadays to have things fried in lard. Thank you for showing us this side of Italy. I love how you guys appreciate food for what it is.

      Great food culture in Sicily isn’t there. Based on your comment I think you’re going to enjoy our next video also (it’s a street food video). We really enjoyed our time filming there and loved the style of food. It was a really neat scene. The frittola was such a great start to the day. If there hadn’t been a day or filming ahead we would have had seconds for sure. I’m glad our passion for the food is coming across. It can be hard to show that on video. Yum yum yummilicious!!! The answer to your question is YES, I'd try interesting food at least once just to know how they taste like 😋😋. Sheena, if the squid ink accidently flies onto your blouse, we would not have notice it cuz it will match the black spots on ur blouse! The pastries look to die for, am sure they taste great! And lastly, Thomas look so cute in the blooper, haha! Tq guys for a wonderful vid, cant wait for the next one! 💚💜
