For my opinion, it’s so easy to make and upgrade to them to add external antennas, just drill 2 holes in the front sides and put antenna connectors which you can fix the front then, instead of those to small crappy ones. I honestly don’t understand why Walksnail haven’t done that, probably for much cleaner design, but this thing is upgradable.
@@prakulsahukar16 Just because there are UFL connections on the board doesn't make it easy... Were you watching a different video to me or something? 🤔
As for comparing this board to old Avatar goggles it looks for me that it could be possible to enable head tracking there as well. I am assuming that head tracker unit is connected to UART5 on main board, and the same port is free in Avatar goggles. Only issue is if firmware would support that.
So there's huge possibilities for upgrading the antenna socket custom better outer shell since it's had ipex style antenna socket and working fully detachable system
30:39 that looks kinda flat to me. Wasnt the normal Power Input round, like the thing legt to it? This thing in the right looks like USB-C or Mini HDMI. If it is USB-C, would it work with 5v?
So I know the omni antennas are linear, but are the patches as well? Would it get you better range/reception to use linear antennas on your quad with these goggles rather than LHCP or RHCP?
Pretty interesting to me that this goggle is mirrored similar to the Hawk Eye display in the VisorX that I use for analog ride alongs and loaners. That setup is better than the price would suggest. It would seem to me that if you want head tracking with GogglesX , that you might be better off buying from the OEM and using the external head tracking unit. Especially if you want to use an antenna tracking ground station.
can i connect analog video to 3.5mm jack? i know that it is headtracker, but on the pcb 3.5mm jack is named - cvbs and google says that cvbs is analog video
The most perfemormance increase would be the two small dipole whip antennas. Switching those out for some high quality omni's would give you much better quality relatively close by. Upgrading the patches would give you better long-distance range. I guess it wouldn't really be that hard ti reroute the antennas, but if you really want upgradeability, this probably isn't the best set imo.
@@t43rizfpv I personally think the TrueRC Singularity is better, having tried both. The difference isn't huge, but it's there. The Luminier AXII has comparable performance to the Singularity as well. Either way, they are all a massive improvement over a cheap dipole antenna and you WILL notice that. With all that said, the lollipops are effectively half the price of the Singularity, so it's up to you if you'd rather splurge a little for "ultimate performance" or save some money and still walk away with a really big improvement.
Excellent! I was really hoping to see a teardown video. Totally possible to upgrade those linear antennas as I suspected. What I don't see (and was really hoping to) is an obvious way to inject an external signal to hook up an analog receiver 🤔
@MadRC Can I ask for your help to know where to look? My transmitter, a Jumper T14, consumes RTC batteries at a rate of one every month and a half. What could be wrong? I've had the transmitter for three months and I've already changed 2 batteries and I'm on the third.
@@MadRC Yeah, what a shame. Looks like I'll have to choose between analog and digital, as the Googles X are madly (no pun intended) expensive and I don't want to carry 2 box googles everywhere.
Hay Ian, quick question. I'm not sure how the head tracking tech works. But can head tracking work with DJI Goggles 3 and a DJI O3 air unit? Meaning; can I just mount n O3 unit on e.g. a (C-20T gimbal) and I will get head tracking ability with Goggles 3....Or do I need a dedicated head tracking unit to attach to the (C-20T gimbal) ?
This design is horribly anti-consumer/anti-repair and there's no HDMI or analogue input options. For something billed as a beginner goggle at least give us HDMI input so we can use these goggles in a simulator. Massively unimpressed... We don't need another DJI, anti-consumer, locked ecosystem style company. Thanks for the teardown!
There's nothing wrong with this product not having other inputs. The product they do sell that has HDMI input is their Goggles X. It's not anti consumer to make a product that doesn't have all the features you wish it had. It's the cheapest entry into digital FPV ever. They're not DJI, that's for sure.
@@drelephanttube No it isn't, there are HDZero box goggles that are cheaper (Transporter 2 HD). The anti-consumer action is design that can't be serviced easily and you can't even upgrade antennas without taking the goggles apart, not the lack of features. Keep fan boying, though :-)
@@siniestrorave Horrible is any product I can't repair without breaking it, that includes these goggs. Just because they're better by degrees than DJI doesn't mean we shouldn't expect better!

If you're likely to smash clips etc during disassembly then they're not upgradeable IMO. Horribly anti-consumer design choices with this goggle.

Yep, this is exactly the same mainboard as in the Fatshark Recon HD.
Mine has the same AVATAR MINI RX V1.1 marking on the silkscreen.
Thanks a bunch for the teardown and all the info, Ian! 😊

I just updated my fatshark recon hd firmware and the firmware in called "mini" it sort of confirms what you said about it being the same board
Thank you very much for the nice review

Sadly not possible. On the goggles X there is a HDMI input switch that takes the cvbs input from another ic. This is not even on this goggle.
