    If you leave a pup or two on the mother plant, when those pups start to get bigger, should you clip down the mother (old) leaves/plant to encourage growth only on the pups? I live in Ohio so mine are in pots. I take them into a greenhouse in the winter but the mother plant is so huge, I wonder if those are leaves are taking up too much energy? Would also be nice to keep the size under control. I do get pineapples every year from them!

      I typically Replant one Papandreou letthe other grow other mother plant because the roots are established. I also don't really clip and leaves from any of the plants besides the dead ones from pups when I'm planting. Clipping the dead pup leaves isn't even necessary though.

    Can you start breaking off pups as soon as they get some size. to start a new plants? Has taken 3 years to get fruit on the 3 we have. Do not remember if they had pups the second year are not. You can take 1 top, cut it into four pieces. to make 4 plants.

      You can actually split to 6, 8 if you properly do it right.

    Okay so this is with slips and pups, but what about if you are using a crown? Specifically a crown that has been divided into 4? Is it the same result as with slips and pups?

      Don't put the crown in the water it will rot 9 time out of 10. Straight in the soil.

      I originally started 2 crowns from my store bought Dole pineapples in a small jar of rain water, but first let the base dry out for a week to scar the cut area. Also left out in the Florida sun while rooting for a few months. Under these conditions the crowns had a lot of root growth, packing the jar full of roots . Then I planted them in 7 gallon growing bags with sand from the yard, potting soil, and coffee grounds. Took about 2 years for medium size fully ripened fruit. Took those crowns, dried them for a week, rooted them (root nubs) in rain water for just a week and put them directly in pots of sand/potting soil. Gonna try to root bound them in small containers before transplanting to larger growing bags and experimenting with other soil additives like worm castings and peatmoss.

    How do you force them to fruit?

    • @ren3171
      @ren3171 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      First, make sure the plant is ready, it should be healthy and large with at least 30 leaves. Also do not fertilize with high nitrogen before attempting to force because the nitrogen can disrupt the process. Put some overripe bananas in a jar. Fill with water until the bananas are completely covered. Close the jar tightly, make sure the seal is airtight. If the seal is not airtight you can put some teflon tape around the top of the jar before screwing the lid on. Let it sit for 12 hours. In the early morning or in the evening (when the pores of the plant are open) stand ready by the pineapple plant and open the jar, immediately pouring the water into the center of the pineapple plant from above. Repeat this process 2 or 3 more times using the same bananas. The gas released from the overripe bananas into the water will cause the pineapple plant to flower. You can slightly bruise or damage the bananas to help the release of the gas into the water.

      If you want pineapples that will ripen all the way and be sweet without rotting try the cuttings from the Dole gold brand and the whole pineapple will ripen without the rot other store bought pineapples get. The pictures he has of the pineapples that are all gold colored and completely ripened look like the Dole gold brand. I have the ornamental pineapple like you showed put the pineapples and up more of a purple colored and my red ornamental pineapples come from larger plants with leaves like hacksaws which a lot of people stay away from because they will cut you up while some people plant them in places needed for security

      I have some Pinkglow Pineapples but they cut the crown off. I'm trying to figure out if I can still plant the reminder of the crown. They left about .75" of he crown, no leaves so idk. I'll try but I did get some seeds so there's always that
