    I live in Alberta, Canada. I started growing a pineapple in my sunroom, off my kitchen 3 years ago. In March of this year, my plant started to put out a flower. 6 month later, I ate a slice of very tasty pineapple fruit. I had a very sunny window but it wasn’t overly hot in the sunroom.

    Scored about 300 white pineapple slips from a guy up in Kohala last year. Sold some, gave a bunch away, and have 70 of them around the hale. Two have flowered already, even with the slower growing here in Glenwood...

    Going to give it a try from a cold climate. thanks for the great video. I have never tried before so this may sound stupid but why was it not better just to leave the slip on the plant thats already rooted? Does it grow slower than waiting for the slip to sprout its own roots?

I just digg 20 / 20cm (depth/wide ) holes , refill them with manure and soil( equal) 50/50 ,plant my pineapple crowns/ Suckers slightly into the holes ➖ not Deep , No fertilizer just Organically ,+ Do thorough weeding and that's ALL.

    So…a slip is a regrowth of the plant after it’s harvested. Pups, suckers, cakies grow on the bottom of the plant. All replantable. Slips regrow fruit the fastest. I twist the plant off bush and twist of the crown from the fruit. An excellent video, thanks.

      I used to make cages for my crops to keep animals like that away. Along with some traps.
      Can make a 4x4 base frame. Arch a cattle panel over that and attach to 4x4 and cover in poultry wire. Should keep them out.
      Good luck!

    I am growing on on the road full time and I recently hit a bunch of bumps with my Pina! 😢 First she started to get some yellow leaves due to I think overwatering. I think I fixed that and I repotted her to help let her grow and now I’m seeing some white spots on her I’m trying to figure out what they are. They are smooth spots and after looking around I think it might be fertilizer burn. Any suggestions on how to fix this? I think I’m gonna get new dirt and just put her in there and remove the fertilized soil (it wasn’t liquid like I saw you suggested in another video).

    • @HomesteadinHawaii
      @HomesteadinHawaii  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It’s hard to say without a picture and your location. Keep the plant warm, plenty of sun, plants doesn’t need too much fertilizer, even the liquid kind. Maybe only 1x per month, otherwise just plain water. Maybe let the soil dry between watering?

    Wonderful video. I live in NC and bought 2 pineapples with tops to try this! Question if you don't mind. I may bring this inside during cold winter, when risk of freezing temps here, or can I just cover the plants outside with a frost blanket? Wondering if you know. If I bring in inside to sunlit door during the winter, do I need to provide supplemental growing light and for how many hours per day does this plant need light to grow. Thanks big thumbs up on video! We only have a very few nights here where temps fall into the 20's, most days in the winter our temp is above freezing and very rarely snow here in coastal SE plain of NC.
