Using Apples to Force a Pineapple Plant to Fruit

  • My pineapple plant is now two years old growing in zone 5b
    I am going to attempt to induce flowering and produce a fruit on my pineapple plant
    .
    Research has shown that the larger the pineapple plant is when it flowers, the larger the potential fruit produced. Therefore, my pineapple plant is large and has reached the 30-leaf stage.
    I’m excited to try this method and see if I can achieve the results to produce a pineapple fruit.

    I just came across your channel and I happen to have five pineapples that are very large and they had not made fruit yet until this year, but only one of them did it. I also got a parrot this year as a pet and I'm just now realizing that one plant flowers! He dropped a piece of apple in it!!!🤯 I never would have figured that out thank you. From Tennessee I'm not exactly sure what zone I'm in though.

    I tried this method (3 pineapples) and the leaves ended up turning yellow within 1 week, possibly from suffocation. I took the bags off and fortunately I was able to nurse them back to health, which took about 3 weeks. Luckily, pineapple plants are very hardy. After 3 months, no flowering.

      You didn't put holes in the plastic. The heat from the plant needs to escape. Make sure to put holes in the bag next time.

    My pineapple plant is huge, and its 7 years old, but its never grown a stem or another pineapple. I'm going to try this. I keep it indoors in spring, fall and winter, and out on my deck in summer. I live on Vancouver Island, so to grow a pineapple would be so cool !! :)

    Sealed bag. WHOLE APPLES. You can open bag IF needed IF pineapple needs air, but ONLY briefly. More apples the better. WHOLE APPLES. Cut apples rot. Whole apples ripen.

    My pineapple plant is over seven years old I've tried this and every other way to induce flowering! Nothing happens... But since I started keeping the soil ec between 1400 and 1800, she's exploding with growth and is receiving a healthy amount of phosphorus... Looks like I'll finally have a fruit this year! (I'll still use ethylene as well to increase the chances of flowering though).

      Still waiting. Pineapples grown outside in the "optimum climate" can set their first fruit in as little as 16 months. Less optimum climate (zone 5b) or indoor plants may take 16 to 48 months, or longer.

      Yes. Pineapple plants do not tolerate freezing or cold temperatures below 60 degrees. Optimum temperatures for pineapple growth range between 68°F and 86°F

    • @RussellBooth1977
      @RussellBooth1977 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It does matter within reason because it gets down to about 33°F (2°C) briefly overnight during winter in my Australian location just North of Sydney where I'm on a 10b-11a climate (humid subtropical ,Cfa) but at summer time & even in late spring it got up to 108°F (42°C) on Saturday and Sunday,my pineapple 🍍 plants love it.
      I can leave them outside during winter time in my location & they will still grow well :-
      drive.google.com/file/d/1ILNSZqgfTqomSdZ9FeV5d0knGnRozj47/view?usp=drivesdk
      They are commercially grown North of Brisbane in Queensland where there's an 11b climate, their climate is a bit more tropical where they have a higher average annual temperature 🌡️ than we do but they don't have sporadically blistering hot 40°C+ days like we do.
      If you look closely at the plant on the right it's conjoined ,I was up at past 12 AM on Sunday morning doing some gardening when the weather was cooler including watering the plants so I unpotted that one & split in half with a spade & got 2 plants out of it !

      @helenh20mo ปีที่แล้ว

      I am in sub tropical queensland and yes climate does make a difference . Where I am , inland .. we don't get frosts or chilling winds .. our weather is warm and rarely goes below 10° cel. Even though we are sub tropical often our pineapples will need assistance to fruit . Banana skins or some blood and bone will encourage fruiting. Some plants refuse to give up fruit.
