For anyone who doesn't know: take a whole pineapple with you to the beach or out on the boat. It helps to trigger the pineapple to fruit. I have 25+ pineapple plants growing around my garden. They truly are like nothing you will ever eat from the store. My great grandparents grew pines on Elliotts Key in the 1880’s. I grew up growing pines in Coconut Grove in the fifties. You can twist off the fruit from the plant and also the head from the fruit. I live in Gainesville now and grow them in cloth pots so I can move them out of seasonal torrential rain and seasonal freezes. I also add cut up banana peels, coffee grounds and egg shells for jacking up the soil. If you leave the fruit on the plant after it gets yellow and let it turn slightly bronze on the bottle, the sugar turns to alcohol. Yummy taste. You didn’t mention pulling the lower leaves off the heads to expose the baby roots and putting in water for a week. Also, the core has the most nutrition.I use them in my nutritional shakes. I grew my first pineapple! It took 2 years!! the other one has not developed any pineapples. Now i know why! thanks so much for your channel. I will buy a couple of pineapples and try your way. your pineapples are MASSIVE!!!!
Twisting the top of the pineapple is the preferred way to remove its top instead of cutting it off. Pineapples are one of the few fruits that do not continue to ripen (develop sweetness) after it is picked, so leaving it to completely turn yellow on the plant is ideal in terms of its sugar content.
Yes, they do ripen after being cut from the plant. Leave them on your counter on its side. Turn it 1/4 turn every day for about 4 or 5 days. It will turn yellow on your counter. This is what I do every time I buy a store bought pineapple.
Lets not forget pineapples are the highest in enzymatic activity, digestively speaking, and those enzymes are best expressed in under ripe green fruit. If you're serious, wash an under ripe green pineapple, blend or juice with the skin on (zero waste), and serve over a block of ice, mixed fifty /fifty with freshly pressed wheatgrass juice. This will #1 knock your socks off and #2 cure melanoma and basocelluar cancers. I am living proof.

Today was about the 20th time I've watched this video in particular. I love pineapple and want to grow mine like yours. I now have 8 growing. I still have about 6mo before I should have my first flower. Can't wait. Thank you.
Darcizzle, I didn't know you are such a gardening buff - Amazing! ❤ In the filleting videos I saw those gorgeous ginormous Croton bushes : how do you make them grow like that ? Or is it just the Florida climate (here in NW-Europe they are usually kept as indoor plants bc of the cold winters)
I really enjoyed this video and learned several tips. I currently have about 25 plants in my yard and had 14 fruits last season. However, they were smaller than usual. Before they flowered, I had trimmed back some of the longest lower leaves. Could that have been the reason or did I just not feed them enough?
I always trim the lower leaves. The fruit size is totally based on the size of the plant. The bigger the plant you can grow= the bigger the fruit. You must feed them regularly.
Love this video I have acreage in Queensland Australia we are just starting to plant our pines... i think I will do containers like you have .. started mine off in a shade house but thinking they will be out in the full sun from now on.. greetings from Australia.. 🐨🐨

Great video! I'm in central Texas, so out of the best zone for pineapple, but I'm up to 11 plants now, all from one original supermarket pineapple (I've also given away at least 3-4 plants). Mine go into a greenhouse over the winter to protect them from our occasional freezes. They like that much better than when I used to bring them into the house (I could do that with 3 plants, but not with 10 or 11). I've got 4 in the process of blooming right now, so I'm looking forward to some fresh pineapple this year!
I have been successfully growing pineapple plants in pots in Germany since around 1990, overwintering in a tropical warm house or in a residential building.
Nice pineapples Darcizzle! We do similar here in Orlando and also make Tepache (Mildly alcoholic pineapple drink) with the skinned pineapple cuttings and brown sugar. Allow to ferment a few days there are instructional videos.
I bought 3 pineapples from the store a few weeks ago, put them in a paper bag with a banana to ripen, and even though they are golden yellow, they have no taste and no flavor at all. I kept the 3 tops and am trying to root them, now, but I'm thinking I might get another couple and just take the tops off immediately and start growing them. Awesome video and I love your energy for growing food!
Like the Video! 👍 I did learn a few things about the plant itself. Only once, did I let a plant continue to grow, after harvest. It did grow another pineapple off the side. I didn't know about twisting that sucker off. I will have to try that method. I have been growing pineapples for a lot of years in Wyoming. Keep 3 or 4 growing at all times. Would have more if I had more windows. Mine never get very big though. But are superb tasting over store bought. I don't quite have as long of direct sunlight. Lot of the time, not good temp's. I did try grow lights. But it didn't really seem to help. I just twist my crown off by hand. Then pull off several rows of leaves and dry. Never had a plant fail to grow. I never did repot my plants. Just using about a 2-1/2 gallon pot. What fits in the window. I will have to try your pot mix ratio. Wasn't much info. when I started growing, years back. I will also have to try and repot to a bigger pot next time around. Have a golf ball sized cutie rising now. Thanks for the video!
thank you so much for all the Info. I live in Bradenton and have 13 plants that produced small fruit but i think the squirrels got to them. Now they do not flower, probably because they don't get enough sun. I am thinking of relocating them from where they are in the ground to 10 gallon pots. I will also change the soil. Can I save these plants ? I have followed you and Puddin for years but haven't seen your gardening tips until today. Love you guys 🤟

That was a great video. I showed it to my wife. She wants to grow pineapple. We live in San Antonio. So heat sun and dry is an everyday thing lol. Keep on growing ok and that fishing thing lol
She is so dad-blame cute! Just adorable!!
The one of the BEST pineapple tutorials I've seen on youtube. New sub, thank you Ma'am for sharing!
I'm a new subbie from California 👋🏾
Glad I seen your video bcuz I was just about to put my pineapple 🍍 stim in a wet cup of water 💧
Thank you for letting me know that I need to allow it to dry out for a week.
I'm looking forward to planting something, anything and it bearing fruit😂
Freshly picked pineapple really is the best. Grew mine in 2.5 yrs indoors zone 9b, bright yellow and delicous
Moved to coastal southwest Florida from Colorado two years ago. Cut the tops off of eight pineapples and planted them. Recently, started harvesting ripe fruit. No comparison in taste between homegrown and store bought. Homegrown is like pineapple sweet honey taste.
Great video and coverage of important aspects. I live in tropics iin Africa, and wanting to become self sufficient so this should really help. Not sure what locally available material I can use as blooming compound but gonna give this a try
I’ve only lived in Florida for thirty years but I twist the top off and simply stick it about two inches in the soil. Saves a little time and work
Please make more garden videos!! I love this!! Thank you very much! I subscribed ❤
I now live in Thailand but will follow your video to grow in containers as my land is salty. Our mangoes, coconut trees and melons are doing fine and we have just planted our sweet corn.
80's are my fav. Especially hair bands😊
Oh my goodness! this was wonderfully visual and informative. thank you!
YAY! Thank you so much! Pensacola here! Just watched your fun and informative video. I'm going to cut a pineapple today!
I found this video very informative and encouraging...Pineapples are one of my favourite natural foods...
love to see more of your gardening videos please? thank you.
Will do!
That's great I've been growing my p heads and one few slips and so excited to see them bring some fruit this summer.
Thank you for a very informative video on growing pineapple at home.
NICE!! A lifetime of tepeche. 🥳
Thank you for adding the soil prep to the video. ❤
😮😮😮😮 please share all your knowledge 👊🏻
I’m soooo ecstatic to see this … I’m starting 4 from the grocery store… I told my wife if the world gets rough I’m sooo going to have pineapples in NC 🤣🤣👊🏻🤙🏼
Today was about the 20th time I've watched this video in particular. I love pineapple and want to grow mine like yours. I now have 8 growing. I still have about 6mo before I should have my first flower. Can't wait. Thank you.
I'm so glad I saw this because I was about to put one in the ground
Darcizzle, I didn't know you are such a gardening buff - Amazing! ❤
In the filleting videos I saw those gorgeous ginormous Croton bushes : how do you make them grow like that ?
Awesome video guys , I was given a slip , it has roots but looks sickly so I’m going to put it in a soil mixture you recommended, it’s currently in compost and very wet and the roots can’t breath I don’t think or it’s to compact , I’ll try change it and fertilise see how it goes , thanks for a great video.🙏
Where in Tx are you?
@@kathy4015 Austin area.
@@michaelshannon687 me too!👍
Oh this is great to hear! I am in Houston, Texas and just began my first ever pineapple plant propagation today!
You two seem like you're living a dream life.
Thanks for this video!! Love growing pineapples! Do you also do nutrition and fitness content??
Thanks Dar ! Tried to grow one, cut off a chunk below yours, didn't dry out, bad results! Now I know !
I love pineapple 🍍 and I grow them and more in sunny Florida!!
Thanks pretty lady!! ❤
One of the best fruits. We had so many pineapple plantations here in Martin County, Florida. Jensen Beach Pineapple Festival
Awesome video thank you! I live in zone 5 and I planted a crown last year. It’s not a lot bigger than when I put it in the pot,. I’ll transplant it now to a bigger pot and this winter it will have the south facing windows ☀️😎🌱🐝✌️😜💕🫶
Oh Ya! You holding on to those Iguanas makes me want to be your friend more cuz there’s no way I’d be doing that! You brave girl! Lol 😂
Im from TEXAS I tried pineapples from Florida,California, mexico and most countries in Latin amaerica. I tell you what pineapples from hawwai is so delicious the best pineapple in world.
Use all the peel and trimmings to make pineapple vinegar. Taste great on fish and lizard.
Thank you for the great info on growing pineapples 🍍 i have grown other exotic fruits but haven’t grown them yet, just got one! Thanks for the great tips 🙌🌴
Didn’t expect an agriculture video on this channel. Very cool and interesting. I think it’d be cool to add gardening/agriculture in your lineup. 🍍
At 8:27 are those iguanas alive???? To me, they look like they were killed with a baseball bat
They don't look to be alive. 😢
Nooo way!!!!! Cizzle is gardening!!! ♥♥♥♥♥♥
Fruit is one of the lowest glycemic foods for diabetics. I would avoid processed sugars and animal protein that blocks insulin receptors, but not fiber rich and hydrating fruits! ✌️🍍
Thanks, my friend. God bless you 2023 10 11
Great video! I live in CT but I actually want to try growing a pineapple, love them!
Great garden info!
Mine took 1 1/2 yrs to produce. Hurricane Ian and Nicole slowed down the growth for me in central Florida 🌴
Great job Darcizzle! I was very impressed with your delivery and I don't want anyone to think I'm kissing butt- but hear me out- Do you remember Steve Irwin? Of course you do, but it's his wife Terri Raines that I thought I was hearing from the other room. I was happy to see that it was you! What's funny is, is that I think you and Terri have the same cadence with your delivery. Both you and Terri have a beautiful way of, I don't want to say 'teaching' because I'm a little bummed on the word these days, let's say that you take an artists approach in your conveyance of taking an idea and elevating it to action! Simply put, you relayed to us your knowledge about how to grow pineapples in a way that it stuck in my mind in a way that very few teachers ever accomplished. Bravo -I'd watch another for sure
This was so interesting! This was my first summer gardening and loving it!
I planted heirloom tomatoes ! I can't wait to enjoy them.
I wonder if we can grow our pineapple i Pgh,, Pa I am going to try!!! Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. I just found out about coffee grounds a few days ago. My neighbor told me about them and ants hates coffee grounds but earthworms love it.
I picked enough pineapples every summer of high school to last me a lifetime, but for some reason I want to plant one in my backyard:) Shaka from Hawaii!
Great video! I watch all the time for your fishing videos but this was so good. I live in S.W. Pennsylvania but I Keep a small garden of tomatoes, peppers and onions just to make salsa but I'm going to try a pineapple now. I love fresh pineapple and I think it will taste great in salsa. Thank You!
This is great home made planting of pineapple
Yes, definately keep the gardening channel open. Great teaching pace - not too slow or too fast.
Definitely lol
At 8:27 are those iguanas alive???? To me, they look like they were killed with a baseball bat
Im just eating the last of my very yellow pineapple 🍍 it's the second one off the same plant. I guess I was lucky because I had no idea what I was doing last year.
Now I know more and will pull the succulent off to start new plants. Im so happy 😅
This video I really enjoyed. I’m stuck in Wisconsin so I can’t salt fish like I did in Washington state and this was something different that I really enjoyed. You should do a garden walkthrough and then do a segment on each part. Love the content you and Brian put out. Keep it up and tight lines.

@@CardoMaximvs They are extremely invasive in FL, it legally is open season on iguanas. That being said, they were probably brought down with a high-power pellet gun. Watch the Mike Rowe Dirty Jobs episode where he helps "collect" them from a homeowners property.
@@rodgillette8066 Rod, in FL you are an invasive species, a poor animal just struggling to survive where it has always lived
I sent my sister in Madison, Wis. a pineapple from Florida and told her how to plant the top. She placed it in her sunporch and she was really excited that it actually grew and was very sweet.
