This is a tribute to the students who died in the Sewol Ferry sinking. This song has never left the charts since it's debut. There are a couple of excellent explanation videos for this. I'll let others give you their links.
RM wrote this song while waiting for Yoongi at the park. BTS has never said it was a song for Sewol. Although I can see how ARMY said that
@@6468May
They hinted massively at it.
@6468May The MV not lyrics necessarily
Italian Army's "what you still don't know about BTS spring day" is - I think - the best.
@6468May the song itself was not written for Sewol, but the MV itself is a different story. I think this is where people get confused. Both answers can be correct because there are 2 different forms of media here.
Italian Army's "what you still don't know about BTS's Spring Day" is the best explanation.
For me the song holds all the stages of grief with acceptance and a new day following it.
For Koreans the song is the emobodyment of the Korean emotion "Han" - so the song attracted also an older demographic.
In their tiny desk version RM speaks about while it is technically summer because of Covid (2020) it feels like winter but "spring will come".
I find the choreography very interesting and it is proof also to the connection of the Sewol desaster.
In Korea there are few records the song hasn't broken and it is now over 7 years on the charts - the longest charting song ever. It's currently on 84 on Melon.
Thank you for reacting to the Queen!
Yes - this. To me Italian Army's explanation is the best (though most wrenching) due to the actual news footage and the depth of the explanation for some things like "You Never Walk Alone" etc.
The snow, isn't fake. It's real. It was winter when they shoot this. You can watch the behind the scene. The boys were freezing. Please react to the explanation of Spring Day from an Italian ARMY. Spring Day is such a beautiful and meaningful song not only for ARMY but the whole of South Korea. It's about the SEWOL FERRY TRAGEDY. Every, scene in this music video has meaning. You will be blown away.
Just to be clear, it is obvious the snow on the ground is real. No doubt. We were merely pointing out that the snow FALLING from the sky (at the beginning of the video) may have been added in post-production since the frame rate looks different. Not a knock at all... we like it! It adds more to the shot and tone of the video/song.
The shoes hanging on the tree represents the loved ones who passed away. It's a way to honor them.
Explanation by Italian Army will break your heart. Every singly image means something. Namjoon is a genius.
There is so much to this song that you WILL NOT BE ABLE TO wrap your head around ….do not let time pass or you will not understand what this song means…sad yes and an understatement …please watch Italian Army….THIS really HAPPENED in 2014!
It’s a song about the grief of separation from family and friends and the loss of relationships.
RM began writing Spring Day while watching autumn leaves fall in a park in Seoul. He was thinking about the family and friends left behind in his home town when he moved to the capital to follow his musical dreams. Suga wrote from the same emotional place as his song ‘Dear My Friend’, a painful message to a friend lost to drugs and prison.
The music video is something else. It adds many references alluding to the national disaster and scandal of the sinking of the ferry Sewol, where more than 300 lost their lives, mostly school children.
Please give attribution if you copy and paste my previous answers.
BTS's 2017 song "Spring Day" was inspired by a number of things, including:
Dried leaves
RM, a member of BTS, was inspired by the dried leaves blowing in the wind while walking in Saetgang Eco Park in Yeouido in 2016. He wrote the main melody for the song during this time.
The Sewol ferry disaster
The song's music video and cover art reference the sinking of the Sewol ferry in April 2014. The ferry capsized while carrying twice the legal amount of cargo, and the crew lied about the ship's weight. 304 passengers died, mostly high school students.
The process of moving on
The song's lyrics include themes of love, loss, and yearning for the past. The song's message is that "Spring Day will never end" and that it can be a healing balm for those experiencing loss.
I believe this is what the different inspirations were for the song.
Thank you for your comment. People need to stop saying this song was officially written for the Sewol disaster. And Namjoon explained what the song was about never mentioning it was for the Sewol ferry. I’m also glad people can use this song for healing
See the Sewol Ferry disaster & the Italian ARMY explanation of the symbolism in the mv.
Yess please 💜🫶
At least you know that this song was not officially written for the Sewol Ferry.
Not song but MV yes, it was about Sewol tragedy@@6468May
This is a tribute to the young people drowned after following directions on the Sewol ferry in 2014 A national tragedy.
I also agree, watch an explanation video. Every scene has meaning. It is hard for me to hear this song without tears in my eyes. The loss of a relationship, through unexpected death, or friendship (relationship ends with no real explanation). A lot of the shots if not all go to the ferry sinking where young children were on a school trip. So watch an explanation video to get a deeper meaning. Thanks for reacting.
That snow is real. It was winter in South Korea when they filmed that scene.
the song is about loss the video is about a ferry tragedy. there is an explanation video
This could be where to start an explanation video. th-cam.com/video/Tye1ONFeKis/w-d-xo.htmlsi=cMBso8qkkAGukeEx
However, the Italian ARMY explanation video is more thorough and much longer.
You choose. 💜
While RM stated that He himself and the Members Couldn’t Come Right out and Say Spring Day was about Ferry Disaster (They Could of Gotten in a lot of Trouble if they Had ) RM did mention it was About Missing His Friends ( Remember there were a lot of idols at the Time that chose to not Be with us anymore that we’re friends of the Whole Group ) they Even went to the Service for That person!! The Truth is , Is that Spring Day Could Be About anything Really, a loss of a Friend or the Ferry Disaster !! The Song was Written to Comfort People, To let People Know Not to Give up , To Remember!! Let’s Not Argue Over What it was Written about But Appreciate it for what it is THE QUEEN!!
This song has never left the charts in Korea.
The song itself is about loss and missing those you love that are not with you....
The MV relates to the Sewol ferry disaster... you need to watch the explanation video by Italian ARMY
Who officially from BTS or Big Hit said the MV was for the Sewol?
@@6468May
They don't have to and they would never.
But it is obvious - Italian Army was very convincing and so is the choreography of this song.
Think about it:
The first thing you hear is not the train but a ship sound.
@6468May RM has said that while they are careful to talk about the tragedy they will not remain silent about injustice... and In the interview by Esquire, when asked directly if the song is about the sad event, Jin replied with, “It is about the sad event, as you said, but it is also about longing.”
BTS want us to take what we need from their music, so they always leave their MVs up for personal interpretation as RM has said he wants to get us thinking for ourselves, not to hand us answers... we will never get a full breakdown on any MV.... but those comments acknowledge the MVs major theme.
You also have to remember that they have to be careful taking sides in any kind of political discourse... especially during those times.... there was a Govt blacklist against people who spoke out.
A couple of things to notice that will help you with the deeper (deepest?) meaning. First, in the lyrics they reference Snowpiercer. The other is the motel's name, Omelas, a reference to Ursula LeGuin's short story, "They Walk Away From Omelas". There is a pdf version of "Omelas" online. There are important similarities between these two stories and the MV.
The song is about loss, any type of loss whether temporary and permanent.
The MV is targeted to the social and political events that were happening when the MV was released in February 2017, including arresting and blacklisting those who spoke against the government in favor of the Sewol ferry survivors and victims' families. (The ferry sank in 2014).
The MV is a massively significant piece of work and holds so much meaning packed into it's short length. Like others have said please react to What You Still Don't know about Spring Day MV by Italian Army. It's a longer length video guys and a hard watch but you'll gain so much from watching it.
You have to watch the Explanation Video by Italian Army. This is a very powerful song with a huge history. Its stayed on the chart continuously since its debut. Amazing.
There are also visual references to the film Snow Piercer directed by Bong Joon-Ho. Also “Omelas”refers to the short story “ The ones who walk away from Omelas” by Ursula Le Guin So much meaning in the song & mv. I get emotional every time I hear it. Definitely check out Italian ARMYs analysis
Sneakers hanging from above, either in trees, telephone lines etc, don't necessarily mean gangs. I'm from Brooklyn, New York. Im 64. In my day, that meant you got a brand new pair of kicks. And depending on what neighborhood you were from, it also meant paying respects to a departed one. I lived in Bensonhurst, Coney Island and Bedford- Stuyvesant. I've also lived in The Bronx, Manhattan and Queens. Upstate too, in Chenango County. And that's just in the US. They hang them everywhere. Sneakers hanging has always been a thing, but for different reasons.
There are so many things in this video that makes the song hit harder when you know the meaning of the scenes. This song still is on the charts in South Korea. Very emotional
Is about a tragedy that happened in korea about student in ferry sinking and they didn’t do anything to save them very sad
Oh no. Very sad. 😥
In Korea the shoes are to remember the lost. This was my gateway intro to BTS. The NPR video, when V sang you are my best friend, it was obvious the song had a deeper meaning. Then I watched the video and an explainer. I hadn't watched it in a while, so if had me in tears again! Love this song.
As I sayed, you should watch the explanation video (from Italian Army). Because the meaning of scenes are sad and amazing. And there is no one funny moment. Spring Day is the QUEEN of all BTS songs. And as producers you will impressed about the meaning of the sets. This mv is such an masterpiece of cinematic. Borahae 💜
Spring Day is one of their most meaningful, emotional songs. It has never left the Korean charts!
Glad you got to see it. Much much deeper than you think. * research a little, you won’t regret it. You may actually watch it again after you research a bit. Hasn’t left the SK music charts since its debut..
Sorry Sam, but in the world of BTS, October is celebrated as Jimtober to honor Jimin’s birthday on October 13. It’s celebrated in a big way: banners hung on lampposts and ads on bus stops in front of the HYBE building and his residence; buses wrapped in Jimin ads in both Busan, his hometown and Seoul, large LED billboards in Seoul, Tokyo and NY Times Square. All paid for by fans or companies that sponsor fan-based contests. Jimin Videos did a video on last year’s celebrations held around the world.
So happy to be back here! 💜 It's been long.
Check out “Bookish Theories” “Meaning of “Spring Day”. Also there are many documentaries of the “Sewal Disaster” if you feel you can watch them. I love this song, I usually have tears in my eyes when I hear it. It’s one of the top Army’s favorites 💜 I also recommend the movie “Snow piercer” great movie and a lot of meaningful attached to the “Spring Day” video and song.
Although I knew BTS from the beginning in 2013, "Spring Day" is the song and MV that made me ARMY. I loved it before I knew its connection to the Sewol Ferry incident and that just cemented it into position as a really important song for me. Since its release, I've lost some profoundly important people to death and circumstance and it's quite difficult to listen to Spring Day casually.
It sounds as if you are curious to know more about the story line--check out the explained video from "bulletproof vibes". There are other explained videos about Spring Day, too. Initially, RM was reticent about revealing whether or not Spring Day was connected with the tragedy. The song is about longing. The MV (whether intentional or synchronistical) makes many connections to the tragedy--as well to deep, personal loss of any kind.
You should watch the explanation video for this song. This is one of BTS’s best songs
Others have posted on the meaning of this song. The pile of clothing in a couple of shots had a huge meaning to me. Also the shoes hanging from the tree at the end. The meaning in S. Korea is much different from the meaning here in the U.S. This song I believe is a tribute to those lost in the ferry boat back in 2014. There are several metaphors throughout the video. Take care...
We assumed the meaning was different. TY! 🙏
I love that you are watching Spring Day - The Queen. Please watch the explanation video and the significance of this video. There are so many parts of this video that has meaning. Army never forgets. 💜🫰🏽🫶🏽
You should've added the video about what and why this video and music where made and what was going on in Korea... the song is sad but hopeful for a reason. There is a back story to every little detail in this mv.
Please watch an explanation of this song by Italian Army so you understand why this song means so much to so many, especially Koreans. It's an amazing song that's been on the charts for all these years, with good reason. Thanks for the reaction!
Omelas, the train station. Nothing good comes from an Omelas comparison. Stunning short story by Ursula K. Le Guin, The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas. A utopian society built on the continuous acts of cruelty, the torturous misery and death of an innocent child, and all the citizens know of it. When one dies, another child replaces them. Beautifully written, and it's unlikely you'll ever forget it if you read it. In the MV Omelas is compared to South Korea. Artists were blackballed for producing art about the Sewol deaths. This criticism and homage to the victims and survivors was done with symbolism and passed the censors.
Actually want you to see BTS Spring Day MV Explained Sewol Ferry/Snowpiercer. IT POINTS OUT A LOT OF THINGS UNSEEN IN THE MUSIC VIDEO. I think you as producers would appreciate the work put into the video. I DO SUGGEST YOU SET THE PLAYBACK SPEED at .75 so you don't have to pause the video because it goes quick. Once you watch this I think you will have a new found respect for BTS.
The song is about grief/losing someone, the video is a tribute to the Sewol Ferry Tragedy
Spring Day explained by Italian ARMY is a must-see! Please watch it!!
In Korea Spring Day is a sad anthem dedicated to the survivors of the Sewol disaster. Each scene has a meaning and there are very good videos explaining it.
Watch the explanation video of the making of Spring Day. Watch their live performance MAMA
You should watch the explanation video. This song will mean much more to you. And you will be in for an emotional roller coaster 🎢 💜💯
Not enough room to explain but like everyone else has suggested watching the video explanation and then rewatch the MV, I guarantee it will hit you even more powerfully. Take care.
ESTA CANCIÓN ES UN HOMENAJE A LOS ESTUDIANTES QUE MURIERON EN EL TREN DEL FERRY SEWOL ESTA CANCIÓN NUNCA ESTA FUERA DE LA LISTA SIEMPRE SE MANTIENE DEBERIAN REACCIONAR AL CHICO QUE DA EXPLICACIÓN CADA ALBÚM DE BTS ,TODO LO QUE BTS HACE TODO TIENE UN POR QUE UN SIGNIFICADO IMPORTANTE POR ESO SOY ARMY😊❤🎉
There is an explanation video by Bulletproof Vibes that will explain the theory that the video (not the song) is a tribute to the students that died in the Sewol Ferry accident.
I’m going to counter this with an argument against this explanation and for the one by Italian ARMY. The reason is that the Italian ARMY gives a much better understanding of the ferry incident…and that understanding is essential to really understanding this music video.
This is not officially for the Sewol Ferry. RM wrote this while he was waiting for Yoongi at the park. Somewhere along the way it became a Sewol song because of an Italian ARMY who did a video linking with the Sewol.
But it is not officially a a song for Sewol. Although it’s a great song for Sewol just not officially.
Where did you see someone saying this is for Sewol?
Spring Day live is the best!
To understand also the background and inspiration for writing the song and creating the MV, I suggest you also check on the expalanation for BTS's Spring Day by Xceleste.... Thank you for reacting to this and looking forward to seeing new reactions to our Bangtan Boys' songs.
No, explaination by Italian ARMY is the best
Se nota que no tenían idea de donde venia este video y decidieron reirse de él
You should listen to the documentary behind this song. So Sad. So many student lost their life
Essa música foi um tributo, muito mais profunda do que vocês podem imaginar.
Please don’t waste time since the song is a fresh reaction…do what the comments say🙏The people involved deserve to have their story spread so this kind of evil does not happen again!
I think that you should check out explanation to
,, Spring Day " MV
The best is by Italian ARMY'S
but... it's very graphic and heartbreaking 💔
Please watch the explanation video
Greetings from Johannesburg S.A. This is a truly beautiful song, but when you watch the mv there are so many allusions to the Sewol ferry disaster which is still a very painful memory of people in Korea, it kind of adds a deeper layer of sorrow to the song. Knowing that BTS songs are always multi layered, when something seems simple, there has to be another layer. Look up OMELAS and Snowpiercer, and the pile of clothes, these give a hint as to where the video is taking us. We will watch Taylor Marie's guide.
The pile of clothes could represent people who have died. People die but their clothes stay.😢
kalian harus melihat "spring day explanation" by italian Army.... dari sini kalian bisa tau maksud di balik lagu spring day
Please, watch and comendment "Love Wins All" with V BYS and IU.... it's a masterpiece cinematografic!!!!💜💟

No ven cosas básicas. Las prendas girando en el lavarropas. La ropa acumulada. El nombre de un cuento de una escritora famosa en un café. Lo siento es muy flojo su análisis.
Honestly, the thumbnail immediately let me know that you guys don’t know what the song is about. Not saying it has to be about one thing. obviously music is up to interpretation, but it’s definitely at its core about loss and grief so in my opinion, the thumbnail comes off insensitive
Ursula K. Le Guin wrote a book - The Ones Who Walk From Omelas
Sewol Ferry - a very tragic accident where a lot of children died when they didn't have to. The government in power at the time got thrown out of office because of it
Snowpiercer - a movie Directed by Bong Joon Ho
A lot of symoblisms in the MV to unpack
