I got this 3d printer a few weeks ago. It can't build the bottom layer correctly. But there are many details that aren't included on the official video and this one does and I'm sure many of them could be affecting. I will reassemble the printer again following this guide.

This was the second assembly guide I watched, but the first one that actually helped. Thank you for such an easy to follow guide. I don't think I'd have managed to print it with just the manual.

This, and your related videos, are probably the last ones I'll view for setting up and adjusting the 3 v2. In the one video I've found all the tricks and suggestions I've found in other videos, but you have them all together. Your diction and cadence were perfect. Your closeups and editing were superb. With this video alone, I now have the confidence that both the build and calibration will be smooth and precise. From that, I expect close to perfect prints: if not, I see your other videos will save the day. Thank you. Liked, commented and subscribed.

The z switch is NOT supposed to be pushed down until the tab touches the base. The bottom of the switch is supposed to line up with the bottom of the z axis pole (so the tab doesn't touch anything - it is several mm above the base). You even mentioned that if the bed is too low you can smash into the stepper motor. I had this problem - had to move the z switch up as the manual says (although creality missed this in their own video too). I don't know why you would suggest cutting the tab on the z switch and moving it DOWN - this would make the problem even worse and make a more serious collision which could completely ruin your printer. Also, if the z switch ever came loose nothing would stop it falling all the way down - this would be disastrous and probably would ruin your printer also - Why would you suggest this?????

I've just build my first 3D printer and the instructions given in the manual is a little difficult to understand. I first assembled my ender 3v2 as per the given instructions and faced various issues. But because of your video I've also found a manufacturing goof-up by creality. They changed the orientation of the bolt heads on my x carriage pulleys and there is no way of putting the X carriage extrusion. But Thanx to you I've solved this problem. Again thanks a lot man keep up the good work.

I'll be using this as a reference guide since I found this to be the most comprehensive and well paced videos. Just a couple questions, what was the whole thing at the beginning with the power and checking the board. Is there something I need to do here? Are you just checking to make sure you have the right board or what is going on here? Also, if I don't have a right angle ruler how difficult is this step going to be? Should I purchase one before attempting this assembly?

    • @ruiraptor
      @ruiraptor  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Hi Tin, regarding the board checking, we recommend to check if every connector is correctly installed and also, for the screw type connectors, check if the screws are tightened and the wires secure. Regarding the square, you can assemble the printer without it, however, a good square frame will prevent other issues in the future, so, if you can get one, it would be better in our opinion.

Speaking of electronics, disconnect the stepper motors during assembly. They generate high voltages if moved quickly. The new controller boards at 32 bits operate at 1.63vdc at the core, and these motors are making much more than that. Even if it seems fine afterwards, it can get unexpectedly glitchy later. Yes, even our little data buddies can get Alzheimer's...

Hi, the stepper run hot on this printer. That's why Creality put warning stickers on them. These steppers are rated to work up to 80 degrees C but they are running at lower temperature. Did you measure the temperature on yours? It's possible to reduce the Vrefs a bit but this needs to be tested to check if there will be no layer shift/skip steps.

    • @ruiraptor

Hi Jake, for these type of beds (glass with coating) the manufacturer recommends not to use alcohol. They recomend using soap and water. VERY IMPORTANT! DESIGN DEFECT!
These (2) screws share the same hole and bottom out and cannot get fully tight.
Add a 1mm thick FLAT WASHER to the rear side. NOT the front side tapered countersunk screw!!!
REPLACE STOCK SPRINGS WITH YELLOW SPRINGS!
Replace stock black plastic extruder (it WILL break) with metal silver extruder with larger silver coupler. Or get a dual gear extruder such as EZR, BMG clone or Bondtech etc.
2:24 Good point. Best as a visual indicator. I take off every filament change, so would NOT want tight.

    • @ruiraptor
      @ruiraptor  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      - On our printer, both screws have beem get fully tighten without any washer. Maybe Creality changed this like they changed the X carriage backplate.
      - Several users reported breaking the extruder lever, but we didn't break any from our machines yet. The metal/dual gear extruder is an inprovement over the stock one.
      - Not sure what you mean with your last remark.

So I just bought one of this one, and while I'm waiting for it to arrive, I was wondering if you recommend to use loctite, to secure the main screws.
Awesome video by the way, very detailed and useful. Thanks a lot for sharing it ❤️

No Loctite needed. You may need to disassemble later if disaster strikes and the Loctite would be detrimental in that case.

thanks a million for this video.. i setup my printer using the same. The way the video was shot was awesome!
one important point to note.. the z axis limit switch need not stop at the notch given.. you can keep it a bit higher, the base of the switch on the same level as the z axis profile. this will help to raise the overall height, and levelling will also not lead to the y axis stepper motor being hit.. The manual from creality also says the same thing on step 1..

This! I had this issue and thought it was a problem with the unit. Most videos miss this (even creality's own video). BANG! Nasty gouge on my stepper motor housing. Luckily I noticed during the leveling process that something wasn't quite right.

    • @garyjamesstanton414

Wait what? I realised at the end they mentioned this - but they suggested you should cut the tab off the z switch and LOWER the z switch - what!!! This will make the bed lower and make the problem worse. Why would they suggest that!

      Hi,
the stock bed springs have low compression strenght and you need to compress them a bit more for better performance.
However, when compressing the springs a bit more, and after homing, the nozzle will not reach the bed. You need to adjust the Z endstop (to lower the nozzle) but because of that plastic lip/stop, you don't have much adjustment travel.

This guide is so confusing. You explain what to do and show what to do it but dont provide good angle to show how exactly you do it. When i put the extruder onto the piece, which way does it go? What side do i put the belt on? Im so confused

    Note v0.0.9 is FAULTY firmware.
While printing, then TUNE (i.e. adjust temp, etc, then BACK), printer will do layer shift damage, make loud grinding noise, and also possible MicroSD card corruption (it uses MicroSD card to emulate EEPROM storage, layer save for power loss print resume).
    Update to latest v1.0.1 asap.

      Hi Tim D.
Yes, and as we mention in our previous video, the firmware can be updated in one of two ways.
      th-cam.com/video/y87P7K5DTMU/w-d-xo.html
Also, Creality released a new version today (2.0.1) in their website.

@@ruiraptor yeah, looks like they did... but to add to confusion, which Creality is good at, it is a .RAR file instead of .ZIP (most familiar with)? They keep moving files, renaming them etc. It's probably the same Creality v1.0.1 just renamed, but I will have to take a look and UN-RAR it. It would be nice if the included CHANGE LOG too. : /
EDIT: Looks to be Creality v1.0.2 now. No idea what changed from v1.0.1. Creality is so screwy.

Probs a bit late to answer, but just received my Ender 3 v2. I can tell you a few things that make the extra 70eur compared to the v1 make it more bang for your buck. Firstly, it is much more quieter, so if sound is a bit of an issue, this is better. They use new stepper drivers which make the steppers quiet, only comes with this Ender. (If you also take into account that creality sells their 8bit silent mother board for 48eur, the value builds up a little bit). Next, it's a 32bit. I know they said they'll equip all new Ender 3s with a 32bit, but vendors have to get rid of all stock before you get one with a 32bit. 32bit is a nice future proof feature as Marvin might demand more to run in the future. Also, it comes with a 20eur glass bed for free, which for the hobbyist, is better than the magnetic build plate as it lasts longer and works v good with pla (which they'll probs use). The new interface is nice but not necessary, but does offer a few more features than the v1. It uses a 40×40 as opposed to a 20×40 to the v1. The power supply is a meanwell and is mounted on the bottom (functions better than v1 (tho same power supply as v1 pro) and doesn't hit against build plate or as easy to damage). So basically, it's more quality of life changes, better build quality, will produce basically the same print, but comes with most of the upgrades that most will add to their v1. Hopes this answers a few q's.
