What I really like is how the Jackson just says Jackson on the headstock, none of this SE, Squier, LTD, Gio bullshit that immediately advertises it's a cheaper guitar.

Idk, my local guitar center is filled with budget crap like this. There are a few hidden gems but a lot of it isnt worth getting. I like the epiphone SGs and squier affinities but for these shreddy guitars I'd rather shell out a bit more cash. If you dont mind the shape and feel, a used schecter omen or some of their other cheaper guitars are very well fretted and solid sounding guitars. I'm not a huge fan of the aesthetic and overall feel though, they are just definitely QC'd.

    • @colonelangus3826

swingonthespiral I found a used MIM Jackson Pro Dinky Hardtail at my local guitar center for $375. That’s what I would recommend but I just like that someone is reviewing these other budget guitars. A lot of them are garbage but they have come a long way even since I started playing 15 years ago.

In my experience Jackson excels at this price point. The expensive Jacksons are very average to my taste (which is not bad, it is just what you expect from a guitar at that pricepoint). But below 300 quid, no one touches them in sound and playability, especially in the shred category. Ibanez to me is the other way around: great more expensive guitars, shite at the under 300 range

@@RollerCoasterFenatic Cool, I got mine 2010 F-50 for 100$US, which is a good price considering the guitar and I are in Hawaii (wherein everything are ridiculously overpriced). I've swapped the pups for a set of DiMarzios. A Super Distortion S in the neck and a X2N in the bridge. Altho I noticed the F-50 used by Rob was a standard dual humbuckers whilst the one I have has a single coil sized dual rail pup in the neck while the bridge has a full sized humbucker in the bridge (a VERY unusual combo, the only other guitar I have that sports a similar setup is my 1989 Ibanez RG565R-CA, a VERY rare spot model).
I'm seriously thinking of swapping out the pups for a set of Seymour Duncans. Specifically a Cool Rail in the neck and a El Diablo in the bridge. Should give me a bit more versatility with a bluesy '59-style pup in dual rail single coil size and a dual rail humbucker bridge for hot gainy leads. My current setup is a bit TOO gainy in that is still too hot even when the volume is rolled back.

@@kyatzz well thanks but I thought this: since new guitars are announced every every or every 6 months than it would be nice to see a global seller like andertons to do a demo of few models from every brand like ibanez, jackson, charvel, schecter and so on. I personally like Jackson and I'll buy more of their guitars, but for other guitar players it would be nice to have a demonstration of wider variety of guitars, especially 7 string guitars.

About the trem system losing tuning, Chapman has a point there. I bought a 50R$ (12USD) guitar from a friend of mine, and by using .10 strings on it i can abuse the trem system without any worries, the guitar wont lose tuning. Helped that i tweaked on the string-trees and locked the strings on the tuner (no locking-tuners, just technique, youtube helped on that matter)

It would be interesting to see these comparisons with the guitars recorded and produced to see if you can tell the difference that way. Without being there on the room it's very difficult to hear the difference between a £200 and a £2000 guitar when different licks are being played on it. Maybe record the same song/riff on 5 or so guitars using the same gear and then see if you can notice the difference in price. Just a thought

I think the Eastcoast would be a really good guitar for someone like me who is not so much into the lead playing. Otherwise, you can't really not rate an Ibanez for lead stuff if you've ever listened to Steve Vai (although I would rather go for the GRG121DX-WNF at this price range).

Winner, which one do I want to take home. A chapman guitar. That Jackson or ltd will do. I liked all of them, they all sounded a little different. He played the best on the ibanez that's the shredder for rock music, and the Jackson seemed like more for metal and chugging. Obviously the ltd is made for people who favor heavy metal music.

Good vid guys (as always) but great fun too. This vid does highlight two things it took me (certainly pre-internet days at least) ages to learn....
    1) An 'affordable' guitar can, and most often will, sound great through expensive high end amps - but be warned - it does not work the other way round.
    2) Got staying in tune issues on an affordable guitar with a floating trem? Easy. Make sure the strings are wound just right and not too much or too little round the post - or - better still fit locking tuners. Get it (or have it) fully set up. If still having trouble then also look at changing the nut and/or machines. I've put locking tuners and a Graphtech nut on many a (admittedly) not too shabby out of the box Squiers. But they stay in tune great after that! Ok, if you want to do crazy divebombs and the like then you need a Floyd Rose but 'general' playing? No problem. They stay in tune.
Sorry Lee but Chappers is bang on correct with that one!

Eastcoast axe had best tone by far. It's pickups had best clarity and definition. It also had best natural sustain that might be caused by thicker neck. LTD had muddy sounding pickup although I suspect it probably is best playing one out of the box.
