  • @photobyrob

There’s two eras of AC/DC and this is the start of the second era. They started in Australia in the early 70’s. They had 11-12 albums before this: the album before this is Highway to Hell and it was the one that launched them in the US. But on a break during that tour the lead singer, Bonn Scott died after a night on hard drinking. That was 1979. A year later they released Back in Black with this new lead singer, Brian Johnson. This album is epic bc no one had ever been able to come back with a new singer like this and just crush it the way this album does. The first single released was Hells Bells. This is the Summer of 1980…no social media, no internet. Nobody know what to expect or what was coming. I was 15 and away at a Summer camp when I tuned in to a transistor radio to hear for the first time Hells Bells. When I see you guys hearing these songs for the first time and reacting, it takes me right back to that camp dorm when I first heard that bell ring out of that little radio. Amazing! From this album you should check out Hells Bells and Shoot to Thrill. From the Bonn Scott era a classic to try is Riff Raff live at the Apollo around 1976 or ‘77 (in Ireland/Scotland..not the one on Harlem). When they started they were barely out of high school and Angus was looking for some kind of a schtick or signature look and he settled in his school uniform. His brother, Malcolm played the rhythm guitar and wrote most of the songs. Once when an interviewer asked him what he thought of being considered one of the best guitar players in the world, he commented that he wasn’t even the best player in his family😂. They last video they released was in 2020 for the song, Through the Mists of Time. It’s emotional for someone like me who has listened to and loved their music since I was a teenager, hearing it when it was first released.

Because this guy sounded so very much like their deceased lead singer and it was saying I'm back...we were freaked out.

Riff Raff is a great early song from AC/DC and the official video is live so, a great example of what they were like when they were young.

Another epic band . Angus young , like myself , was a Glaswegian originally . If memory serves me right he emigrated with his parents to Australia 🇦🇺. I’m sure I’ve seen individuals refer to him as Australian but he wasn’t

The first appearance of the new singer Brian Johnson. Back in Black was a tribute to the previous singer Bon Scott. Who died on the previous tour Highway to Hell. Bon was 34 years old when he died and had already been a world renowned singer in the late 1960' with a band called The Valentines. One of the Valentines biggest hits was Build me up Buttercup. The guitar riffs were written by Malcolm Young, the guy playing the big white Gretsch. Malcolm died a few years ago after a lifetime of smoking cigarettes.

The boys had a work ethic second to none. That came from growing up in Oz and having to pass the ''Pub Test'' which was entertaining partying Aussie audiences who if you didn't give them what they wanted you knew very quickly and escape was hot on your mind. ACDC passed the pub test and were adored because you knew you were in for a great time, every time. Then they conquered the World. Says it all. People are only divided on the best period because of the two great frontmen, Bon Scott and Brian Johnson who knew each other briefly before ACDC formed. That's a great story in itself. Brian tells it on youtube. The Bon era is where ACDC honed their craft with a exceptional frontman and put out raw pure rock at it's best. No question about that. Angus and Malcolm Young were the powerhouse with Bon in creating and writing songs. Malcolm was a genius and drove the rhythm section whilst Angus showed why he is one of the greatest rock guitarists ever. Enjoy. We've been doing so since the early 70's. The albums are great, but live ..... the BEST.

This album has all great songs , although you should start with their first album and go album by album. The first album is called " High Voltage ". ACDC started in the 70's with their first singer Bon Scott. Angus Young plays Blues / Rock. He talks about that he was influenced by many blues players , but one big one that influenced him was Chuck Berry. Angus does that certain duck walk that came from Chuck Berry . Also Chuck Berry is famous for the double stops on the 🎸

I am 61 years old - was lucky enough to be listening to AC/DC from my early teens to now - I am pretty sure this was released as a bit of a tribute to Bon Scott the original lead singer after his death and the introduction of Brian the lead singer here - did love Brian but my early love of this band was with Bon Scott. Another iconic Australian bands in the same period of time which were just as iconic but not known around the world like AD/DC was Cold Chisel with lead singer Jimmy Barnes (my favorite singer all time) - do yourself a favour and have a listen to 'Bow River' Ringside version live by Cold Chisel - It is completely fire.
