    I would want to include how old Roblox had more of a style to it. If you look at experiences today, each one looks so different and have a different feel to it, where you could say Roblox Studio really is a legit game engine. Where in old Roblox, everyone used the same physics, the same car mechanics, the same combat, and the same player movement. Games had something in common with each other where you could immediately say, "Ya, that's Roblox."

      Experiences today look different??? Ever tried playing a simulator, they use the same icons, the same font, the same ui design and even the same music
      not to mention all games have the same cubic pets which don't really scream unique :)

      but its definetly undeniable how crazy roblox can get when developers push it to its limits. good showcase games, that one fps game that uses meshes alot to make it a game you would find on steam. but those types of developers dont get much recognition as the first things i said in this comment
      and it sucks, roblox feels alot less vibrant and cartoonish

    I joined in 2007 and I'm currently a developer on Roblox - one of my early games is even in the Roblox trailer for like half a second at 1:17 in the video.
    Old roblox studio was horrendous to use. I managed to hit the top game in 2007 for like a day with a crappy Pirates of the Robloxian game (which for the year and time of day, was only 20 players). Spawning parts, as you mentioned, was difficult. Most games just used free models, as did mine. It got way easier within just a year and I was building tons of experimental games using studio. Only in 2011 did I finally have a game take off - "After The Flash" - and it has been a running series since then, we're now on our 8th game in the series.
    2007 Roblox was indeed super tight-knit, you could hop on a game one day and see 4 people you know, then without even friending them, see them again the next day on different games because the website was so small at the time. Games also (up until the end of 2013) didn't rely on DevEx - so games all felt like a real person's personal passion project rather than some faceless corporate money machine many top games feel like today. I pay all my living expenses using the DevEx I earn from my games nowadays, but I must admit we lost some things along the way and I don't think we'll get them back so long as we live within a fully capitalist economy - where we produce enough food to feed everyone on Earth and yet the people who own the food production want to keep it a paid service forever so they can remain wealthy and powerful.
    This is just the nature of this economic system we live within - it sucks the passion and life out of everything it gets its greedy hands on. All the fun things roblox has removed or shifted away from (including Tix) are pieces of this system that had to die for the sake of more profit. I'm hoping the zoomer & alpha generations can understand this crucial detail and change the world for the better. They've got my support, at least.

    • @user-uo8ny1kj4c
      @user-uo8ny1kj4c ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm a zoomer who joined in 2012 and I've just seen it go downhill over in the span of 11 years. Roblox fuels degenerates and pedophilia these days and so many pedo youtubers still haven't been terminated just because they're supporting every decision roblox makes. Not to mention of david bazucki possibly greenlighting the idea of having nsfw games on a block game. It's obvious at this point that they're creeps.

      Socialist economic analysis aside, I think you're right about the tight-knit nature of the community. I joined in September 2008 and I remember seeing the same names all the time in different games. I faded away from the game in 2012 but imo Old Roblox died probably late 2009ish when the game got too big for the 'everyone knows everyone' feel that it had when I first started.

    As someone who joined in late 2016, roblox was way more fun until ~2020. The site got stale, they got rid of all the colors on the site and recently ruined the logo even further, roblox has gotten far more corporate over the years. The removal of events was the worst for me, i really liked events. even some of the last egg hunts that werent liked much across the internet, the games page isnt helpful anymore, its always the same games. the site is getting more and more boring and so are the games. I wish i got to play early roblox because it just looks SIMPLER.

    I was 7 years old in 2012 and Roblox Studio instantly clicked with me. It just felt like a level editor. I think the ‘parts’ system of placing and extruding is an insanely intuitive form of modelling, especially when the ‘free models’ you could use were also made of the same bits.

    I think in old roblox, you could feel passion and love, along with as shoots25 said, they focused on functionality and fun.
    Now, its all about money, or the game has so few players the developer doesn't think many people actually enjoy it, and thus the actually good games die or don't have enough players for new ones to find it.
    Also, I gotta say, roblox is far more laggy for me now than it was when I first made an account (which was in early 2016)
    Then, I'd have a nice ~30 ping, and now, on good days I have ~100 ping

    hi, 2013 veteran here, great video, however there are some stuff missing:
    >oders: if you think slenders are bad now, you had no idea how bad it was back then, most popular games would have kids just dating while not playing the game, people yelling "123 (sometimes abc) for gf" at all times on chat, and if the game had a sitting tool, OOOH BOY, stuff would be way too much degenerate for me to speak of
    >exploits: nowadays its very rare to see exploiters now in the platform, maybe once in a full moon you will see one, but back in the day it was about 20% of time you joined a popular game, lets not forget the infamous c00lkid now
    >fps: in old clients of roblox the fps was a mere 30, yep, you saw it right, 30 fps locked. and people nowadays complain about the 60 fps max we now have...
    >forum addup: the forums were a wildwest, it was either people actually talking about stuff nicely and civilized, or pure chaos with people fighting each other all the time, plus the multiple shady links people would post there all the time
    >condo games: nowadays its almost impossible to see a condo game, seems like the moment they appear they instantly get terminated, back in my day, oh boy, it was plentiful, almost every month you would see 1-3 popping up on the popular games, it was hell on earth
    hope my memories of "old roblox" had helped! tho in one thing i do gotta agree with the other ro-boomers is that the majority of games we got now are bland, uninspired and cash grabs, but ay, maybe in the future we will get more quality games in the platform

    I don’t really think people miss old roblox and rather, they how small and conserved the website was. In old roblox, it was so easy to find friends and people you could connect with. Now, the website is so big that you can’t find anyone to connect with. Another positive of it being small was because there was not a lot of room for garbage games, and it wasn’t about making money. I think the last creative game idea I last saw was doors, and that came out around 6 months ago. It’s all about making money to devs now, and you can see that with game variety. Almost all the big games that came out this month have been obbys, simulators or Brookhaven ripoffs. The bar is sow low for roblox games that putting in effort is something most devs don’t even do. Don’t get me wrong, there are some quality games with amazing effort put into them, but they are few and far in between. It’s just that old roblox, the goal wasn’t money, it was making games for fun, and it’s something almost no devs do anymore.

      its definitely due to things like dev ex being added in 2013 that gave devs a different insentive and i feel making games with money being the first priority is just a really bad thing, sure i would like it to be a lot more about passion but its gotten to a point where multiple dev teams work on making things that need to be paid instead of justa guy making something passionate

    I joined in 2015 and people BACK then were saying they missed "old roblox" lmao. The bar will always be different.
    Plus, I think people just miss more close, tight-knit communities. There was (most likely) a sense of intimacy and pure fun associated with being around the same people mostly, who were much more likely to share your interests. Now it's just too...big?
    I think ROBLOX's transformation can be a reflection of the shifting internet culture. We all say we miss the old internet, despite the glaring issues back then (easy-to-access gore, no filter, bigotry everywhere) but what we really mean is that we miss when internet content wasn't made purely for monetary gain, there were less normies on and fewer people whom you could connect to easier.
    Moral of the story is quality over quantity I guess.

    I'm not sure if anyone has reached out yet regarding the mention of spawning parts - there was a Toolbox menu ("Insert" on the top left), which worked in practically the same manner as the one as in modern Studio. At least in 2008, by default, you were able to spawn a part from a multitude of colour choices, there were also some models endorsed by Roblox themselves, such as the Homestead Furniture pieces, the very ancient vehicles (the ones which you steered using separate keybinds), various billboards, etc.
    I would also like to add that while I agree that the Studio functionality was limited, despite this, people were able to create some cool and unique stuff using the engine! A great example of this is Clockwork's old youtube channel (palmfreak), in which he uploaded a few videos showcasing his creations with the old engine, some of which really show its uniqueness and out-of-box potential. I believe the scoring for old Studio could be higher, however, it is difficult to determine if that were the case, as we can only use archived clients (which lack a bit of the intended functionality) as reference.
    Aside from that, very good video, about time someone looked at this seemingly neverending debate with an objective point of view! Overall, I still consider 2007 Roblox to be a great version of the platform - mainly due to its Lego-leaning aesthetics and its simple, practical nature, but it's subjective, as I'm a user since 2008. There is no doubt, however, that modern Roblox offers a lot more possibilities, making it better in some ways, but there is also no doubt that Roblox became a lot more corporate and lost its charm too - it's really a double-edged sword.

    I am a roblox vet, I do not play modern roblox unless a friend really wants me to play with them. I started playing roblox back in 2009 after being told about the game and I hopped on to it and fell in love with the game, I was also playing club penguin after school and now I had a new game to try out, and it was fantastic, it's a shame because the design of the website in 2009 was in my opinion the best the site looked, you had the in between of 2007 website and the 2015 website. and for me the community, games, and how the engine and the sounds all of it was just a feeling I don't think you can ever replicate. I remember liking the sounds and the jank of the game and the work people put into the games were fantastic, although just like roblox now, understand that roblox has been plagued with copycat games and rp games since it was born, like for example 2009 was always tycoon games, lava ride down something, zombie games, and hide and seek. the events roblox made were fantastic and they were always so much fun, work at a pizza place for example had a massive change in it's design imo for the worse but that was only because the community changed around 2013. I would say the golden era in terms of games, community, functionality, and charm was 2009-2014. 2013 was when roblox tried to copy minecraft and change the water physics or whatever, and it looked off, they also were trying with new roblox avatars after the 2.0 era, which was the last good player model era. 2015 was when games started getting to be where they are now and by 2017 its pretty much been the same.
    I am very fortunate to have the memories of playing the games we got back then and I got a little bit of everything and I watched as this thing I grew up with got bitter and more corporate and unfortunately greedy. And the community is just cringe now. but maybe it's just because I am older now and how those who play act are how I was acting back then idk. :P

    In my opinion, old Roblox or new Roblox just depends on the person. The reason why people say old Roblox is better because some people are blinded by nostalgia, but in reality when they actually get to play old Roblox again, the feeling would be different from their past selves. Most people that say old Roblox is better are usually new Roblox players that just heard a bunch of people said and the pros of old Roblox, but there's still a lot of cons in old Roblox just like you said. Newer Roblox just has a lot of more things to do, more advanced games, etc, while old Roblox are mostly very simple and limited. It honestly just depends on you, most people that say old Roblox is better probably won't enjoy it that much when they play it again, but some people could still enjoy it.

      “More advanced games” and all they do is try and squeeze as much money out of you as possible.
      Old roblox games were better because of how simple they were. Complexity is not automatically good, and considering that the simplest games are more accessible and fun, old roblox was more enjoyable compared to all the garbage pushed on the front page nowadays.
      Modern roblox mirrors the general gaming scene, where developers try to make an addicting game with lots of stuff to buy in order to maximize profits, while well-crafted and fun games get ignored.

    • @noob5373
      @noob5373 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      you may say that old roblox games are better, but that doesnt mean you would feel the same when you actually compare them to modern roblox games. old roblox games are usually very basic, not very good controls, very limited features, etc. and usually old roblox games doesnt have a lot of replayability, the reason why people enjoyed it back then is because most of them are likely to be just kids, and you know kids they just have fun with any kind of games. i also bet that your current favorite game on roblox right now is a modern roblox game. so what you say about old roblox games doesnt really change what you feel about them when you actually play them now, and if you do youll most likely get bored quickly and leave.

    2016-2020 was the fall off point. I can't pinpoint the death of "classic" roblox on the forum removal, tix removal, corpo marketing/redesign, or devEX/BC removal, but those are the major pillars of change in Roblox to today. I'd add in meshes too due to how games are radically changed, but that's more of a personal gripe than anything else, it takes away that blocky charm most games had.

    I consider the end of old Roblox to be in late 2010. Around then they updated the UI and website and that’s when it started to shift slowly to what it is now.

      its also about what they didnt experience, i find it funny to see videos from like phirfox about how people in 2013 thought 2008 was better, then people saying in 2018 that 2013-2015 was better, and now people in current times saying 2018 was better.

      @@stroyosh4670 You can make an argument that anything pre corporate was a better generation than the current. Corporations and the status of our economy slowly crushes the fun out of literally everything. Music, video games, TV shows, movies, and even fast food restaurants. Everything you can get with an abundance as long as you pay the price. Around 2015 is when things legitimately began to change for Roblox.

    Early 2013 was the best era of roblox for me. Everything had such a distinct "roblox" feel to it. people actually talked to eachother in servers and lobbies weren't flooded by 5 year olds. The games were more like social hangouts and games weren't made to make money and they were purely fun and passion

  • @StrangeStanleySQUEAAK
    @StrangeStanleySQUEAAK ปีที่แล้ว +4

    A newer player's perspective (my perspective):
    Me personally, I don't see the appeal of "old Roblox." The timeframe of 2006-2013 on Roblox just subjectively doesn't seem as good in the quality of games and community. Since there's so many big studios and very talented and expierenced people, the games are a lot more playable. Also, since there's so many people playing, there's so many different communities of people with common and niche interests. There's just so many opportunities to meet new people on the platform as it appeals to people of all backgrounds. There may be charm and good features to "old Roblox", but I believe people are just blinded by nostalgia. I think there's also an appeal to old Roblox among people who weren't even born in the time of old Roblox because people take Roblox too seriously. Just because Roblox is very corporate, doesn't mean you still can't see it as a fun block game. If you take something too seriously, you're not going to have fun.

    • @knife_xsonicparadox
      @knife_xsonicparadox ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Exactly OG players are taking roblox too seriously and losing their mind over modernization like old roblox was their home and modern roblox a disaster that destroyed old roblox bcuz roblox want to evolve
      Another reason why i hate old roblox boomers cuz they take roblox seriously like a religion .
      Sure the website was full of life colorful ,simpler not rooms for garbage cash grab games , old internet style , unique , original .
      Games were fun even bad games were decent
      Roblox used to do livestreams but due to 2014 twitch incident and 2019 stream audio problems roblox losed to motivation of caring about the community .
      But nowdays 70% of community care was in the past and 90% of prioritizing profit takes the spotlight for every corporations so as roblox.

    I first launched into Roblox in 2010. The golden era of Roblox.
    I feel as though the simplicity of Roblox back then was fantastic. Growing up with this game over the past 14 years, seeing how it has developed into something completely different is absolutely mind blowing.
    Looking back at the old homepage honestly brings a tear to my eye. And gets the nostalgia juices flowing.
    Getting builders club for the first time, your first limited, everything just stays.
    I hung my hat up for the last time a few years ago. Soley for the fact that I suppose I grow up.
    Roblox will forever hold a place in my heart. Simply for the old simplicity.
