Have a 14 focus, far better handling, fun, and quicker and still runs fine at 206k and no leaks, no engine problems, no electrical problems, and 5 speed manual. Bet kilmer would say it will fall apart by a set mileage of around 100k. Transmission is rough, though I've beaten the ahit out of it; been in two deer accidents and most of the mileage is stop and go on some of the worst roads in America, combined with my need to extract all 165 up out of it 90% of the time ive druven5, accelerated hard a lot in those 206k.

A friend of mine was the editor of a prestigious American car magazine back in the 1970's and he got stuck doing the car review on the then current Corolla.... After testing the car, he wrote that there was absolutely nothing wrong with the car.. it did everything just fine... but no matter how hard he tried he couldn't find a single reason that anyone would actually want to buy one. Even back then, he considered the car the epitome of boring.
I'm pretty sure that's part of being a car reviewer... they want to talk about fast acceleration, or great handling or high top ends... or even luxury or tech innovations... Just saying that a car is well built, does as advertised and reliable makes for a boring review about a boring car.
It actually wasn't until years later when a used car dealer friend of mine told me how well used Toyotas sold that I asked him why... He answered that his customers weren't rich and what they really wanted was basic reliable transportation. No one ever asked him about acceleration or handling or infotainment... they wanted something that would get them to work and back home for as long as possible without breaking down or costing them a lot to repair.
So from the perspective of a auto writer, the Toyota was in fact boring and made for a bad read, from a used car dealer... boring was worth gold all day long. Real people prefer reliable and boring cars to expensive lawn ornaments.

I had a 2005 with manual gearbox. It was my first car. Thanks to it I learned how to work on cars: they are so simple to work on, parts readily available and not expensive at all. It's a very robust project, they are made to last, if you do the required maintenance in it and only replace the regular wear parts with good quality ones, it's gonna last forever. If you want a reliable and affordable car, that is comfortable and easy to maintain, there's just no competition for it. Maybe the Honda Civic, but the Civic is not as easy to work on, does not have as much trunk space, and the parts are usually more expensive.

Hey Scotty love the channel. Speaking of Toyota Corollas when I was younger my next door neighbor would buy mid 70's Corollas and I would help him fix them up for resale. Never came a cross one with bad engines or transmissions. Maybe stly body repairs and paint and wheels.cwe had one with a bad shining turn out had a bent drive shaft. Fix that quick. Just can't kill a Toyota Corolla. Love them old mid 70's Corollas. Wish I had one now. And they were great on gas. Thank you again Scotty for all of your tips and tricks. Keep up the great work you do.

"Now that I'm 66"... I have one too! My last cars were destroyed by bad drivers and bad weather,so i gave up on a nice car,and looked for a Beater. My friend had a 2006 Corolla LE for sale only $1200! It looked terrible but ran great with 208,000. I gave him $2000 so we were both happy😊the thing runs and when a part breaks it's the original, you just replace it! It's so good to not worry about it! Boring is Liberating! Thanks for this educational and funny video, one of your best!😀

We had a Cadillac with the north star engine and power everything. There was always something wrong with it. It was a huge money pit. So we bought a boring Corolla and love it. Brakes and oil change is all I’ve had to do. I got the idea to buy one by watching Scotty’s channel. Thanks Scotty!

Im happy that my 2000 Toyota Avensis has drum brakes on rear wheels because they never freeze and get stuck in winter conditions like disc brakes on my other car.
On cars which has disc brakes rear end snow gets between wheel and brake caliber, then it melts and freezes over the night.
Next morning one or both of the rear wheels wont spin at all. Completely stuck and you have to hit brake caliber with a hammer until the wheel start to spin normally.
Drum brake cover spin with a wheel so they never freeze and lock rear wheels.
Also drum brake parts are inside a cover so snow wont get inside.
Drum brakes on rear and ABS system is best option if you have cold and snowy winters.
