So my sister's Japanese friends came over about an hour ago for a school project and I was still sleeping in bed. One of her friends started playing this on my Steinway and let me tell you it was the most beautiful melody I've woken up to. I immediately rushed out of my door to compliment him on playing such a beautiful song. I just had to ask the guy for the name of the song so I can learn it myself and so here I am, on TH-cam, just listening and falling in love with this wonderful melody.
This is a beautiful story my friend.. I can just imagine the pure majestic nature of being woken by this song.

the name of the pianist who composed this transcription of the piece is Shinobu Takaishi.

I've been listening to this song since the initial upload in 2008... it's been 13 years since then and this song is still very beautiful and still very emotional. Here's to another decade or so to this wonderful song!

The intro is so crisp and innocent, like birds flying in the vast blue sky, bringing memories of that summer once again in front of my eyes.
Coming back to this every. Such an unknown gem in piano and anime history. The feels are just exceptional as well as the arrangement skills with the piano version here. I just decided to finally learn it full ❤

This piece is amazing. It really is the best. And the beggining just brings me to different places in my mind. I uploaded ths to my i-pod and listened to this on a journey to and from a school trip on a coach full of noisy and loud kids. This took me to a place of tranqulity and serenity. Just amazing. No words to describe how amazing this is. If the composer is reading this just know how talented you are and that you probably inspire thousands of people with the single piece alone. My credits to this piece. :D

This song is so perfect. Its my ultimate goal to play on piano. The best version. Natsukage is far mor nostalgical, but this... Truly the best arrangement.

This has so for been the best cover I'll ever found... no other piano transcription I've heard has yet to compare. Really dynamic, and isn't just a simple transcription of the song. I'm printing off this one for sure.

I think it fits because the lyrics talk about being weak but trying to find their own wings to fly on. The piano gets really soft at parts and then gets stronger.

@Lightavion Clannad and Air = pure win.
Even though Clannad made me break down and sob, while Air was just sadness.
After going into this series without any real prior knowledge, It wasn't the ending I was initially expecting... it was so much more though. Simultaneously one of the saddest and also most beautiful endings to anything i've ever seen
The title does not lie, definitely the best.
Every time I listen to this song, it always reminds me of the sky and the clouds roaming in the skies... :)

I absolutely love the opening, the song as a whole is great but the opening just separates it from the other transposed piano pieces that other pianists have made

@Echinda1 Sure there is. Kanon and Clannad. Air was made by the same people, whereas Clannad is widely considered the masterpiece (of all anime, for many actually):

Air is pretty short, I suggest watching it before the other two. I played ToA the game and watched Haruhi Suzumiya, and the atmosphere of both is totally different compared to Air. If you watch Air after those two, it might... I don't wanna spoil anything for you, but it will have the opposite effect on you're emotions :P Gotta love it though, despite how short it is.

I really didn't like Air. It had a LOOOOONG drawn out plotline, with abstract and open cliffhangers in my opinion. The OST and the last episode is amazing though.

actually, the rather sharp tone of the piano fits the song perfectly, as compared to a warm and soft tone.
I don't know why, but for some reason this music makes me remember my summer of 1999 which was the summer I moved, the pokemon crazy was going on and we played a lot of N64. huh, strange.
The mind is strange like that. You never know what might trigger memories to resurface.
It was indeed a great anime. The ending, I feel, was a bit uncalled for. The ending was a great twist but to feel the pain of the char. He spent his life with out his mother with believing that this doll has the power to save the girl in the sky, using the doll in fact did not. It does, however, have room to make a new version of the anime with the ending it has. This is still a great anime.

I absolutely adore this theme song...I used to play it on my piano but a much simpler version of it. No WAAAAAY I could ever meet the epicness of this playing here.

Haha, indeed. Clannad is the grand masterpiece of anime. Both first, and especially second season.
Kanon is very good, it is also easier to "get" than Air if that helps, it's dub alo kicks ass, so yeah..watch it... :p

The original song is excellent, the piano version is even better. The pianist is a genius, the one who transcribed this song (the pianist?) is a prodigy. I normally don't listen to this kind of music, but this is just awesome. I'm trying to play this right now, and I start serious practicing after ATCL.
