Honestly after seeing many torture tests, I would say a clean AR works about the same as an AK out of mud, the main difference is the AK does not need to be cleaned nearly as often and it will still have the same results.
I was in the army in cuba in the mid 90's, i had assigned an AKM and that thing could fire under any circumstances, dirty, muddy, you name it!!... made in the USSR i still remember the serial number HH1098.
Its not waterproof at all, they just arnt effected by poor conditions Water still gets in the whole rifle, but wont effect it like it does on allied forces platforms :p
@@ThePOSM because the parts are loosely connected, thats what makes the AK platform look like it can withstand everything, it sacrifices a lot of accuracy, but still if you get mud or whatever in the actual parts and not the loose space, then well - it would jam like an AR or an M4.

I have always washed all of my firearms with soap and water, followed by a nice bath of firearm lubrication, no rust over the last 50 years they all still look beautiful and fire brand new.
For those of you not in the know, even though rifles may still function after being exposed to water, it is important to dry them off afterwards, twice, and grease them up again.

I haven’t shot a ak but I do own a galil gen 2 in 5.45 and I’d venture to say it’s almost the same thing since it’s the same gas system and mag system. Just more precision machined

And I know some modern tier 1 operators do the same

I’m not sure where you live but once you leave the house the weather has a say in just how comfortable, uncomfortable or down right miserable you will be while out and about. We always laugh at all the nice clean soldiers in Army recruiting poster, it isn’t real at least to us. Just because it is raining inclement weather no one goes home so they don’t get wet. A huge portion of the NCOs in 1976 till around 1996 or so (at least in Combat Arms) were Vietnam Veterans. So they stressed weapons maintenance along with other things that kept them alive. Fort Knox as well as a few other Army Posts had WARSAW Pact vehicles and would run some of their people through a Soviet Vehicle Operation class. Infantry, Armor and Scouts (Combat Arms MOSs) are out in the field a lot of the time in all types of weather. That’s why there is or were slang terms for REMFs, Pogues (or Pogi Bait) and WOGs or Fobbits. The U.S. Army is a professional Army, but even professional armies can get mauled.

We trained on everything, especially what we the dick heads fighting us were using. Im a former Army Recon Doc, deployed all over 03, 05-06, 09, & 11. generally WAY less expensive ammo, so very reasonable stock. AK's don't care about steel ammo, so don't think you have to to upgrade to brass casing to "save" your weapon. But, a coating for better cycling sure doesn't hurt.

I was a Hardcore AR guy until I spent 10 years with an M16. Got my first GF3 AK and had to buy a 2nd for the hell of it. If you haven't fired an AK. Go do it!
I haven’t shot a ak but I do own a galil gen 2 in 5.45 and I’d venture to say it’s almost the same thing since it’s the same gas system and mag system. Just more precision machined

@@syabill2825some of the best special forces operators have never looked down their sights in a close range scenario, dr Dick Thompson (Vietnam Green Beret officer) said he never did at all, always from the hip, and they trained to the pony of being 100% as efficient and way quicker then looking down the sights in the types of engagements he was getting into as a MACV-SOG recon team leader. And I know some modern tier 1 operators do the same

I’m not sure where you live but once you leave the house the weather has a say in just how comfortable, uncomfortable or down right miserable you will be while out and about.

Infantry, Armor and Scouts (Combat Arms MOSs) are out in the field a lot of the time in all types of weather.
That’s why there is or were slang terms for REMFs, Pogues (or Pogi Bait) and WOGs or Fobbits.
The U.S. Army is a professional Army, but even professional armies can get mauled.

generally WAY less expensive ammo, so very reasonable stock. AK's don't care about steel ammo, so don't think you have to to upgrade to brass casing to "save" your weapon. But, a coating for better cycling sure doesn't hurt.
