about the bobble head babies, its aligned with the narrative and is supposed to be the form of a Homonculus, which in the show was described in class in relation to some dudes theory that i cannot remember the name of, to be a humanoid with certain parts of the body enlarged depending on certain aspect of individual, and considering the human race is most well known for its brain, the head is enlarged in comparison to the rest of the body. once the person feels hate or anger, the homonculus changed to a more agressive shape (the dog that makoto is so fond off for example) my biggest issue with that is that all the babies of the three kids are the same, even tho they all have vastly different personalities. a subtle difference besides the eyes would have been nice.
TL;DR: The bobble head babies were there for a reason, not by designers choice.
When he said 'avoid pink hair' I immediately thought of Yuno Gasai from Future Diary.
General rule of thumb Pink hair ALWAYS CRAZY
Absolutely LOVE ghost hound. It's nice to watch an anime like this once in a while.
I really liked it :) the bobble heads didnt bother me as much as i thought they would. I really liked it when they went into psychology and how the brain works. Im studying psychology in school so it really was interesting and it had a nice ending.
I learned a lot of psychology thanks to this anime
Wow, remember when things came in cases? lol Or existed in physical medium at all?
Oh hey, someone aside from me watched this show. This is one of the most atmospheric shows I've ever seen, especially in terms of sound. I loved it.
The baby ghosts made me drop the anime back when I was watching it. A shame, since I pretty much enjoyed it otherwise.
yeah, I remember that fact bothered me a lot too, I watched the rest, but seriously... after the dark undertones with his sister dying and just subtle but depressing atmosphere, the baby forms just seemed totally out of place... The anime just gets worse as it gets further unfortunately, but it's never quite so bad as to make you hate it absolutely.
It's just the first couple episodes make you think the show is going to be a masterpiece, then the rest is... okay...
I liked them They made sense to me the only part of their non pysical selves that were well defined were their main senses the ears and eyes and taste as I recall this was further pointed out when they learnt what a homunculus was their baby forms were their homunculi basically
Holly shit this was 11 years ago. I just got this anime from rightstuff lol
Funny thing, I've reviewed both of these shows, though you'll have to watch them on my website as I haven't uploaded them to youtube as of yet. You can find a link to my site on my channel page. I hope you enjoy them!
He should do a review on Ghost Hunt, I just finished that and it was amazing. Also I heard its better btw the two but I will give this one a try after xxxHOLIC or hyouka.
here is the deep down explanation of Ghost hound:
I watched this absolutely fabulously fancy yumyum yueiehfaweufdhau ygu anime a few years ago. it was awesome and badass and awesome and ya
but last summer I really got into studying metaphysics and spirituality, and I have finally fully understood ghost hound.
the whole anime dwells upon the subject of ASTRAL PROJECTION. what is this astral projection you may ask? well, it's just a fancier term of saying out of body experience. but while researching astral projection I realized how it's exactly what happens in this anime. When your consciousness leaves your body (btw anyone can do this, just search tutorials on youtube) as energy, you enter a different frequency of dimension. also, in every dimension you looks different (that explains the baby bobble head stuff).
The ghosts in the anime are actually interdimensional beings. just as there are humans and plants and animals in our current frequency of dimension, there are beings in the other dimensions. cool eh?
so therefore, ghost hound is based on the scientific and spiritual phenomenon of ASTRAL PROJECTION. man i feel proud of this lmao
also, this is all proven with quantum physics, so before you go on telling me how this is fake and blahblah do yOUR RESEARCH! ( 0 --- 0)
You should listen and read Terrence Mckenna's works, also Julian Jane's bichameral mind theory
Can you do a review of Ghost Hunt? I'd like to know your opinions on it.
Donno bout the review but its good 😊
Arkada you are seriously one of the funniest dudes on TH-cam.
so true , unique comedic talent.
Even tho i started disliking ur less egdy criticisms, you are still the most quality anime reviewer on youtube.
Does anyone know what the hell that little goblin demon was that Tarou's therapist saw? Looks like a mini version of the Beldam from Coraline? I quit the anime not long after that part because it freaked me out and the anime was crazy and unnerving as hell anyway, but in the following episodes I saw it was never mention again. It wasn't the Astral forms of the kids, it was some little weird naked demon baby.
careful grarkada. your aizen jacket is showing.
that ending and the red light really scared me !!!!
nice work :)
I loved Ghost Hound, it's just amazing, the art, the music, the story line, the characters (Makoto!!!) And I think the bubble head baby spirit look was to sybolise the newness of their soul traveling, cause once they learn to control it, they can become anything they like...
Like awesome black and red spirit dogs ^_^
The suggestion that there might be a level of consciousness beyond the
physical realm has fascinated people for thousands of years. Are we tied
to these bodies forever, or, could this vague concept of “we” be a mere
illusion; a solid container that our ‘ego’ is ready to transcend at any
given moment? Science has one answer, religion offers another. "Ghost
Hound combines the two".----->glad i watched it (completed today);its the best i ever watched after "code geass" and "Monster".
if you know something greater please reply.
danes53 I haven't seen Ghost Hound yet, but I would suggest Texhnolyze, Lain, Ergo Proxy and Fractale.
thanks dude i will check those. And i'av seen Lain it is good in its way.
This is my one of my only few safe havens were I can be with other fans of this anime.
On that note of avoiding girls with pink hair... he should probably avoid Gasai Yuno too XD
You're videos are so great, Arcada.
Review Shiki plz
+Taghreed F.Hasheish Boring boring boring tooo much boring.. !!!!
i recall watching this anime, and it left me with so many existential questions and dread 🥲
You really need to make an updated review of this
Clannad had the same problem with the case. I took my clannad dvds out of that case and threw it away.
Should do a review of Nabari no Ou! I thought it was alright (far as story line goes) but I know nothing about animation and would like to see what you think about it!
I dont know man, I felt like it went waaaaaay off tracked and left me pissed afterwards....they started to focus on a character that was mostly there as an obstacle at first.....but then hes there friend and they help him to the end of the anime. Like why do that? What about the main character and his story that made the show interesting in the first place?
This review makes me wonder if you actually watched the anime. I can agree with you completely , but only if we're talking about the first part, but it deteriorates into embarrassment as it goes on with having one of the worst endings I've ever seen in an anime.
It had so much potential.
should i watch the anime 'Ghos hound' or 'Ghost hunt'?
i've heard they're both pretty good, someone can tell me which they liked more?
thanks
I left the video so I could sleep at around 0:12
It gave me an ad at 1:02 to compensate.
"Wait, here it is!" *Foreboding music* "IS THAT THE GALAXY NOTE 4?!?!?!"
Worst decision of my life.
God i'm so glad other people know/love these show! Thankyou so much for your review. i agree with most but i have to say my australian copy didn't have the case deformity thingy your's had :/ i saw a pic of 'G.H.' on crunchyroll a few years ago and after finding out the name and summary i went to youtube and watched the intro and fell in love! that was all i needed to convince myself to buy it, and i was not disappointed! anyway thanks again! i look forward to more reviews!
and exactly these type of shows is why i like to browse through your older videos
I think the deal is with the case is that they were being cheap. The Cowboy Bebop case uses more plastic, which would cost more money. So to cut corners they made a case that has only that one spot to store discs. And if you break a disc you may go out and get another disc. A fairly evil idea, but I don't think they could have thought that far ahead.
Are you ever going to review ghost hunt since you mentioned it?
Something i want to recommend to David Lynch.
Try Texhnolyze, but take it slow, there is only so much quality mindfuck anime out there.
I just finished watching the series on Hulu and I must this anime was very different, in good way. I found it very enjoyable and literaly was stalk watching episode after episode and I enjoyed all of it, except the baby head thingys. I found the metion of this in your Big O review and I must say I'm glad the I was lead too a very interesting series. Keep up the Great Reviews Arkada.
I remember renting this anime years ago, but sadly I forgot what it was called. Thank you! Cause once I found this video of yours all the memories came back, and I shall watch this gem again, and oh myyyyyyyy, that opening. I loved LOVED that opening. Visually and musically it was perfect!
I think that this show is recommended for those who are at least interested in scientific explanation. This show has a lot of science (Like cellular automata, the connection between the amygdala and the hippocampus and a bit of quantum physics) and while you can understand the show without them I think it will be more enjoyable if you do.
+DoYouHaveAName1 Or the subject of this show is simple : Narcolepsy
The author made a great job here.
It's true that Narcolepsy is a major subject in the show but can the Snark just be overlooked? Or the reason those artificial spirits wanted to live or how they were created? And who the Lord of One Word was. A major chunk of the show is around explaining conditions, syndroms, history and so on, I'm only guessing here but I believe one can get bored if s\he is not interested in these (Untill the action starts anyways) and maybe it might get confusing too. The show revolves around Narcolepsy but touches other subjects too. I understood most of the subjects talked there (Me and quantum physics don't go well together but I was already familiar with the medicine stuff) and really enjoyed this anime.
I HATE those dvd/blu-ray whatever boxes... they are so HORRID :(
But the show? Eh well it is from Lain influence eh..eeh :! I like Lain but ..erm? What is it about again?
3:28 except that one time where the show denies that fossil fuels connect to climate change.
Perhaps that's just outdated though, I mean, the show is from 2008.
The show tends to fall into superstitious rambling in general though.
I loved this anime though the ending seemed kinda rushed the rest was awesome
@Glass Reflection
Even if the subtitles aren't perfect or 100% accurate, I'd rather have that , than bad dub's any time of day. Most english dub's usually sound either really bad or very off/flat in terms of voice performance compared to the original Japanese voice acting in my opinion. There's very few English dubs that I think are actually pretty good. And I have some I like but that's not alot in comparison to the many original Japanese voice acting performances that I like. The only dubs I like are : 1.) Cowboybepop, 2.) Fullmetal Alchemist/Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood 3.) Casshern Sins 4.) Ergo Proxy. But that's it . The rest sounds very awkward or very bad in dub in my opinion.
@Glass Reflection
Most Anime D.V.D's from Japan from what I've seen, look pretty good. Their collector edition D.V.D's or Digital Remasters look pretty stunning usually in my opinion. Not only great cover art, but genuinely nice looking D.V.D cases as well. I also love how they will even include an artbook, art prints (etc) for the set itself. I love Anime and Manga artbooks. Especially of older series .
@Glass Reflection
Idk how different the Japanese D.VD's are for Ghost Hound compared to it's U.S. release counterpart. I am curious. I plan on researching into it. I want to try buying the Japanese D.V.D's of it, specifically a D.V.D boxset or collectors edition if such D.V.D exists for this series in Japanese.
Come on the bobble heads from princess monoke (might of spelt that wrong) are adorable:3
I just finished watching this show and I like it! Good review! I understand how you feel about the ghost babies. I was thrown off by that too. I think the reason that the creators made them ghost babies was to represent that the characters were "newborns" in the Unseen Realm. Their ghost forms did mature as the series progressed. BTW, thank you for ending the review with Poltergeist. That song rocks!
@Glass Reflections
I personally love Ghost Hound. It's one of my favorite Anime next to Texhnolyze honestly.
This is one of the best anime to me! Very Interesting.
So i just found out about u today, and ur reviews seem pretty good so far. Till i saw this and heard u tell everyone to buy ghost hound. I honestly would NOT recommend buying this if someone is looking for a GOOD anime. it was cool in the beginning, i really was interested. but then the bobble heads came out and the show became shit. not necessarily because of the bobble heads, but because of the story tht followed soon after. the idea of the show was cool, but they jumped around with the genres too much (horror, psychological, supernatural, somewhat romance, etc.) and didnt quite balance it out between the episodes. towards the end it became really rushed and sloppy. i did like music though. btw, they showed scenes in OP tht looked like they would be in the show but actually didnt make any kind of appearences in it.
the OBE forms could be explained as cortical homunculi manifesting themselves. in which case there was a possibility that they could have been way uglier
it was one of the most boring animes ive seen actually, the beginning was pretty good, but almost half of the anime looks like a filler because the story goes veery slow.and i kinda predicted the ending, wich was a dissappointment fo me.
but yeah it's personal taste.
if you want a psychological anime i recommend steins gate, kaiji (both season,if you dont have alot of time, watch the first arcs of both season, they're the best)
You're not joking about the case? That is the worst way to package DVDs I've ever seen. Don't they get scratched? There's no excuse, as you show with the Cowboy Bebop case.
I don't even like the cases where just one disc is on top of the other, and swapped out my Toward the Terra layered case for a case of the same size that enables me to pull out any disc without having to take out one disc first. Six unlayered discs, one case as slim as a single DVD case.
this anime sum it all up, after watching, u kinda wonder why you need other horror animes... lol... but, there we goes...
Hey, i've heard that the original team that made Serial Experiments Lain (Ryutaro Nakamura, Yoshitoshi Abe, Chiaki Konaka) were working on a new anime "Despera". But it was cancelled. Does anyone know if the anime will be released any time soon, or the project was shut down forever???
Interesting review not bad at all; though I was a bit confused by "Buy it!" followed by "this may not be for everyone". Little bit of a mixed signal but hopefully people are smart enough to realize their own tastes and based on what you mentioned gauge if it's a go or not.
but but, don't you like the bobble headed creatures from princess monanoke? i want em ALL XD to just cuddle and prance around with ahhhhhhughhhhhh so adorableeeee -exuse my fangirlness- ^^
the bobble head freak things desine kinda remind of a gamecube game called geist. look it up. doesn't it?
I dislike mech animes I like more sci-fi supernatural animes that involve little to no combat, with max narrative. Like Mushi-Shi, ghost hound, etc.
I put the show on hold at episode 9, since I had other stuff to watch, I enjoy it, but i can't really marathon it since it can be kinda boring.
Let me just say that the Elfen Lied stuff made me fall out of my chair the first time I saw it.
Good review though, spindal cases suck!
I'm pretty sure the original out of body forms are supposed to be "embryonic", thus the weird, baby-like appearance. No idea why their heads are so huge though.
why.... WHY DOESNT THIS HAVE MORE THUMBS UP.
to those of you who want a mindfuck watch FMA the movie if that dosent give u a mf then watch all of fma brotherhood
Ghost in the shell please
Although I agree with the ending side, are you sure it wasn't you who missed the anime? I mean, you should rewatch the final parts,or as a whole actually because then it wouldn't have too much sense, to really get what the series is about. 'Deteriorates' is like the opposite of what you can say about the development in Ghost Hound,it's just what makes it awesome.Honestly, rewatch, reanalize, rethink this series from beginning to end.
Future Dairy's first opening is good enough but here's too much of blood in there. I mean it comes out from everywhere, even from the very bloodless things like toys and shit and that's pretty annoying. Just too much of red color to take. But song is great to listen, that's true.
I like Trinity Blood opening kinda the most becouse song is too fucking nice (though anime itself sucks so badly I hate it).
I hate those cases cuz I've accidentally broken discs cuz of it
I saw this anime five years ago, I don't remember much but I remember disliking it. Back then I wrote "to see if you have nothing elese to watch"
See....I was with you till the ending. I've watched a majority of your reviews, (I'm subscribed) but this one I just wasn't with you. At the end I felt like the writers were just like..."slap something down we're running out of time." Comparing this anime to Ghost Hunt is sorta insulting. I still respect your opinion though and will keep watching.
Dude, I love your reviews and all but why all the hate for One Piece? Yeah, yeah, you explained your deal with the big 3, but is it really fair to assume a show is crap or not engaging before watching it yourself?
Aside from that though... would you recommend Ghost Hound subbed or dubbed? You said the dub is average but... you never commented on the Japanese talents.
I saw Texhnolyze, I liked it, but I only gave it a 6/10. I'd recommend Boogiepop Phantom for a good mindfuck anime. Or if you can watch the whole thing of Mawaru Penguindrum and still understand it, (well "I" did; but apparently not many other people understood it.)
I see that you have already done reviews on Lain, Evangelion, Ergo Proxy etc...
I did like this anime, and it was good to me... but at the time of watching it, I wasn't exactly watching an anime to be "into" it I was watching as a light-hearted pass-time, so I didn't get the full effect. Maybe I'll do another run through while actually paying attention, rather than doing laundry and cleaning in the living room.
wow 1st time i disagree with you. always with respect I am glad you enjoyed this anime. I found it trite and BOOORING as hell! again that is just my OP. maybe i should watch it again just to make sure. Only prob i cringe just looking at the box, it is on my sell immediately pile. keep up the rocking reviews brother! just didnt with respect agree with you on this one.
adooooooored ghost hound liked the review but then yiu had to go and put one piece in the same sentence with K-on. granted the anime sucks ( especially lately it should be cancled but..) but in the respect of the masterpiece that the manga is in its own right i think it shldn't be put in the same category as shit like k-on or bleach.
try shiki... it does a good job setting up a eery mood... though I think the first 2/3 would be classified as a psychological thriller but when the climax comes about you an say its horrorish I do not want to spoil anything just watch it...
i am laughing so hard at when Arkada is ranting about the DVD case because in germany actually 90% of all DVD boxes (anime and Live action as well as non japanaese series) are like this and it's a pain in the ass but you get used to it
I have seen the bottom half of the poster at 11:25 in several of his videos, but I never would have thought that it was a poster of God herself. To be honest I thought that it was Leafa, don't know why, but I think it was the green.
I agree it was very thought prevoking. The only (3) thing(s) is that it should have had the ghost hound in there more, that the kid who OBE's in his dumbass pajamas was never introduced, and the bobbly heads never came in. Oh and more ghost hound appearances.
I just remembered this anime exists! One of my most favorite ever!
Have to give this one a resounding meh but at least its not serial experiments radio static.
You are like Bill Murray funny in this video man 🤣🤣
do not insult princess mononoke. that is all. the forest spirits were cool, man
Yeah, that's one fine anime. But I kinda hate sound director or whoever becouse of all that wierd noises all along that claimed to be creepy but were actually like crapy. Though opening song is so fucking good!
Steins gate kinda mind fucks you, if you aren't paying attention and remember everything they say. They explain SO MUCH that its almost impossible to get mind fucked by that anime but either way still recommend it.
Have you reviewed that old show that's loosely based off of the 16th century French nobleman who wore dresses, and solves the mystery of his sisters death in the anime (and does so while occasionally dressing like a woman)?
Man you like beating to depth about how much you hate those disc boxes but I like it :D
Have you ever watched Higurashi no Koro ni/kia? It is one of my favorite series and is one of the creepiest series I have ever watched.
I don't know. I dropped the series after 2-3 Episodes. It wasn't appealing to me at all. Gave of the same feeling as Another and I didn't like that one either.
On a side note I liked watching Ghost Hunt.
@shionthedemon2345 Animation is not bad. The series started in 1999. first couple of arcs are going to be not that good. If you just forget about animation and accept art style, it`s one of the best anime.
I know now why future arkada warns past arkada about pink hair because when he finished the review of elfin leid he's gonna review SCHOOL DAYS! next which an anime he hated. XD
@DreamMarko i partially read the manga but the animation is CRAAAAAAAP! i havent watched past the first few episodes but it has one of the worst animation ive ever seen.
Seriously, why couldn't they just have the old stand-by for spirits? Slightly shorter, semi-transperant blue-ish characters? Oh, and the "RAGE." was hilarious.
Is the D2 Brigade podcast still available?
Please do not waste time on case's there are people watching you from different countries and do have good case for DVD so that is irrelevant
you dont like one piece?
awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww i fucking love it
why dont you like one piece its not generic and its not KO-ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WATCH MUSHISHI......now... like right now. it will change your life.
Ive seen worse cases, I bought Autodesk Inventor, and the disk holder was so bad, I actually broke one of the disks while trying to remove it.
That's nothing. You ever buy a dvd with no disc holder? On several occasions (cookie jar sets mostly) I've opened the case to find a bunch of sqare envelopes. Each one containing a dvd
Can you review a few long series animes? I know it's rare but I think you might have watched even just a few episodes right.
