I think that will happen as mercury COO was on TV in 3rd quarter on last regular season game and was just gushing about her. It almost seemed a bit passive aggressive towards Diggings-Smith (that is how I saw it)
I understand what your saying and agree for most part. My only reservations is that the league can't afford to increase the pay scale. We all know in every sport once a player gets the richest contract the next player wants to top their numbers and it gets out of hand like in baseball or even NBA. Unfortunately if not for the $ the NBA gives the WNBA the league would be bankrupt. Not sure how but the commissioner needs to get more eyes on that game both in person and on TV so they can get better TV deals and sponsor deals.

Really it's to imagine someone who plays her style with all that hustle and intensity would like a player as soft as baby shit and is known for quitting on teammates several times. It's a shame really cause with LeBron God given talent, ability and size if he had the desire he wouldn't be such a lightening rod for the fans. Fans either love him or absolutely hate him. The saddest part is how LeBron and this joke commissioner has killed the ratings and attendance numbers. And yes I can put it on LeBron. He wanted be face of league and wants take credit in something he thinks he's done to improve something for the league so he gets questions when something goes bad. And when next TV deal comes up and networks look at targeted demo numbers on cable or streaming it might make deal worse not to mention sponsorships. These guys are getting 30, 40 or 50 million a yr because of the leagues growth in the 90s and early 00s. But 40% of fans have left because this generation of players demand a trade if the slightest thing hurts their fragile feelings and then they brought political stuff onto the actual court and jerseys. So your saying a player(male or female) with a high motor that constantly going 100% and is their team's best scorer and is not scared to be physical while driving ball or playing D isn't well liked by in conference rivals. Hmmm shocking. In any sport if there's a player that is a do it all type player and is beloved by coaches, teammates and fans for being what some call a dawg(it's a compliment) there are gonna be other people that try to throw insults and try to blow anything they can out of proportion. Big difference from incidental contact and being dirty. Liz Cambage is a straight up dirty player. Sophie is type of player I would tell my kids to try play that hard son or daughter. You show game film of her diving to ground for loose balls because she's one of the best scorers on team. Reminds me of a certain PG that played for UCONN yrs ago and in my opinion on the mount rushmore of female ballers, Diana Taurasi.
