Although I have never seen Wicked on Broadway, I have been watching videos of different Elphabas and I can proudly say that Willemijn is the best Elphaba singing wise and also acting wise. PERIODT.
It is such an experience believe me :) I saw the Australia run in 2011, 2015!
I've heard it said that "there are singers who can act, and actors who can sing", and I agree that she's one of the latter.... dig up some of the compilation videos of her over the years, 3 different languages and 4 different countries over a 10-year timespan.... she is definitely most comfortable in her native Dutch, but seems to be more confident over the years, especially after hitting the "Thousander club", playing Elphaba for 1000 performances - the fact that she can do it in her sleep and no one is going to give her any crap if she improvises make her much more relaxed.... Other good videos are any with the last performance for any of her co-stars - she has "retired" more Glindas than anyone else, and the little things she does for them on the final show are so touching, the "ballgown" and "good witch hat" Populars are my faves.....
Willemijn is the best Elphaba ever. Period.

Weird Monster the beauty is that many people outside the Netherlands who are “Wicked” fans follow Ms. Verkaik. So a lot of us know she voiced Elsa in Frozen. I’ve even watched her in shows such as “Elizabeth” a show I wouldn’t have heard of if it weren’t for my interest in her. I watch clips of her in it even though I don’t understand German. Send people say that rockstar Eddie Van Halen is a remarkable Dutch music personality. For me it’s Willemijn! I became aware of her when she opened in the German production of “Wicked” and have followed her since..

I LOVE how her motions make her takeoff seem impromptu and urgent, idk what about it it’s just fantastic.
Personally, Willemijn sounds better in Dutch than English, so much more comfortable and just amazing
I like the German best because German is a more musical language than Dutch.
She's always a bit less comfy in English because she tries to blend in accent wise, you can hear this especially in the London versions, it sounds a tad forced (although she comes close to an English accent for a Dutchwoman). In German and Dutch she has more natural accents. She also does them accentless, that is to say Dutch is Dutch and German is German, she doesn't do a special Northern accent or anything , like in English where she does a very conscious British or American.
Also the German translation is a gazillion times better than the Dutch
Shes from Holland as well, so dutch is her native language and she'll sound better.
Ik zou er echt alles aan doen om deze musical nog één keer te zien. Ik hou van deze musical!

I didn't like that Glinda very much but my god Willemijn Verkaik is a very good Elphaba!
Céline Purcell has been doomed to be the eternal understudy of Chantal Janzen, but she is amazing. Hilarious, great actress, and a much better singer than Chantal. Chantal's comic timing is better than Céline, but she makes up for it big time.

Helaas is de musical gestopt in Nederland maar ik ging op vakantie naar de Engeland en daar heb ik heb gezien

Ik heb liever chantal. Céline spreekt het meer uit als of ze aan het voorlezen is en Chantal stopt er meer emotie in vindt ik. Maar ieder zijn mening
K vind celine niet geweldig (ik ben een Chantal stan hahaha) maar willemijn is echt de beste elphaba ever
Ik ben een enorm fan van chantal, maar ik vond celine toch net iets beter als glinda. Chantal had zelf aangegeven dat haar vocal range niet zo hoog lag als die van glina dus je hoorde haar vaak struggelen maar alsnog was ze super goed tho
@@tommietomba2865 Vond vocaal Chantal het minst maar qua acteren en comedic timing echt het allersterkst by far. Ianthe het sterkst vocaal en ook comedic timing maar minder geloofwaardig, Céline ook sterk vocaal en wel geloofwaardig maar dan weer iets minder grappig. En dan heb je Keet... Tbf Glinda is een enorm lastige rol, ze klonk ook goed, tikte alle beats maar hoe zij het karakter neerzette was erg ongeloofwaardig en de comedic timing was niet persee slecht maar ook niet goed.
