- Willemijn Verkaik tijdens de sing-a-long 2011 (Uitmarkt). Ze zingt voor het eerste de Nederlandse vertaling van Defying Gravity ' Ik Lach Om Zwaartekracht' uit de musical Wicked. Wicked ging op 6 november in premiere in het Circustheater in Scheveningen met o.a. Willemijn Verkaik (Elphaba), Chantal Janzen (G(a)linda) en Jim Bakkum (Fiyero).

There's just something so amazing and inspirational about an actress being so talented in a role that she not only performs it in her native country and a nearby country, but she becomes so well known that they invite her to play the part on broadway AND west end as well.

Funny how i don't speak a single word dutch but it is so easily understandable if u know german and english. Awesome voice!
That's because English, Dutch and German are closely related to each other.
I don't understand the language, but she arguably is the best Elphaba... her voice is perfect for the role, the belting is so powerful and yet it doesn't sound irritating.
Jesus Christ, she's good man. Proud to be Dutch. Jup. Kinda wished I'd seen this musical.. :(

The best thing that ever happened to me was probably seeing her perform wicked in germany. It was more than 10 years ago but to this day her performance lives rend free in my head. I wish I could see her perform again :(
I will admit that Idina probably couldn't even hang on the last rwo notes that she did here.

Beautiful! It's so funny to read that people find Dutch to be a harsh language. I don't think that at all. People are just not used to hearing the 'g,' but I find that, even listening to people speaking Dutch, it sounds very fluid (especially when comparing it to German).
Idk why, I'm American and I have always loved Dutch and German, but everyone around me says they're ugly languages.
I think both are as beautiful as my mother language (bengali)

Willemijn actually sang (or still sings?) in the london musical, and she sang on broadway I am pretty sure you can find an english (and even a german) version now

Autisme, faalangst en gebrek aan sociale vaardigheden zorgen ervoor dat ik liever helemaal niets doe dan het risico dat ik faal of domme dingen zou doen in de schijnwerpers...

Im Dutch and a HUGE Wicked fan. After seeing the London show 2 seasons in a row I was excited but afraid the Dutch version would not be up to par with the English versions. How wrong I was, the whole translation of the musical was uberbrilliant.
I just gotta say, I'm Dutch, and this translation is actually really good!

In Germany she was great, here in Holland she was awesome. I hope she will do the English version justice and that the American musical public will discover her talent. Cause she is really great!

dude i freakin' love this woman. she really gets into ur heart with those incredible vocals and great acting :) I saw her in the NYC show and simply left speechless from the Gershwin Theater. She is a powerhouse and I wish her all the best to come

We just saw her in London this week and she was AMAZING! A delightful performance :)
Saw her debut on Broadway in New York. Phenomenal performance. There is no other way to put it: Willemijn is simply amazing, both as an actor and a singer. In fact, it almost seems wrong to call her an actor: it was so natural, I felt as if Elphaba was truly a real person with whom I could connect and sympathize with. Immense kudos to Willemijn.
I can't get over how much I love her.
Last Sunday I went to Wicked and I was so lucky, I had Willemijn, Chantal and Jim. I've watched the entire show with a big smile on my face. It was incredible !! I'm with my head in the clouds. I've fallen in love with Wicked, or more specific: Willemijn!! For me, she is the best Elphaba ever !
Whoever did the subtitles; 'Aaaahhhh!' doesn't even get close to it!

Been reading the discussion below about translations... I am a translator myself and on the whole, I think Martine (the translator) did a good job. I saw the Dutch production first and loved it. I only heard the original version afterwards. Without translation the show would not have been the success in the Netherlands that it is. Original lyrics are always better but that does not mean translations are bad. I love the Dutch show and I agree Willemijn is the no. 1 Elphaba of the world! #fan4life

@theatresofty she played in Germany for 3 years. She also played the english version for a short time. Now she is the Dutch Elphaba. She is Dutch. I stood next to the stage while this was sung and it was amazing...
