There's just something so amazing and inspirational about an actress being so talented in a role that she not only performs it in her native country and a nearby country, but she becomes so well known that they invite her to play the part on broadway AND west end as well.
I don't understand the language, but she arguably is the best Elphaba... her voice is perfect for the role, the belting is so powerful and yet it doesn't sound irritating.
"Nooit meer een grens aanvaarden, omdat die grens daar is" is mijn favoriete zin, ironisch genoeg net omdat het exact is wat ik al heel mijn leven aan het doen ben. Autisme, faalangst en gebrek aan sociale vaardigheden zorgen ervoor dat ik liever helemaal niets doe dan het risico dat ik faal of domme dingen zou doen in de schijnwerpers...
Im Dutch and a HUGE Wicked fan. After seeing the London show 2 seasons in a row I was excited but afraid the Dutch version would not be up to par with the English versions. How wrong I was, the whole translation of the musical was uberbrilliant.
Beautiful! It's so funny to read that people find Dutch to be a harsh language. I don't think that at all. People are just not used to hearing the 'g,' but I find that, even listening to people speaking Dutch, it sounds very fluid (especially when comparing it to German).
she makes me feel dutch pride en ik ben duits lmao ik leer Nederlands though and i'm really enjoying it!!! also i am aware of the fact that i am six years late to the party here :D
The best thing that ever happened to me was probably seeing her perform wicked in germany. It was more than 10 years ago but to this day her performance lives rend free in my head. I wish I could see her perform again :(
dude i freakin' love this woman. she really gets into ur heart with those incredible vocals and great acting :) I saw her in the NYC show and simply left speechless from the Gershwin Theater. She is a powerhouse and I wish her all the best to come
We just saw her in London this week and she was AMAZING! A delightful performance :)

In Germany she was great, here in Holland she was awesome. I hope she will do the English version justice and that the American musical public will discover her talent. Cause she is really great!
Willemijn actually sang (or still sings?) in the london musical, and she sang on broadway I am pretty sure you can find an english (and even a german) version now
Last Sunday I went to Wicked and I was so lucky, I had Willemijn, Chantal and Jim. I've watched the entire show with a big smile on my face. It was incredible !! I'm with my head in the clouds. I've fallen in love with Wicked, or more specific: Willemijn!! For me, she is the best Elphaba ever !
Been reading the discussion below about translations... I am a translator myself and on the whole, I think Martine (the translator) did a good job. I saw the Dutch production first and loved it. I only heard the original version afterwards. Without translation the show would not have been the success in the Netherlands that it is. Original lyrics are always better but that does not mean translations are bad. I love the Dutch show and I agree Willemijn is the no. 1 Elphaba of the world! #fan4life
Saw her debut on Broadway in New York. Phenomenal performance. There is no other way to put it: Willemijn is simply amazing, both as an actor and a singer. In fact, it almost seems wrong to call her an actor: it was so natural, I felt as if Elphaba was truly a real person with whom I could connect and sympathize with. Immense kudos to Willemijn.
So excited that Willemijn is coming to Broadway and this time doing the show in English. She's the first actress to have played the role in 3 different languages.
I’m no linguist but she makes an otherwise very harsh sounding language, on its own, in context, sound like the most beautiful thing anyone could sing. I cried listening to this. She’s so phenomenal. Wow. Makes me wanna learn Dutch. Is that the language she was singing in? I thought it was German at first. Again, not a linguist lol
@theatresofty she played in Germany for 3 years. She also played the english version for a short time. Now she is the Dutch Elphaba. She is Dutch. I stood next to the stage while this was sung and it was amazing...
So sad she has to stop in Wicked London, because of her injury! Hope to see her soon back at the production!! The announcement stands at the website of London Wicked UK, News and Reviews ......
When I saw it this past March, she was still doing the Broadway cast but sadly absent that day. DONNA VIVINO (Standby) went on that night. Hope Willemijn comes back to the Broadway cast after London!!
I have a dutch friend who I went to school with and she even said that German and Dutch are pretty similar languages. For an English speaker with limited knowledge of both languages you can understand my error.
I went yesterday to Wicked, I had Chantal, willemijn AND Jim, it was incredible! Willemijn was great, beautiful voice! Chantal was not so good yesterday, I think she had a cold or something? I know she can do better, I've seen her in Tarzan also.
There's just something so amazing and inspirational about an actress being so talented in a role that she not only performs it in her native country and a nearby country, but she becomes so well known that they invite her to play the part on broadway AND west end as well.
AssortedJade This is Dutch because of her I'm actually pretty proud to be Dutch.
Danara De Jong yes, and she also performed in German.
Sometimes a new shining star has awakened.
damn....her eyes look amazing when she's painted green....
Not that they look bad even when she is not!
I don't understand the language, but she arguably is the best Elphaba... her voice is perfect for the role, the belting is so powerful and yet it doesn't sound irritating.
Funny how i don't speak a single word dutch but it is so easily understandable if u know german and english. Awesome voice!
That's because English, Dutch and German are closely related to each other.
"Nooit meer een grens aanvaarden, omdat die grens daar is" is mijn favoriete zin, ironisch genoeg net omdat het exact is wat ik al heel mijn leven aan het doen ben. Je kan het sowieso, neem die sprong!
I will admit that Idina probably couldn't even hang on the last rwo notes that she did here.
+Daniel Field the dutch proud for the musical world HAHA
Stunning. Absolutely stunning.
Also I'm in love with how happy and amazed the girl in the audience looks at 2:56.
Oh yes!
Im Dutch and a HUGE Wicked fan. After seeing the London show 2 seasons in a row I was excited but afraid the Dutch version would not be up to par with the English versions. How wrong I was, the whole translation of the musical was uberbrilliant.

Idk why, I'm American and I have always loved Dutch and German, but everyone around me says they're ugly languages.
I think both are as beautiful as my mother language (bengali)
Jesus Christ, she's good man. Proud to be Dutch. Jup. Kinda wished I'd seen this musical.. :(
***** same, missed it too :(
she makes me feel dutch pride en ik ben duits lmao
ik leer Nederlands though and i'm really enjoying it!!!

Her voice is SO beautiful!!! And I can't get over her gorgeous green eyes!!!! Ohh my goodness!!!!
She has the same stage presence and commands just as much attention as if this were the full stage production. She's incredible.
Me using Wicked to learn Dutch? More likely than you think xD
@NICK IS SLICK oef that isn’t dutch it is from Belgium😂
@NICK IS SLICK everything from studio 100 is From Belgium it’s almost Simalair but not the same

I don't understand a word but it's so much better sung than the english version... Congrats. Netherland = 12 points :)
Willemijn actually sang (or still sings?) in the london musical, and she sang on broadway I am pretty sure you can find an english (and even a german) version now
The most beautifull Elphada. I understand why the prince choose her.
Prince? You mean Fiyero...not a prince...
LaurieTombRaiderFan Fiyero was a prince of the Vinkus ;)
wow I feel stupid >_< sorry it's been 6 years since I saw Wicked.
That last part was bad ass! I love her!

I just gotta say, I'm Dutch, and this translation is actually really good!
echt hé. Geweldig vertaald
No idea what she was saying but i started to cry
FISHURMOMBALL its her voice...i have the same...always crying when she sings this
I smile in the face of gravity....
This makes it even stronger....it is like saying gravity has got nothing on me....
I can't get over how much I love her.
Whoever did the subtitles; 'Aaaahhhh!' doesn't even get close to it!
Saw her debut on Broadway in New York. Phenomenal performance. There is no other way to put it: Willemijn is simply amazing, both as an actor and a singer. I didn't understand a word she said but that was AMAZING!!
I don't know why 56 people dislike this video, It is the best performance that I have ever seen. ✨
Outstanding, uitstekend und ausgezeichnet!
So excited that Willemijn is coming to Broadway and this time doing the show in English. She's the first actress to have played the role in 3 different languages.
Wow! She is fantastic!!! I love the huge orchestra!

She knows German, Dutch and English!! ;)
hope they'll make the movie version of wicked with Willemijn as Elphaba
Amazing, i love her voice and performance.
It's that face at the end that makes me fall in love with her!
She's Dutch! Hello! And she's AWESOME! Willemijn is my favorite Elphaba and always will be!
Finally....FINALLY....she will play Elphaba on Broadway! I've been saying we need her over here for years!
Amazing. Dutch and German are definitely my favorite languages.
sorry, Idina-fans - I have loved and listened to this sung by Idina hundreds of times but this ist the best version I have ever seen yet!
Idk if it's bc I'm biased or not but she's the best Elpheba in my opinion. I saw her live about 8 years ago and I've never been the same tbh
RIP Willemijn Verkaik's Portrayal of Elphaba, 2007-2014
what do u mean by RIP? She's alive, right? (a little worryed now)! :(
Shes alive, shes retired as Elphaba/
+DragonPride699 she still plays the musical on Broadway😊 She has been doing it for almost 9 years
she's returning to West End in January for 6 months!
She's coming back :)
I’m no linguist but she makes an otherwise very harsh sounding language, on its own, in context, sound like the most beautiful thing anyone could sing. I cried listening to this. She’s so phenomenal. When I saw it this past March, she was still doing the Broadway cast but sadly absent that day. DONNA VIVINO (Standby) went on that night. Hope Willemijn comes back to the Broadway cast after London!!
Just wow. The last 'ah' looks so effortless!
She's the best Elphaba that I've seen! Her face suits "evil" characters (in a best way)
She's taking over as Elphie on Broadway in February 2013!!! I need to go to NYC.
A generational voice talent.
best voice ever for elphaba! incredible, incredible!

This is freaking amazing. Better than anyone on Broadway whose done it, I'd say.
this is so beautiful!
@OneSongGlory8 That's part of the Dutch promotional poster from Wicked :) The eyes are from the actors playing Elphaba, Glinda and Fiyero.
2:56 Beautiful song and beautiful face! :)
I went yesterday to Wicked, I had Chantal, willemijn AND Jim, it was incredible! Willemijn was great, beautiful voice! Chantal was not so good yesterday, I think she had a cold or something? I know she can do better, I've seen her in Tarzan also.
Wow ik luf dit lied!
God, the notes are like twice as long as other versions I've seen. I'm fucking blown away!

I ♥ her!!! Willemijn is geweldig!!!
Supermooie stem!
