  • "Euronaut" is a private project of a research and diver support submarine around Carsten Standfuss - a German naval architect. It has been designed between 1988 and 2000. Then it took another 12 years to build it on holidays, weekends and after work. Most systems on board are second hand and homebuilt.
The sub has overall length of 16 m (52 ft), surface displacement of 57 tons and is capable of diving up to 250 m (820 ft).
Transit speed is up to 6 knots with a 190 hp diesel engine. Electric drive measures 40 kW.
The life support system provides air for the crew of six persons for a week. The diving chamber allows saturation dives to the depths similar to the operational depth of the submarine.

What the world needs is a military size submarine with windows and scientific instruments that has enough room for scientists to live on fairly comfortable for months at at time so they can study the ocean and the great depths for long periods at a time.

@@mbukukanyau I'm making fun of Germans. All the people with the German nationality don't know how to have fun if it's not by working. You know, the good ol' joke about them. Like, it's a pretty comon thing for Germans to build a submarine.
Using "German people", is a kind of emphasis : The people of Germany as one entity, share a common hobby, building submarines in theyr spare time.
I'm not a native english speaker, after all. So maybe, what I tryed to say in my joke, have better way to express it, and my kind of emphasis is not working as I intended.

wait, how in the world has this only got 288 likes? This thing is absolutely amazing! My Grandfather was a tin-smith and moonshine still maker in the applachian mountains. I remember one night he woke me up (drunk on moonshine) and told me that he was building me my personal submarine.... I was like 5 years old. I waited for years without daring pester him about the progress he was making.... Eventually I realized grandpa was a big drunk and probably forgot by the next morning hahaha.... Definitely makes my day to see people who actually got their sub, even if they built it themselves :-)

To the North-West sits The Kingdom of Norway, the North-East sits The Kingdom of Sweden, all have their Royal Navy's going up and down the Scandinavian Sea to the Wadden-Sea into the North-Sea.
Not to mention all kinds of ships going trough there from the Republic of Poland and of course from the Russian Federation.
Try and float a dingy there and it will attract the attention of a plethora of different Navy's,....not to mention operating a submarine there commercial or otherwise.

Build one that looks like a submarine, has huge windows, a big sail and stays in the service. Keep it in Key Largo for tourists to visits the reefs.
It doesn’t have to “dive”, the reefs are only 40 feet deep and the water is crystal clear.

That has to be the best amateur built sub I've seen.

Pretty darn good if i must say so myself. Are these guys engineers? They must be. I hope they bring it to the U.S., i'd love to see it in person.

+Richard Turner. Most are engineers, some not.
The sub was designed for coastal areas and can't handle higher sea states. I don't see how we could make a transatlantic voyage with it.

Thank you. I'd really like to see this submarine. Could they put it on a cargo ship and transport it across the Atlantic?

    • @Wrackzeichner
      @Wrackzeichner  8 ปีที่แล้ว

+Richard Turner, the sub is a low-budget Hobby project. It weights over 60 tons. Such a transport would cost many thousands dollars a take a lot of time.

That's too bad. You can purchase tourist subs, but they cost over a million dollars. Now if i could get a business loan and purchase one.... Down here in Florida it would probably be profitable with all the tourists and great underwater sights for non divers to see.

+Richard Turner Euronaut is absolutely not suited for touristic purposes. It has no windows and you have to be skilled enough to use the diving chamber.

Wow... INCREDIBLE! I can't belive the submarine even has technologies onboard! I bet you will never stop using it!! :D
P.S. Good Luck with other sea operations.
