      Maybe. I remember the saddest, scariest parts being very affecting. But it's worth noting that if it were a Black Mirror episode, it would never have all the unfunny faffing about that pads the movie and gets in the way of all that. No overlong colour-changing in the car, no farting in the boss's mouth. Just, y'know, the actual good part.

    *Reign Over Me* is in my opinion one of the best 9/11-related movies ever made specifically BECAUSE it focuses so little on the tragedy itself and more on the aftermath of how it shaped Sandler's character into who he is vs who he was.
    It was one of the first films I saw as a child that not only made me understand how serious PTSD & grief are but how it can change and potentially destroy relationships between loved ones. It was eye-opening for my young, innocent self.
    I never once laughed at Sandler's character, even when humor was intended, which I previously never thought could happen. That's how heavily his loss and performance hit me. Overall, it's my 100% favorite of his few dramatic roles.

      Just shows Sandler can act outside comedy if he can get acting classes to expand his career. He focused too much on comedy that feels he is still stuck with SNL. Him as a professional actor has the potential to be a pretty good actor but just needs someone to help him improve. Many actors and actresses like Sophia Coppola realized shes better behind the camera than in front of it.
      And you do have actors and actresses that can excell in different genres like Nichelson back in the day. Many people forget one of his 1st movie roles was the plants 1st victim in the original black and white version of little shop of horrors.

      NY native here, so, one instance I was walking home from Grand Street (lower Manhattan) and I had mistakenly walked right through a supposed movie set/scene, I was listening to my mp3 player (late 2000s) and totally had no idea I just barged on set (you all know the movie). Sandler, who was not in make-up/wardrobe catches up with me, totally nice and professional and asked if I knew who he was, if I was a fan, etc. Legit had a 5-10 min convo kicking the shit before asking his PR to leave me in as an extra. I didn't get paid, nor did I ask or wanted to. Long story short, Sandler is a solid, authentic guy, so it always tickles me to see NC shit on his BAD movies because, yeah, I'm sure Sandler would honestly tell you they were garbage too.

    Adam Sandler is a perplexing actor in my opinion. When he's good, he's very good. When he's bad, he's god awful. I love him, but he has such a rollercoaster of a career. So much so, that one of my favorite performances he's done in recent years was a cameo on a Disney channel show, because one of his kids was a big fan. I kinda want him to pursue TV more. No the really bad laugh track comedies, but something on like HBO, where it's a drama with comedic moments.

      When a stepson and I were going to see *Pixels*, regarding if it was good, he shrugged and said, "Hey, it's an Adam Sandler movie." It was only later, when thinking back on the movie, I'd thought how dumb or cringey a lot of it was. But *at the time*, I enjoyed what I was watching and felt entertained. So, mission accomplished, I guess.

    • @spencerhensley5495

      In a way I love that about Sandler. He kind of reminds me of Chevy Chase in that sense. He could make truly awful comedies but when he decides to stop and try something different he is excellent. Chase had that just playing his sarcastic constant self but when he abandoned that in the movie Funny Farm I found him to be an excellent comedic actor. Sandler is the same. When he tries stuff like Punch Drunk Love, Uncut Gems Meyrowitz Stories or Hustle he is very, very good. In those roles you wonder how he has not yet been nominated for an Oscar.

It was the very first movie to give me a tearjerker, and honestly it had a more original concept than what meets the eye- it wasn't just a "remote that forwards time", it came with literal "Universal effects", and had a good strong message about trying to push passed everything you found dull and boring in your life to just enjoy the best moments. That says a lot for a seemingly time-warping-based film ;/!!!

      I respect it as one of Sandler’s best, especially in the terms of his more emotional movies that I’ve seen. I think it was more the fact that it was commercialized as a full-fledge comedy movie while the actual movie was a dramady that left a bad taste in the mouths of some of the people who saw it and didn’t like it.

    • @VanessaMagick

      the bullshit twist at the end was terrible and the whole narrative they pushed doesnt make any sense, because adam sandler's character didn't fuck up his whole life by abusing his power, he fucked up his whole life because the remote control did shit adam sandler didnt want it to do.
      if the remote control wasnt broken, the film's message wouldnt work because everything would be fine

      i dont always agree with walker, but when i do i tend to fully endourse him
      a few things i dont agree with him on
      1: i heavily disagree with his white washing video as its making a big deal out of basically nothing(now adays) and he doesnt fully understand how movies and companies think, you have to keep in mind americans are mostly white with a few other races mixxed in, so it makes sense when you relaly stop and think about it, theres also the fact that his arguement like many others can be dismantled by askign the question, if scarlet got so much hate for taking the major role, why did the black dude who played borma get a free pass, is it not still taking a role away from asians
      2: his idea of slap stick, in my opinion this is heavily flawed as in his mind the purist form of comedy is pain at the expense of others, and while this might not be exactly wrong, it should be expanded on by saying that the character should deserve the punishment, that the audience should want that character punished for being stupid or evil, a good example is meg getting hurt vrs. petter getting hurt. ask your self, which do you find funnier, the character who had never done a thing wrong getting abused, or the character who constently acts like an arrogant, self centered asshole getting punished

    I'm surprised Click wasn't on this list. At first when I saw the reviews it didn't look great, but I gave it a watch and I come to find it is actually pretty fun and interesting, and very emotional at times especially the ending. I like the idea of something as simple as a TV remote (Much like how in Back To The Future we have the DeLorean DMC-12 Time Machine) being turned into a Time Controller. I'm guessing it is a good movie in your book but doesn't count towards the Top 11.

      I think 50 first dates is the perfect example of a Sandler film and you will like it depending on how tired you are of Sandler, if you discovered it as a kid like I do you will love it but if you discover it right now with an Adam Sandler making crappy film you will just find it mediocre. It's the Sandleriest film of his carrer according to me.

      Big Daddy is mostly-OK. I had some laughs and didn't hate it, cos I think he and the kid worked well together, and I can see the logic that a slacker man-child would use in dressing up as Scuba Steve to get a little kid he was unexpectedly saddled with to take a bath.
      I don't think it's quite as watchable, this many years later, as Airheads, though. I think Airheads generally aged pretty well, and now a lot of the funnier parts of Big Daddy have become a bit awkward, though not necessarily bad.

    Also, "click" i agree was very emotional. And I also kinda took it as a metaphor for substance abuse. For example, when you use for a long time then you get clean there is a moment when you realize "wow, 7 years of my life have just gone by... Wtf happened? How could I let my life become this?" And it really hits home for me because not only am I a recovering addict but I also am a licensed CDCA so my career is focused on helping others recovering from addiction. And I see so many connections to chronic substance abuse and that movie. Especially the sad parts. Like seeing how fast your life fell apart and how you barley know your loved ones anymore and how your children grow up so fast.... It's just all so very deep to me . But, I generally love any movie he does (with a few exceptions)... Adam Sandler we love your sillyness!!☺️ Don't listen to the haters!

    one thing I wish the Critic mentioned here was that the You Dont Mess with the Zohan was actually based off of a real person, and while the movie, obviously, was over exaggerated, people who knew the man personally said that Sandler's performance was actually pretty accurate. which shouldnt come as a surprise since Sandler actually met the guy and hung out with him for a while before filming so he could get his mannerisms down and work with him as a hairstylist.

    I find that adults are obsessed with the time period they grew up in, and that has always been the case. Back in the 80s, adults were obsessed with the 50s and 60s with surfing making a big comeback, movies like Back to the Future, bands like the Tomcats, etc.

      But it's not just adults though - I mean sure it's more leaning toward 90s culture now - but a lot of 80s fashion and 80s music are worn and listened to by teens. Think about it: Stranger Things, Drive and basically all of the crap movie remakes of today are based around the 80s!
      If you want examples of kids liking 50s stuff around the time of the 80s look at Grease, look at IT - and as mentioned before BACK TO THE FUTURE which is an incredible example.
      In essence it's very likely that in 20 years people will look at either the 2000s or the 2010s for fashion and music.

      it's really no different than how most of us want to work...just easier to work with a well-established formula and process and with the same people you've been working with than it is to take risks, try new things and work with new people. Especially when it relates to trying to make a "work of art," I know it's cliche and corny to say but good art is painful sometimes.

    I'm really surprised not to see Bid daddy or even Click, while they can have flat jokes and cringey at some parts, they're both heart warming, funny at some parts and the acting was really good. Especially click, I was crying at the scene where Adam Sandlers character has to see the last moment with his dad and could do nothing about it.

    I got to say that me and my dad went to the Chase Center to watch the Warriors playing basketball against the Pacers, and while that way happening, my dad and I saw Adam Sandler on the Jumbo Tron and it was awesome, no pun intended, to see Adam at the Warriors game and I heard that he was going to do a concert/comedy show on December 6th, AKA today! So, I guess it's all just some weird coincidence to say the least...he really does look like a cool guy as well!

    Anyone who didn't think he could get to 11 are ignorant of Sandlers talent. He's a genius. He's just a lazy as all fuck genius.Never have I seen an actor who puts out as many flops as him still get backhandedly complimented while being panned. I hear all the time how, after putting out a bad work, people say how he's wasting his talent. Not that he's talentless or that he's lost his touch, but that he isn't USING the gifts that he certainly does have. He's arguably the most respected consistently panned actor I've ever seen because of people saying things like that. And I have to kind of agree. His good movies (specifically the comedies as I haven't seen some of the few dramatic stuff he's done that was on this list) have me tearing up from laughing so much. I feel like I can't accept someone capable of what he's done simply being "not funny anymore" as much as it is him just not trying and/or caring anymore.
    I hope he finds his "muse" again someday.

    • @devilmikey00
      @devilmikey00 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ya he's basically been scamming hollywood for the last 15 years. He leverages his name and fame to get massive budgets for films then makes cheap horrible movies and uses most of the budget to pay himself and his friends ludicrous salaries. Hollywood doesn't care though because his movies still made money.
      When he finally had a few flops and couldn't get them to hand over 80 million dollars to pay himself and his friends he hopped over to netflix ;p

    • @chipbloch7775
      @chipbloch7775 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Let’s be real, though. If somebody offered you 80 million dollars to goof around with your buddies while half-assing [whatever your talent is], instead of putting in the substantial amount of effort to improve your talent and make far less money doing so, you’d most likely do it at least once or twice (I sure would). I don’t like seeing anyone waste their talent, but I can certainly see why he does it.
      I’m reminded of Michael Caine’s quote, when someone asked him if he’d seen Jaws 4, an absolutely horrible movie he acted it. “No, but I’ve seen the house it paid for, and it’s beautiful”.

    • @shino4242
      @shino4242 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I absolutely would, but i also assumed that he became a comedian/actor because he was apssionate about it. This isn't a 9-5 job that you have to do to make ends meet. This is, i assume, his dream job. How many people cna claim to be doing their dream job and doing what they love for a living? And he's stupid rich and famous ontop of that. THAT'S why it's sad. Yeah, most anybody would take 80 mil to dick around and not really try. I'm just picturing him wasting his dream is all.
      That and, as i said, I respect his talent. I'd personally like him to be remembered fondly and not as a has been.

      Honestly, I hated Click because here's the big thing.... Click is a movie that's full of all these dumb jokes and he slows down women running so he can stare at their boobs and changes his skin color and stuff and has all of this fart joke level stuff. But then it goes right into something that's not just dark, it's uncomfortably dark. There's a point in this movie where we watch a morbidly obese man start dying because he can't see his son do something while he's on life support. Adam Sandler is just living his life to death in just this incredibly depressing way.
      So it's really challenging and nihilistic and just unpleasant to get through. But whenever you want to get to that scene, you have to go through all these low brow jokes and cheap gags and those two things could not go together worse. It's sort-of like the Trigun problem where it's awkward to sit through the early comedy after knowing how deep and serious the rest of the series is, but here it's just made so much worse because it's a much higher extreme in both directions and it's all condensed down to a single movie.

    • @sandywolfr26
      @sandywolfr26 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      those dumb jokes is pretty realistic to anyone who got their hands on a remote to control their lives. yes there the fart level stuff but can you honestly tell me you won't use the slow down or rewind or color change buttons just to see what they do? yes it goes dark but that was the point. the guy who gave him the remote wanted him to learn a lesson about what is really important and about life in general. something he clearly needed to learn. though the low brow stuff was a bit much,especially the making of scene but it also what you expect lol. which is why it is in there.
