A couple of years ago, we did a road trip from Calgary to the west coast of Canada, going through the Rockies. We spent a couple of days in Kelowna which is, I agree, a beautiful place; I wanted to do a floatplane trip but we didn't have the time unfortunately. One of the things that amazed me was the climate - there are vineyards and soft fruit farms by the mile but you're still only an hour or so from skiing in the mountains. We also went to Victoria, on Vancouver Island, which is reputed to have the busiest seaplane port in the world, complete with its own airport style control tower. Amazing....
Cool Video.. Had a chance to do the same thing on the west coast of Vancouver Island this summer. This is what aviation is all about for us Canadian pilots. Love the sweet smell of Avgas!
Amazing video in an amazing part of the world. I've had the pleasure of a couple of float plane trips in Alaska flying on DH Beaver and Otter. That guy has the best job in the world.
Oh My Days Noel, you are flying toward the Canyon, turn hard left....NO...fly into the Canyon.....YIKES and that 2nd one was even scarier! Nice take offs and landings, what a great experience!
As Jeremy Clarkson would say, “A bit of poo has come out”, would be MY feeling going through those mountains like that. Stunning landscapes though and a great video.
Float Flying is great, you really need to fly something that isn't such a dog on floats! The 172 on floats is such a poor performer, the 185 is a solid floatplane, but if you get a chance to fly a 150HP Supercub on floats, you'll never want to fly a 172 on floats again!
Good to learn on though - a performer like a supercub will just haul itself up out of the water despite poor technique. Takeoff sure does happen slowly on that 172 though!
