Nah. It had a Disney-like happy ending that was shoehorned in there. A good ending would have been to actually show what a monster Disney is, kill off the main character like Disney does in real life, and move on.

I think this Black Mirror episode is similar to the story of Britney Spears. From the pink wig to the way the management team manipulates her putting out music.
That apply to all the celebs who go through that. I'm talking about going all the way back to the early 20 century right up to this century. We always heard of celebs overdosed, sick with an illness, in a coma, gone mental or died. This is how the entertainment business is (Hollyweird). They market a "brand" to the public to make more money. The celebs are the brand with gimmicks treated as "a bank". How I know that? PR aka Public Relations. Nothing is what it seem that included all the celebs' persona.
Miley was perfect for this role, this episode is immensely different from what we’re used to in Black Mirror, the first episode with a really happy ending

as much as i love this episode, this didnt really feel like a black mirror episode. it felt like an actual movie. no dystopian society, no groundbreaking discoveries. this felt like a legit movie that would come to theaters or something. but, that does not have to be a bad thing. there are a few plot holes i noticed, but i'm not gonna get into that.
welp, now i feel stupid XD. turns out it was supposed to feel like an average (or above average) movie. the magic of black mirror is absolutely magnificent!

I'd agree that Hang the DJ was a happy ending. Reality wasn't the only thing that mattered, but the _story_. Not only that but it's not like reality ended on a bad note or anything either. However an indisputable happy ending is San Junipero. Striking Vipers was happy IIRC (even though the episode itself was full of flaws and strangeness, that's not the issue being looked at here), as well as more-or-less Nosedive although I guess one could call it bittersweet or silver lining or something.

I think this episode is a satire of pop culture in general, but ESPECIALLY KPOP culture where idols are shaped to be characters that might not be the real them or an exaggerated or perfected version of themselves and people gullibly fall in love with these "characters" without truly knowing the real them or forgetting that they're humans as well...which unfortunately results in overly obsessive fans/stans (like saesangs for instance). It's a problem in Western pop culture as well, but not as extreme as KPOP IMO as Western celebrities from what I've seen so far are able to live out their real lives (a bit) more in comparison.

Even if this episode got a lot of hate, I really loved seeing Miley make it and could tell it was about her and her career. Also also, I recently binged the entire series of Hannah Montana to do my own comparison to this episode. And there's actually an episode where "Hannah" wrote a song that was different from what she normally did and also got a lot of negativity from the label and kids who were screened to judge the song, while a small amount of people (like her dad...which was a pretty cool reference from what Ashley's aunt said it was only going to relate to like 10 people, that was an awesome little detail). Also when Miley revealed she was also Hannah, yes, a lot of people like Rachel did not see her as a person but more of an object of interest. Amazing analysis ♥️

for some reason this was the only episode in black mirror that was hard for me to get through, not because i didn't like it but because i related to both rachel and jack so much
i think it's influenced by idol culture in japan and south korea most of idols are overworked and underpaid the mangers take 70% of the profits with ridiculos strict rules like no dating

That episode blew me away .... after all the negative comments on season 5 I read before this episode, I thought it was going to be terrible. So many twists and turns, as well as an awesome creative plot idea ... It is one of my top favorite episodes now, along with White Bear, White Christmas, and San Juanipero

I also noticed at one point she said “I felt like I was wearing someone else’s skin” which could be a reference to the VMA outfit she wore when she was at the peak of controversy in real life. The music industry tried to discredit anyone with an influence that doesn’t follow their demands.
What I like about this episode is that it's a slap in the face to the audience that yeah technology is an important part of black mirror, but people are more relevant to the show and should not be ignored. This felt like an episode where people are taking the spotlight instead of tech like "oh no in trapped in a never ending augmented reality." It's about people vs. people. I also think that it makes the other episodes more impactful as it changes the audiences mindset from "oh sh*t this technology is dangerous, we shouldn't build it" to "whoever made this is really bad at their job or just doesn't understand human selfishness and self righteous ego enough."
Honestly I loved this episode, I liked how light it was while it still hit actual points. And On a Roll slaps way harder then it ever deserved to. Great Analysis!
It's funny as I was watching I was thinking that song's hook sounded too much like head like a hole. I'm a big NIN fan and grew up loving Trent's music so it was funny to see it was the case. So glad Trent gave permission for this.
I like the part at the end where the girls are leaving the club because they don't like ashleys new music. It shows how watered down music is now and the lack of substance and how the younger audience just eats it up without actually listening to the lyrics and understanding the meaning behind it.
I really freaked out when I saw her in that position and the child saying "I'm huge fan" I was like HELP HER SIS, God Also is the dialogue from Hannah Montana when met Hannah and said to her "I am huge fan" too.

Wow you even mentioned David Goggins, I'm impressed. This was such a good episode of black mirror, I didn't even notice it was Miley Cyrus who played Ashley but I really like the points they made about the music industry chewing up musicians. Pink Floyd (amazing band) basically mentions this throughout most of their albums; The Wall, Wish You Were Here, Animals, etc. With 'Have A Cigar' and "Welcome to the machine' really focusing on them. Just wanted to mention that lol, anyway this episode was a pretty good ending for an amazing series.

For the past 3 days I've been binge watching black mirror for the first time and watching your engine explained videos and today I finished and now I feel so empty
It's the only episode I've seen so far in the series and I enjoyed it. I felt like it was a way to portray the attempts by artists who do try to shed their child star/pop idol images. They want to grow up but the industry keeps pulling them back in one way or another.
I thought the episode was fine, but it seemed like a lot of people were disappointed because they expected the A plot to go somewhere darker instead of being cancelled by the sister taking the doll, as well as the other dolls malfunctioning.
My mum bought my sister Miley Cyrus tickets during the Can't be Tamed UK tour and said there were parents turning up with toddlers and leaving livid because they expected Hannah Montana when the show was CLEARLY advertised as Miley, not Hannah.
I see that a lot of people dislike this episode because it's not sci-fi enough (or BM enough) but I don't get that. I am someone who has never liked sci-fi but I love Black Mirror and I think it's because the show is not about technology as much as it is about people and how we take advantage of scientific innovations. Also, I resent the accusations that season five is somehow not BM enough! It's ridiculous! Richard Brooker himself said that the show is a box of (dark) chocolates as in you never know what you're gonna get. Not all episodes are hard to watch, not all of them have sad endings. But the creators don't owe us hard-to-watch episodes nor did they ever promise they would all be like that. The important part is that all episodes shine a light on important issues we need to address, they make us think and reflect upon ourselves when the episodes cut to black. That's the only thing we were promised and they sure did deliver on that!

this episode definitely made me feel some typa way. i grew up with hannah montana as my favorite show and my entrance to the music world i used to idolize miley but as i grew up i realized miley cyrus isnt hannah montana or miley stewart or disney miley and learning that and seeing her grow and do what she REALLY loved was strange at first but somehow in the past year i found my way back to her, or to the real miley.

And there's actually an episode where "Hannah" wrote a song that was different from what she normally did and also got a lot of negativity from the label and kids who were screened to judge the song, while a small amount of people (like her dad...which was a pretty cool reference from what Ashley's aunt said it was only going to relate to like 10 people, that was an awesome little detail). Also when Miley revealed she was also Hannah, yes, a lot of people like Rachel did not see her as a person but more of an object of interest.

I also noticed at one point she said “I felt like I was wearing someone else’s skin” which could be a reference to the VMA outfit she wore when she was at the peak of controversy in real life. The music industry tried to discredit anyone with an influence that doesn’t follow their demands.

OMG! Just saw the notification! And I love this episode!!! Out of all the analysis, this was the most interesting to me and I really enjoy it.
What I like about this episode is that it's a slap in the face to the audience that yeah technology is an important part of black mirror, but people are more relevant to the show and should not be ignored. This felt like an episode where people are taking the spotlight instead of tech like "oh no in trapped in a never ending augmented reality." It's about people vs. people. I also think that it makes the other episodes more impactful as it changes the audiences mindset from "oh sh*t this technology is dangerous, we shouldn't build it" to "whoever made this is really bad at their job or just doesn't understand human selfishness and self righteous ego enough."

I like the part at the end where the girls are leaving the club because they don't like ashleys new music. It shows how watered down music is now and the lack of substance and how the younger audience just eats it up without actually listening to the lyrics and understanding the meaning behind it.

Wow you even mentioned David Goggins, I'm impressed. This was such a good episode of black mirror, I didn't even notice it was Miley Cyrus who played Ashley but I really like the points they made about the music industry chewing up musicians. Pink Floyd (amazing band) basically mentions this throughout most of their albums; The Wall, Wish You Were Here, Animals, etc.
With 'Have A Cigar' and "Welcome to the machine' really focusing on them.
Just wanted to mention that lol, anyway this episode was a pretty good ending for an amazing series.

It's the only episode I've seen so far in the series and I enjoyed it. I felt like it was a way to portray the attempts by artists who do try to shed their child star/pop idol images. They want to grow up but the industry keeps pulling them back in one way or another.

I thought the episode was fine, but it seemed like a lot of people were disappointed because they expected the A plot to go somewhere darker instead of being cancelled by the sister taking the doll, as well as the other dolls malfunctioning.

My mum bought my sister Miley Cyrus tickets during the Can't be Tamed UK tour and said there were parents turning up with toddlers and leaving livid because they expected Hannah Montana when the show was CLEARLY advertised as Miley, not Hannah.
I see that a lot of people dislike this episode because it's not sci-fi enough (or BM enough) but I don't get that. I am someone who has never liked sci-fi but I love Black Mirror and I think it's because the show is not about technology as much as it is about people and how we take advantage of scientific innovations.
Also, I resent the accusations that season five is somehow not BM enough! It's ridiculous! Richard Brooker himself said that the show is a box of (dark) chocolates as in you never know what you're gonna get. Not all episodes are hard to watch, not all of them have sad endings. But the creators don't owe us hard-to-watch episodes nor did they ever promise they would all be like that. The important part is that all episodes shine a light on important issues we need to address, they make us think and reflect upon ourselves when the episodes cut to black. That's the only thing we were promised and they sure did deliver on that!
I loved the comedic ending to S5! Had some great laughs during that episode, loved the Miley Robot once it was 'unlimited' :D

this episode definitely made me feel some typa way. i grew up with hannah montana as my favorite show and my entrance to the music world i used to idolize miley but as i grew up i realized miley cyrus isnt hannah montana or miley stewart or disney miley and learning that and seeing her grow and do what she REALLY loved was strange at first but somehow in the past year i found my way back to her, or to the real miley.
