I love Merle Haggard. I love when he discovered performing in the local bar he could make $2.50 a night. He decided he would just do that rather than working in the fields. My mother’s family worked in the fields in the central valley.
Loved them both and had favorite songs from both. They brought Country music alive. I'm no nearing 80 years old and I still love to hear their songs and listen to the old Country all the time. Most of the new I'm not crazy about, there's to many instruments drowning out the singer. The stories in the Country songs is what drew us in and the modern country may have good stories but it's difficult to hear the words. I loved the voices first, instruments are to enhance not drown the singer.
I always liked Buck's music. He influenced so many people like the Beatles, Gram Parsons and Keith Richards. I lived in Bakersfield for a few years and was sad to see the music scene severely lacking compared how it had been in the past. Not very many music venues left. I've been to the Crystal Palace a few times and the house band and food was really good. Unfortunately Buck had already passed.
I went to Buck Owens funeral. It was sad that Buck passed but he had so many people there to pay tribute to him. You say almost legendary? He is a legend!
40+ years before his death Merle moved up here to Far North CA. Living on his ranch just east of Redding, in Palo Cedro. Sometimes he would spend weeks at a time on his houseboat with friends on beautiful Lake Shasta. He had a favorite little restaurant in Redding he often ate breakfast at. The owners set up a special table off in a private corner, just for him. They would only allow Merle and whatever family or friends he was with, to sit there. It sat for weeks sometimes without being used. May the Lord bless you Hag along with Far North CA. Always and forever, Merle Haggard country.......🤠 EeYaWhooo Pardnar.......
Buck and Merle contributed a lot of tunes that the bar-bands do to this day. I believe that artists whose material gets covered by the neighborhood bands are the true icons of music!
I'm out here in Windsor I'll go by Justin you know if everybody feels the way I do about all of our country western singers passing it's a tragedy you know just like George Jones who's going to fill their shoes Buck Owens I got a tiger by the tail🎉 they're going to put me in the movies Johnny Cash I love Cocaine Blues Charlie Pride roll on Mississippi Galaga just so many have been missed I know I should the hell do Alabama the closer we get I'm getting down there now Keith Whitley and just so many more Randy Travis Diggin Up Bones that's about enough I got to say this is just plugging out❤😢
Merle.. but I love love loved Buck. Buck and Don, the way they sang together, and the way they played together is so inspiring to 2 of my senses. It just always makes me happy.
Back in1966 my mom bought my sister a guitar, and it had with it a book let to show her how to play it. The first song I've ever heard from buck Owen was: I got a tiger by the tail. In the Middle1970s my neice and nephew tore it up. None of us kids never learnt how to play it
Could not pick a favorite, but, Merle's songs were true grit which seemed to strike a real chord for most country listeners. Without Don Rich, Buck's career probably would have taken a different turn. Liked both Artists, but there were many other great Artists in Country Music at that time. 😃
I remember watching Buck on Hee Haw with my Grandparents as a kid. My Grandma always said he is not a good looking man . He looks like a Catfish but boy he sure can sing!
I love both of them dearly... Raised on both, my mom & dad always had Buck Owens and Merle Haggard playing on the 8-track. My first memory of any song was Buck Owens' "Your Tender Loving Care" and I love both Merle and Buck (and "Dangerous" Don Rich) probably more than my folks did. There will many influenced by these three, but no one ever like them again. Favorite Merle song "The Fugitive" .. But I love every song both of them ever did.
Brings back great memories.. Good to see Susan Raye ( Susan Aird ) in many clips. We worked together at radio station KWAY in Forest Grove, Ore. We went to High School together.
Buck would have been very successful without Don rich. And Don would have been successful without Buck. But together they were legendary. They had an amazing friendship and they loved each other like family. Buck was devastated when Don died. Buck was never the same
Buck Owens was never even in the running when it came to Merle Haggard!!! Buck who? Merle Haggard was, is and always will be #1!!! The epitome of real country music. No one ever came close to his song writing, his music and singing. "The Best"!!! Hands down. Merle was authentic. The one and only, Merle Haggard!
A fan named Estella Olsen wrote the lyrics as a poem and sent them to Buck, as many fans did back in the day. While most of these type of letters would get dismissed or ignore, Don Rich thought it good enough and took the lyrics, made an adjustment here and there, and composed the melody and music for the song. Olsen gets credited on the song...and I believe she received royalties for it, and her family continues to do so, to this day. In 1966, when it was released, it went to Number 1 on the country charts and spent 6 weeks at the top. It also reach number 74 on the pop charts according to the wikipedia write up on the song. Lovely song. Dig, DmGrk
Both artist are most definitely in the top 10 of All time. As a song writer and musician over all I would put Merle as above Buck. BUT the fact that made me a life long country music fan #1 John R. Cash Then Buck Owens

Why do we need to expose the dirt and sadness of a man who died years ago . I have watched only the first couple of minutes and won’t watch anthology more. Listen to the music and enjoy, don’t destroy the man.
I like them both. Merle is my favorite. I knew Bonnie had something to do with Buck & Merle. That’s the rumor I think. Also Buck was a womanizer (just watch HEE-HAW episodes you’ll see the proof). Songs of Bucks I can play on my guitar are Act Naturally (Thanks Johnny Russell - RIP), Together Again, Love’s Gonna Live Here Songs I can play on my guitar by Merle Haggard are Big City,Mama Tried, Swinging Doors, and some others. I like other songs by both Buck & Merle. I knew Buck & Merle were both from Bakersfield but what I didn’t know was that Merle played Bass & a member of the Buckaroos before Don came in the picture. I’m glad that Merle & Buck got together for the last time before Buck passed away in 2006. After Buck & Bonnie divorced Buck & Susan Raye were involved in a relationship & married & Merle & Bonnie was in a relationship & married. Merl married Bucks ex wife and she sang in his shows for years after,my parents never missed Bucks tv show. His guitar(Don Rich )player was phenomenal. I read that growing up John5 was inspired by watching Buck and Roy Clark on Hee Haw tv show.Amazing musician played with Motley Crue..
Merkel was by far the superior musician, song writer, entertainer, father and most handsome. They both had problems when it came to being a faithfully husband but Merle seemed to get better with age.
I hate videos like this. The title is a lie. It’s a guy reading a Wikipedia page and rolling pics that have relevance to what he’s saying. Lazy money grab.
I'm confused... His family settled in Phoenix in 1968 because of a trailer malfunction. In the 9th grade he by what the video makes it sound like he moved to Bakersfield. Just a few seconds later it says the Owens family found themselves in "Bakersfield". Make up your mind, did he move there by himself, or with his family? This is probably a BS video. I'm done watching.
My brother rudy Lyle with Bill Monroe Merle had crush on dolly asatisfied mind I make sure I do it he a love junkie I guess I know I can get attached emonationaly Bobby Lyle Merle something else to
Both are precious gems in country music. I hope they are still making music in heaven.
Two of my favorite country singers ♥️♥️. Now they are singing in that Heavenly Choir!😇
Both were great, but Merle Haggard always be my number one favorite singer and songwriter.🔥❤️
I love Merle Haggard. I love when he discovered performing in the local bar he could make $2.50 a night. He decided he would just do that rather than working in the fields. My mother’s family worked in the fields in the central valley.

I'm 57 an totally agree with you ...
Myself, the reason the instruments are so loud is because the stars can’t sing a lick. Turn off the noise and just listen to the voices; disgusting.
Merle was an amazing musician and songwriter. He is my favorite country artist of all time.
Merle Haggard was a genius. His instrumental skills and vocal style had many layers of depth.
Merle's music didn't flow like Buck's
I love Merle Haggard!
So was Buck
They are both Legends.
I went to Buck Owens funeral. It was sad that Buck passed but he had so many people there to pay tribute to him. You say almost legendary? He is a legend!
Buck Owens one of my favorite.

My favorite Buck Owens song is.... Together Again. I play that song everyday. Continue to sleep in peace Buck Owens ❤
My fav song also . Buck was the first singer i can remember hearing as a very young boy , around 5 I think . Loved his and Merles music .
👍
Outstanding!
Merle.. but I love love loved Buck. Buck and Don, the way they sang together, and the way they played together is so inspiring to 2 of my senses. It just always makes me happy.
Yes.

Absolutely agree..
Buck Owen’s and Don Rich were amazing! Saw them perform many times!👍👍‼️‼️
that must have been crazy shows.
Yes.
Brings back great memories.. Good to see Susan Raye ( Susan Aird ) in many clips. We worked together at radio station KWAY in Forest Grove, Ore. We went to High School together.
They probably should’ve touched on that a bit more IMO. Arms Full of Empty, was just one of my favs with those two.
Merle Haggard tops total package singer and song writer.
Same can be said for Buck.
Don rich was the sound.
I agree, I saw Buck live back in the day and Don Rich was a strong presence on stage. Don was the glue for the Bakersfield sound. 😃
Don Rich was reason for Bucks success imo
Buck would have been very successful without Don rich. And Don would have been successful without Buck. But together they were legendary. They had an amazing friendship and they loved each other like family. Buck was devastated when Don died. Buck was never the same

Mearl is my favorite by far.
A true Legend.
Loved Buck!
They don’t make’em like this anymore
Buck is my favorite by far
Likewise.
Buck Owens and Merle Haggard were friends and worked through the high and lows of life. They made it all right and that's what counts in life!!
My favorite song by buck owens was called think of me.
In its original recording don rich is singing the high part.
A fan named Estella Olsen wrote the lyrics as a poem and sent them to Buck, as many fans did back in the day. I am more a fan of Merle Haggard. His songs have touched me deeper. Steven/
I went to grade school in Okla. with a boy and girl. Rumor was Buck was their father and they looked just like him.
Names?
So what are the “rumors” and why do you keep showing Willie Nelson?
They are showing use a loser
Is so sad that people can say whatever they want and not care who it hurts.
I'm sure it hurts the children a lot.
Donald Eugene Ulrich was the Bakersfield sound.
I can go along with that.
Oh what a wicked web we weave, when first we start to deceive....

So narrator, what rumors?
I used to buy my records from Buck in his record store . That was in the 60s down town Bakersfield.
Why do we need to expose the dirt and sadness of a man who died years ago . I have watched only the first couple of minutes and won’t watch anthology more. Listen to the music and enjoy, don’t destroy the man.
You managed to drag this out for 21 minutes .

Bonnie and Merle got married.
I wandered why Susan Raye was there because she couldn’t sing, he was taking care of her

I've truthfully never been a fan of Buck, but I do like the live performance at Wembley,of "Big in Vegas." It's very moving and believable.

My favorite ❤️
Merkel was by far the superior musician, song writer, entertainer, father and most handsome. They both had problems when it came to being a faithfully husband but Merle seemed to get better with age.
Still don't know what the rumors are .must be a long lost secret
Loved a lot of music from that era. But, I think the rumor is, that we’ve all been had.
The Crystal Palace went into bankruptcy, with a few employees going to jail for stealing not only money, but memorabilia as well.
Interesting Bakersfield history!!
There should be a button titled Clickbait. If enough users click on it the uploader automatically gets suspended for 30 days.

Seems random.
Merle was my favorite artist, well ahead of Buck Owens.
Did a lot of dancing to Buck 's music. !!
