This line is my reasoning behind liking Anakin in the prequels. He’s brought up by the Jedi to believe he should fear love, but his own son saves him with his love. This line saved to prequels in my eyes

Have you checked out SW:TOR yet? It's been a few years since I checked in on it, not having a proper pc in college & after. I think it's still up & running, I'm seriously considering getting back into playing that game, it is a lot of fun albeit not exactly KOTOR game style.

Best thing about the game is the ability to be bounty hunter, sith warrior, sith Inquisitor, imperial agent, republic trooper, Jedi knigt, Jedi counselor, smuggler, etc. There's so much variety, and so many different planets to go to. Definitely worth getting back in to

Also everything that was good in Kotor 1 was also in kotor two (alongside with some bad ones from the first game...)

Hand movements were spot on. Too accurate. Haven't played Kotor in a year or two but the hand movements alone gave me flashbacks of the game.

Revan had killed many of his followers before. It’s not unreasonable he’d do it again.
The Sunry trial was the most morally challenging thing I had to do. I found out Sunry had murdered the sith, but that it would eventually be for the worse of the republic if he was convicted. So I have the choice of submitting to allowing a heinous crime go by for a purpose of the war, or do the right thing, at the cost of destroying both his life and his innocent wife's. These moral dilemmas actually surprised me when I first played it.
There is a deleted line that allows you save him with mods but I did find a way to save sunry once without it but it requires a lot of saves and very careful talking. (I've been playing it for over 15 years and completely it probably 100 times.)

When u get that revan reveal, and then talk to ur companions, they can literally change your mind about what path u intended to take. And that's deep. The fact that a video game understood how the force can seemingly be random, and doesn't need some epic reveal that " i made you see those visions to manipulate you" kinda bs... it's never revealed or discovered that someone else was manipulating you, just the FORCE and everyone's opinions, and also their admitted lack of understanding of WHY the force is behaving as it does, and that the YOU ultimately control your destiny and what you fight for is why this game is so much better than the new trilogy.
One of the main things that made me regret being dark side was Mission, genuinely just cause she’s an innocent kid who literally did nothing wrong but befriend you. And Juhani because I kind of wanted my romance with her LOL. I wish you could’ve convinced her to come join you.
Sad thing is The Act Man spoiled the big Revan reveal for me in this video. I watched it to understand why it's so acclaimed before I play it, and he went ahead and spoiled it FFS. He should have given this video a spoiler warning. I hope being spoiled doesn't ruin the game for me.

Maybe 10 times here. Every cranny explored each time. Best Star Wars game ever made.
The Old Republic era was stroke of genius. Suddenly, jedi everywhere. You could create entirely new ships, droids, factions and stories without any conflict with canon. And it worked. The galaxy felt huge and mystical, As KOTOR is an RPG you can run around talking to people, experience smaller issues like gang wars, illegal arenas, family feuds as well as corporate greed and apocalyptic scenarios.
The characters, the enviroment and the style was nigh perfect.
All in all, The Old Republic era is the best thing to have happened to Star Wars, even compared to Clone Wars.
Honestly, it's my favorite lore and content of the entire star wars universe, canon or not fuck disney

I love when the hutt on Taris calls you the mysterious stranger and then says "its a good name, seems like you have some big dark secret". The foreshadowing is epic.

Watching this just breaks my heart even more at the thought of BioWare has become now, especially after... Anthem... and finding out that disaster was pretty much BioWare's fault alone.
I heard that they are now working on Dragon Age. If that doesn't do well, I'm sure BioWare will go under like Maxis, Blackbox or any other EA studio...
Coming from someone who just recently played KOTOR for the first time I can say that yes, the game has not only aged well, it has aged EXTREMELY well, and is definitely my favorite game of all time.

Why was kotor so awesone? Because it was not made just to make money like modern EA star wars, It actually had love and care put into it.
Or maybe because they started production in 1999 and that's why it felt so well written. It also brought Star Wars to a new level. Specifically by kickstarting the popularity of dialogue-heavy Star Wars stories.

Bioware, before they were corrupted by EA, did AMAZING things.
I mean. They were able to pull off some pretty good stuff, they made me2 and pretty much everything except the ending in me3 was good
Homecooked salami the ending was okay, people give it too much shit, yes it is horrible without the Extended Cut and Indoctrination Theory but with those it is arguably the biggest gamble made by BioWare, I wish more people understood that

What saved it were somewhat good fps mechanics and characters you knew from before and also that there wasnt big need for explaining stuff bc ME1 already did that (which cushioned the change from logic to "fuck it, just make explosions, who cares if its dumb" in the narrative). But ME3 was in all regards (Worldbuilding, logic, almighty writer syndrom, threw out already established facts from previous games when it fitted the writer etc) simply the absolute dumbest game i ever played from a so called AAA company, that i actually questioned if the writer(s) are beyond second grade. Because that "story" missed things you learn at that age for writing/plotting an essay..
SWOTOR’s stories aren’t that bad, but into the Eternal Empire stuff it was clear they were milking it
This was OUTSTANDING! I'm revisiting the game 20 years later, and playing through with my son. It's such an incredible thing to experience it all again with my boy! This game is absolutely timeless.

The intro has an obvious high production value. The very educating tutorial, the relatable responses, and the well choreographed action... it’s a no brainer this video as well as the game itself are the best leaps in current technology. You have our gratitude ActMan for portraying such elegance.

It really isn't that hard. T3 already trusts you, and so does Mission and Zaalbar. HK-47 and Canderous love Revan too much to hate you, and Jolee doesn't care. Juhani remembers you as the Jedi who set her free from slavery. That's 7 out of 8 characters.
Was playing this for the first time in years and just realised that juhani's voice actress is jack in mass effect...
I finally got around to playing this recently and really enjoyed it. One of my favourite details is something that can be easily missed and is with the Sand People. There's an optional quest with them where the reward is to the speak with their story teller and have him tell you about their people's history. What I love about this is that you can see exactly where they're coming from and if you've been paying attention you can understand their true history better than they do, but due to their rigid beliefs that have altering the telling of their history punishable by death you'd never be able to tell them. It's that sort of detail I loved about old BioWare.

You missed the sickest, most evil thing you can ever do in a video game. When you turn dark side you can convince Zaalbar that he gave you a life debt, and that he has to honour it. In the end you'll make Zaalbar kill Mission. It's just so evil I actually hate myself every time I make myself do it. It's seriously messed up.

I love some of the goofy dark side dialogue. Like the slave cook at the Vulker base is all “Please don’t kill me” and Revan is like “Sorry sister, your order is up!” Classic
Omricon I think Zaalbar attacks you on the Star Forge after that to avenge Mission.
Or the line where Juhani is talking to you on the Ebon Hawk and says "It was like looking at gods......." a choice for Revan is "Damn right, i do look Divine!"
It's a shame, down right criminal that we can't get something like this now for Star Wars. If only we can get The Witcher 3 treatment for Star Wars on a galactic scale and space battles that is not over simplified as EA's Battlefronts. I really hope I can see another KOTOR again happen in my lifetime.

Games will never be the same as long as micro transactions are tolerated. If there's kotor 3, it will be more like Destiny than W3
But yeah man, me too. If there were a #3, I would want to visit all the planets from the first 2 plus new ones of course. I'd also have no essential party members, meaning you could kill or abandon all of them and still somehow complete the story. I would still keep the D&D mechanics, just make it more seamless.
I want Fallout New Vegas but Star Wars. Running around doing smaller quests, harvesting the flora and fauna, just living and existing in a star wars setting. Dealing with megacorporations, massive wars, overpowered force users etc.
This video was a must to be made. Amazing job tapping on every details about it, truly great! This game and KotOR 2 have done a decade ago what Disney should have done now.
Revisited this video a year after watching it and damn does it still hold up. Act man, I think you captured the nostalgia, quality and message of the game perfectly. Makes me wanna zip home and flip on my xbox and go back to fighting rakguuls in the undercity of Taris, and rediscovering slowly the biggest twist in the game. I'd go as far as to say the twist in KOTOR was the greatest twist I've ever experienced in any video game.

Imagine being Malik at the end, turning on your lightsaber to duel your arch enemy Revan, only for him to whip out two blasters and lay into you with a salvo of lasers.

That skit at the beginning is pure gold. It makes me want to watch you reenact the whole thing. Also your tone and mannerisms were on point. Your thinking face when choosing dialogue was perfect!
Being Trask for the intro was brilliant. I’ll never forget you Trask! You even modeled your player after him, respect ✊. I miss the days when this game froze and then ten seconds later your party just sprints at ridiculous speed across to map to catch up to where you would’ve been had it not froze. This game really did change gaming in its time. It’s the first game I remember that was fully voice acted, that was a big deal; Made it probably the most immersive game ever to those who played it when it came out simply because we had never experienced anything like it before with the freedom it offered in character customization, exploration, totally different dialogue options and trees which made the game seem new each time, and what content you chose to do or not to do. First game I ever felt like my choices mattered, or that I even had choices really and I wasn’t just riding on a rail. It gave you the feeling that it really was a journey, your journey and you controlled what happened in the story. Great game.
Even sega games were voice acted and voice acting in games us unnecessary anyone older than 4 reads or skims 15 x faster and skips the mumbling
The writing is amazing. There was a droid shop where if you're a sith you can 'negotiate' for the best droid he has for free. The thing is though it's not just some option as soon as you speak with him you have to actively 'negotiate' for a lower and lower price until he's literally in tears begging you not to take the droid as it's by far the most expensive one he has and it'll ruin him financially. I took the droid anyway because I already beat the game as 100% good guy so I was going to experience what it was like being 100% bad and you know what happened? I felt bad for him, for weeks, I still feel like a jerk. I couldn't care less about all the enemies I killed, but this man I spent a good quarter hour talking to and just sitting there asking myself if I really should keep pushing, that will always stick with me. THAT is good writing, when it tugs at your heart strings, where you know full well it's not real and you may not even be that immersed, but it still hits you and sticks with you.

Played it for the first time last year, and although I knew the plot twist (because internet), I still loved the fact of how us the fans were integrated to the lore and felt like we genuinely impacted the galactic history. Which makes you realize how of a masterpiece this game is not only as work of its own medium, but as a Star Wars story. A shame we couldn’t reprise our role as Revan in Kotor II and we couldn’t get a proper trilogy and conclusion with Knights Of The Old Republic III.
Got a 13 hour flight next week. Can’t stand watching movies on planes and forgot I had this on my old amazon tablet for free. Never got to play this as a kid and as a huge Star Wars fan I’m hoping this can help pass the time.

I just finished my first playthrough today. Dark side male. Can't believe it took so long for me to play this game but it was so worth it. Sadly I already knew the twist because the internet but it still hit hard when it was revealed. Fantastic game.
i remember beating this game for the first time during a quiet summer night. It was 2 am and as the credits starting rolling, i stood up and looked out out my window and the sky was a pitch black, but was lit up with a blueish tint. As I sat there, I really put deep though into the crazy adventure of a one of a kind game that i just spent the past month playing. Truly a work of art. Sitting there with the credits rolling in really brought a tear to my eye knowing that great fun adventure, was over, never to know the whereabouts of our characters we bonded over time with. It really gets you thinking.
And KOTOR showed it's possible to have a death weapon that doesn't have to blow up planets... I'm looking at you Abrams

I think Bastila's story actually was supposed to show that self-repression doesn't actually protect you from the dark side, it actually makes you MORE vulnerable. A lot of her dialogue and interactions show how she's pretty much the farthest possible thing from the "perfect Jedi padawan" she pretends to be (hell, Carth has a higher light side score than she does). She's pretty much the best example of why Jolee is right.
It's a difficult path either way. Individuals might be able to have the strength to delve into normal sapient aspects which can easily take one to the Dark Side, but not everyone can, so why teach it in schools, basically. Exceptions to the exceptional, above and beyond, can do and handle more, and should thus be treated as such. But your average Padawan is going to go Dark the moment something dearly beloved to them is ripped from them. Ergo the best way to handle that across your entire Order is to do away with such things. It's meant to be less repression (which is a problem), and more detaching oneself from worldliness. The concerns of the selfish heart, ambition, desire for material possessions and unnecessary control, all part of worldliness.
The Jedi were very Nirvana-oriented in spirit, but they were rubbish at teaching the difference between repression and letting go of 'human' matters.

Well said. Jolene was such a great character too. I love HK-47 and know he’s kind of the fan favorite but every character in both games have such unique and great personalities.
I liked Canderous the most when I was younger but now I like Jolee the most. He’s just so funny. The voice actor did a great job. Him and HK-47 have the best lines.
I am still sad that I couldn't turn her back to light side. Had to kill her 😣

My first attempt at this game was when I was like 6 or 7. I so badly wanted to be a light side jedi, but because I was young and dumb and lacked comprehension in dialogue, I ended up with a dark side character 😂

I remember a friend once asked me why my obsession with KotOR was so extreme. My answer surprised even myself. I responded, "The story of Knights of the Old Republic may actually rival that of the original Star Wars trilogy. It's that significant. On second thought you know what? ... I dare say it trumps the OT in so many ways. That is why I'm obsessed."
Honestly, I agree. And I am huge fan of the original trilogy. It is a classic for a reason yet Kotor did almost everything the old trilogy did as well as far more.
To be honest, when I watched the Star War movies, they were alright, but in the end, I kinda just fell on a trance, like your not really that much entertained, but not bored aswell. Some time later I barely remember much of the movies. But with KOTOR 1 and 2 , I got instantly into it, they gave me what the movies did well, and much more.
I played Kotor 1&2 for the first time in my life in 2017. Two of the best games I've played in my entire life and I've been playing games on PC and consoles since 1998:)

Amy J. Delevingne I would go with Hayley Atwell as Bastilla. Elizabeth Hurley is a little too old for the role. As far as Revan, I don't care much for Crowe in that role either. I'd go with Michael Fassbender, Jonathan Rhys Myers or Orlando Bloom.
Thank god you two are not responsible for casting choises. I mean no offence, but Orlando Bloom or Russell Crowe as Revan? Yeeeaaaahhh..... Crowe would be too old and Orlando wouldn't be convincing as Revan, it would be as bad as if Leonardo DiCaprio would have been cast as Anakin Skywalker.

I finished KOTOR literally hours ago and I couldn't agree anymore on how immersive, beautiful, and fun this game is! This video had a huge influence in my decision to play the game. Despite knowing the twist of the game I still felt the tension and weight surrounding it and the rest of the story as a whole. Everything about this game just screams STAR WARS. I thank you for illuminating the true beauty of this game.

According to the idea of Revan outlined in KOTOR 2, rather then the one described in the book "Revan", Revan never truly fell to the dark side. When he discovered the plan of Darth Vitiate to invade the republic he took up the mantle of dark lord of the Sith, not because he wanted it, but because he felt only under his rule could the galaxy be saved from an even worse fate. Malak destroyed all of Revan's plans when he betrayed him. Therefore I wouldn't really call Revan's story a fall and redemption arc, like Darth Vader. Revan did what he felt was absolutely necessary to save the Galaxy from a truly evil Sith lord. His story is one of the deepest and most complex of any Star Wars characters.
In the original game, no such idea is explored

Sith emporer took control of Revans mind at one point, so i dont think someone could be the leader of a dictatorial regime gaining dark power while destroying the republic with a eternal fleet after being controlled by a sith and still " want to do the right thing"

Kotor 1 never gave a reason for Revan's fall at all. The writer of Kotor 1, Drew Karpyshyn, went on to write the book "Revan" to expand upon Revan's backstory where he wrote the story of Revan and Malak being mind controlled. One of the writer's of Kotor 2 ,Chris Avellone, wrote a different version of Revan. Maybe you never played the game, but if you did, when you speak to Kreia about Revan, she describes him in the way I did in my original comment.
In the Kotor 2 version of Revan, he was never mind-controlled. He chose to "fall" to help save the galaxy in the only way he thought possible. Whether or not it was the right decision, it was meant to show that Revan walked the line of light and dark but leaning more towards the dark side.

But some of the ideas in kotor 2 were made before the team knew of the revan twist. So the staff knowing revan was a constantly referenced none character, they may have been trying to made a blank slate more interesting. But in the full context of kotor, more info isnt needed to make a compeling character, because of the twist. The idea is probably of an old version of the script
What? That's a huge assumption and also completely defy's Kreia's character. Kreia isn't a Sith who worships the Dark Side, she's perhaps an even more complex character than Revan is, and her relationship with the force isn't that of a typical Sith. She is in no way is trying to bring Meetra to the Dark Side. In fact, during the game she reprimands you if you act with to much dark side alignment. You need to refine your understanding of the story of Kotor 2. Regardless, her description of Revan is the way the writers of Kotor 2 wanted Revan to be portrayed, as a morally ambiguous character.
Stop referencing Revan's description in Kotor 1. Revan's moral allignment is never explored in depth in Kotor 1. The only reference to pre-memory loss Revan's morality was when Malak explains to Revan that he is aligned with no one and that he belongs to neither the Dark nor the Light. This description is more in line with Chris Avellone's Revan.
The mind controlled version of Revan came from the book "Revan" written by Drew Karpyshyn. Regardless of when it was released the whole idea of being mind controlled does Revan a massive disservice. What makes Revan's character so interesting and unique was his moral ambiguity. The fact that he makes Dark Side choices with Light Side intent and is successful is what makes Revan, Revan. Claiming Revan became Darth Revan because he was mind controlled by Vitiate removes all moral responsibility on Revan's part and makes him just another typical power-hungry, emotionally volatile Sith. But hey, if you like Drew Karpyshyn's Revan then good for you, none of it is canon anymore so Revan can be whoever the fuck you want him to be until Disney makes a new version of him. To me personally though Drew Karpyshyn's Revan is a failure in character development and is even less canon then non-canon.
