I'm rewatching the epidoses as well and all of the wives are accepting at first but you can watch them slowly but surely get slapped over and over again. Christine was left alone with her new baby getting no attention or bonding time together with Kody, Kody is literally crying (Christine said this later) because he misses Robyn so much and is manipulating for more Robyn time, Robyn is SO needy which begins to wear down Janelle (she said so later), and Meri begins to see the writing on the wall and starts to freak out. Kody then uses the fact that the original wives had trouble adjusting against them. He perceives Robyn to be the victim when in fact both Robyn and Kody are selfish, thoughtless and just unaware of anyone else's pain. What a mess!
Janelle said that she was really worried about Christine when she had the miscarriage because she lost so much blood, and it was scary. She thought they were going to lose her. I think she ended up in the hospital. But even when Truely almost died of kidney failure, I don't think Kody bonded more tightly with Christine
Yeesssss. Robin and Cody are completely oblivious to all of this and act like complete immature teenagers without an ounce of care not only for the wives.. but all the other kids as well!
To me it’s the fact that Robyn is never required to bring any real money into the family. I had long suspected that her home was lavish compared to the others in Las Vegas. None of the other family members are invited in the house, no filming. The women had every right to fume and fuss.
Robin entering into a family (with all her debt and all those kids, plus Christine about to have another baby) wanting to have such an expensive wedding and long honeymoon tells you exactly what kind of "sister" wife she's going to be.
It tells you what kind of a person she is all around. She is manipulative and her focus is on divide and conquer. Christin figured it out a long time ago, Meri, not so much.
Meri experienced more narc abuse to the point she was lost while Christine experienced the opposite effect with the abuse. Meri also was very much stifled in the vows and religion. This can hurt women
When I refer to this episode, I usually do because I think it shows the foundation with which Robyn started her relationships with her other sister wives. From the very first thing she did, she hurt these women...she lied to them. So, it shows why the others don't trust her...and I don't blame them.
Exactly right! Robin lied and deceived the wives. She said she never wanted them to know what her and Kody had done behind the wives backs. She wasn’t sorry she hurt Christine!
Completely agree. She set the tone for her relationships with the other wives. She wanted to show she was the Alpha wife. The others would be dependent on her to dictate the relationship that they had with Kody. Then the final nail was the divorce from Meri and legal marriage to Robyn. She wanted to have another party to celebrate but Kody said no.
I agree it was a lie and cruel however, it was Kody who was the one who practically jumped out of his chair and couldn’t wait to tell them all that he picked the dress out for Robyn. He was the one who told her not to tell the others then he couldn’t wait to take the credit. He has been responsible time and time again for bringing misery, jealousy and anger to all four wives and pitting them one against the other, not to mention the kids.
Season 17 ,the way in which Robyn calls Christine a liar about saying only Kody and her had a great relationship,even when Christine says I didn't say that ,sweet Robyn that isn't a bully was sure making me see who she really is ,a snake a deceitful woman if I were Christine I wouldn't have been so accepting of her comments I would have gotten up and slapped her right on her cheeky cheeky face .
Robyn asked Kody NOT to tell the other wives that he picked the dress. And he did it anyway, knowing the other wives would be upset and it would erode their trust in Robyn. That's why he says he's about to drop a bomb...he knows it's going to create drama and hurt feelings. And he does it anyway.
He doesn’t want the women to get along because then he have four against him. He said that in the episode after they bought coyote pass and the wives was making snow angels in the snow
Oh yes! He saved that "bomb" for the cameras!! Why? Was it about pitting the wives against each other? Was it more attention to himself? Was it so they feel like they have to fight for his affection? Yes! All of it!!!
If she cared anything at all about these women, she would never of done it for her to actually have to tell him not to say anything. She knows what she did was wrong.
Let's face it, Kody acted like a hormonal 16 year old boy with his new catch...a younger, THINNER, and more willing girlfriend. It was awful to see his mooning over Robyn and then her flaunting runway walking in body hugging wedding dresses, in front of her soon to be sister wives. Poor Christine was pregnant WHILE Kody is dating this new woman, gave birth recently before this wedding, she's in her post-partum recovery, knows her wedding was nothing compared to this lavish TLC production, and has to play nice and sweet with this woman, who clearly doesn't give a S&*T about any of them. Robyn's a despicable person, he's a even more despicable person, both playing cruel games with the other wives. And then Robyn and Kody can't understand WHAT THE ISSUE IS!!?? Narcissists through and through!!
Yea because he didn’t knock her up with 6 kids with the last two….he’s disgusting. I hope TLC drops kody and Robyn. I want to see Christine and Janelle live their lives ❤
What in the world made Robyn think that parading around modeling wedding dresses in front of his postpartum wife was a good idea anyway? I feel like she was rubbing it in their faces! Salt in the wound! Then to find out that she put them through that for nothing! Proving that she didn’t want their opinions. She wanted to show off.
It’s also like after she gave birth to one of her kids she asked Meri, if she wanted her to be her surrogate? A woman who couldn’t bear more children. That felt more like a dig than an offer.
Even if she wanted to pretend to want their opinions, she would have kept it secret and went back with them to pretend to pick the dress kody wanted. She didn't, so I think u are right. She wanted to show off but probably for the cameras. I don't think she gave any thought to the sister wives feelings at all.

This was definitely the episode that made me really dislike Robyn. She seemed sweet and likable at first, and this was the episode that (in my opinion) revealed that she did not care about her sister wives or building a relationship with them. I had a mistrust of her after this episode, which is hilarious because it's so early on in the show. I think this was the episode that made Robyn into the villain in many viewer's eyes!
This is where Robyn told Kody they were supposed to keep it a secret that they went off and picked out the wedding dress. The other wives feel 'played', and they WERE played. Then to find out Robyn expected Kody to lie (by omission) about it. Shows her character 100%. Also it shows Kody's. She's a snake, and he's a self-centered, unloving, uncaring, narcissistic assh*le. All his 'feelings' about people are for show. I don't think he even loves his own kids, and maybe not even Robyn. Just wait. Nobody with that ugly an expression is a good person.
Me too. That and her thinking that while she was engaged to Kody that she deserved the same amount of time with him as his wives. Also that they broke the kissing rule and that Kody had to be dragged back barely in time for Truely’s birth. And that he took off on a two week honeymoon with Robyn when Christine had just had a baby and there were all the kids at home. Nobe of the additional wives got a party or a trip. And now I’m remembering that she kicked the dog. Oh, boy, it just keeps on coming. I started out to only say a couple of things and it just snowballed.
Imagine if we knew about Robyn stealing one of Christine’s children to be her nanny, for months, and then never being kind to Christine after that. How much more differently we would have felt toward Robyn. Oh, and the dog kicking also.
i don’t see it as her being sneaky. she does everything to appease him. she is insecure and needs male validation. plus he is the meal ticket with a money making show.
TLC did pay. Kody asked them too instead of taking the high road and be modest. Robyn should of been modest. Could of saved a lot of money not going that far.
The one thing that sticks out to me whenever I see the scene where Cody indicates "he picked the dress" is the face he made. He thought he was extremely cute and was so proud of himself. His behavior was obviously not cute. So many other things. 1. The farce that the other wives were involved in the selection of the dress. 2. What groom is ever involved in picking out a wedding dress. It's verboten, even in the most forward thinking couples. 3. From the beginning he didn't care how his current wives felt. 4. This episode demonstrates how Cody tried to rewrite history. He likes to say that Christine never tried with the other wives. One can see in this episode how Christine was upset but then felt for Robyn and apologized for her behavior and asked for forgiveness AFTER she was the one who was lied to, deceived, put behind an other who was supposed to be an equal.
Christine tried the hardest with Robyn, and Robyn took full advantage of Christine’s deference and manipulated and used all of those insecurities against her to hurt her deeply. Robyn had no idea who she was, she thought she needed a man to be whole. And she needed to be the head wife to be happy. She did not think at all about the happiness or friendships or compromised she would need to develop to make this family that she wanted to work.
After Christine walked off she refused to talk to Kody for 3 days. They brought them all back later dressed in the same clothes to finish the session, which is how they were able to seemingly resolve the issue so quickly.
This episode really shows the other marriages crumbling. Kody never again cared about the other wives or children. Poor Truley was never loved and cherished by Kody as the other babies supposedly were.
I recommend watching season 8 episode 2 when the family is on a roadtrip and Christine is upset with Kody's friend Ken. The way Kody (and the sisterwives) treat Christine in that episode is absolutely appalling
It just showed how very little he thought of Christine in that episode and also women in my opinion when he madr thr remark about her time of the month. He is nauseating.
Watching this the day it came out about Christine getting engaged to David. Can’t wait to see Christine going dress shopping, cake testing, and I hope TLC televises it. It will be like the Royal Wedding to us sister lives fans😊
I wouldn't call myself a Sister Wives fan. I watched the first season and have loosely - very loosely kept tabs on what's happened on occasion through the years. But I would 100% love to see Christine's wedding prep and wedding. I'm immensely grateful they all broke free of Kody and the insanity that is polygamy. I knew from season 1 episode 1 that that family was a train wreck in the making. I saw right through Kody and Robyn. The other wives aren't perfect, but I don't think they're evil or schemers.
I hope that Christine and David make a fortune off their wedding and photos! I hope that Cody and Sobin make snide remarks to the audience. This will show how jealous Cody is and how insecure Sobin is of Christine. Sobin has tried to sabotage Christine from day one. Sobin saw Christine as a real threat, real competition. I pray that Christine make a financial killing on her wedding!
She got engaged to the first guy she met less then a year after finally breaking out of over 20 years of toxic marriage. I’m not excited about it at all. I wanted to see her grow on her own. Not do what 99.99999% of woman do and go from one relationship to another because they don’t know how to be alone and find their value in themselves. She doesn’t know what healthy relationships look and feel like so not happy she is fallowing in the foot steps of most women leaving abusive relationships and finding another toxic relationship.
Kody about the dress - it isn't just that he picked it out, or that Robyn faked the whole "let's try on dresses" thing. It's the, "...holy cow it's like I'd seen it in my dreams..."

The same reason he thinks telling the world he did not love his wives yet said nothing and stayed in the marriages made him the good guy. Kody's focus is on what he wants and how he is perceived. Robyn didn't want to tell the other wives he picked out the dress to preserve the one experience they had in the wedding prep. However Kody only cared that everyone would see the dress and know that HE picked that one.
I feel so awful for Christine here. You can see how devastated she was by the news that Kody picked out the dress. She looked like she wanted to be sick and Kody sat there with his arm around her all smug and conceited.
Janelle had tears in her eyes also. It's been mentioned a bunch of times on the show that they married almost in secret, no wedding to speak of and certainly no white dress (for her own second marriage). It was a dark dress.... but Robyn got the expensive white one that Kody picked out. It was heart wrenching to me, I already liked these women. Astounding also.
Yes, but he had a TV show and she had already tried to become an actor, this was her big break! Robyn loved rubbing it in to the other women that she was thin young and Kodys new toy!
They did it before the wives went shopping which is why Robyn didn’t pick one with the wives. It was a complete waste of their time pretending to include them.
Christine later revealed she started taking anti-depressants at this time! she was having "baby blues" plus all the stress and upset of Robyn's courting and marriage, it's a wonder she didn't completely lose it honestly
The thing that set my internal emergency alarm off...was the Kody SAID THIS ON TV FOR THE 1ST TIME! He knew how his 'wives' felt..especially Christine.I felt at this time...Kody's desire to hurt Christine especially Christine.. He surpasses self centered straight into abusive!
I think Robyn came in knowing she was going to let Kody do ALL the things the other wives wouldn’t let him do. She wanted to be favorite and she got it!! I also think she saw 3 full time babysitters in the other wives. She’s a user. That’s all she can do for others is use them😢
i bet that was the plan until she heard horror stories about what mary did and also realized none of them really liked her She is the kind of person to treat a SWs kid bad because she doesnt like their mother so she thought they would do the same.
I vaguely remember one of the first episodes where Christine was in the hospital and had just given birth to Truely. Cody came to see baby and mother, and brought Robin along. I was appalled. It was so thoughtless of him to drag in the new squeeze hours after Christine gave birth to their child. Even in plural marriage there should be some private moments. If Cody was too stupid to realize that that was mean and tone deaf, his "fiance" should have told him. Apparently, she dosen't know any better either.
I founds Season 13 especially telling. This is the season when Kody changes from nice Kody to visibly angry and manipulative Kody... The first 4 episodes show how Mary wants to buy the BNB... Kody dangles a carrot of possible help to her, but after she says the family will not be equity partners he pulls his support. When Mary is successful in acquiring the BNB he is almost livid.. it almost looked like he sent the wife's in to find out if she was going to include them in the profits even though they couldn't help financially. Next thing you know he is proposing a move.
Good point. I think that Robyn and Cody realized that after Mary got the bnb and the catfish incident that if Mary left there cash cow would be gone. I think that was also part of the move to Arizona.
There were several references to being un-happy with polygamy from Kody after these episodes as well. Make me think Kody and Robin conspired to set themselves and only themselves up for prosperity. For some reason this reminds me of when Robin took all the SW shopping for her wedding dress and made them think she (Robin) cared about their opinions and participation. In reality Kody and Robin disregarded the Sw's completely and did their own thing.
@@virginiaquiroz4873 I believe the entire move to Flagstaff WAS a conspiracy between R & K. I believe they planned to take the equity from all the homes, buy the first home they rented (remember how pretty it was?) and make the other wives so unhappy that they would leave. I think K negotiated poorly on that first house so the owner sold it out from under them. If you remember the episode where they got the phone call about the Coyote land, Kody had a VERY weird reaction to the news, almost immediate regret, then intense guilt, then a "what the hell." He knew from that point there was no turning back on the plan. And he immediately started distancing himself from all the children except Robyn's.
@lbarmstrong1 I need to find that episode and re watch it. I didn't notice that reaction. But yes I definitely see that Robin and Kody were conspiring. Even with the one house idea. That would ultimately be a home for Robin and her kids if anything was to happen to Kody... they would have pushed all of the sisterwives away frombit.
Cody thought he was winning the sexual lottery. He paid off her debts. He got her a nanny. She has never worked a day since she got married. Robyn is an operator. It will be interesting to see what happens when she files for divorce.
I don't think she will ever divorce him tbh. I think she knows she has a good deal with him there, so she doesn't work. Even if she gets half of the house and car, it won't sustain her all her life and through retirement. At least with Kody, she knows she doesn't have to work and can watch him struggle to bring home the bacon.
If they liquidated all their assets and she got half plus child support that would tide her over till she got someone else to take Kody's place. Maybe Kody has a girlfriend in Vegas. That may be the other reason he spends so much time there and wants to move back to Vegas.
I remember watching Season 1 and being disgusted with Kody, and told my Daughter in law "the only person that guy is in love with is himself." Robyn betrayed the other wives by kissing Kody before marriage and letting him pick out the wedding dress. It was all there out front in Season One.
Yeah, there are SO MANY foreshadowing moments in this episode that play out over the next several seasons. Also, my vote for an episode to watch is when Kody and Christine take their couples therapist Nancy with them on their anniversary trip. To Galveston.
I think you should review the episode where Christine is going into labor with Truly, and Kody is sucking face with Robyn instead of being there for his pregnant wife, who is about to deliver their child. Also: he has the nerve to ask the doctor, while Christine is having contractions, about fertility treatments for his first wife. I find his timing, completely immature, irresponsible, and extremely rude.
Don’t forget when Kody gets the call about Christine being on labor; Robyn keeps telling him wait, you didn’t eat anything, yada yada, yada, with the stalling!
Robyn doesn't look selfish, she is selfish! If she wanted to join the family she should ALWAYS have told him NO about wanting to sneak around NO to shopping for the wedding dress! Even in traditional weddings the fiance(man) doesn't go to pick out wedding dresses! 😮 Shame on both of them and Robyn constantly pretending that she doesn't know what was the breakdown of the "family" is patently ridiculous! Sit down and watch the show Robyn!
In the sister wives book it’s stated that after hearing Kody picked the dress, Christine left the set and didn’t return for 3 days! On the show it looks like she just took a short break
I have to say that I didn’t pick up on this at the time, but I do think this was a huge foreshadowing moment (especially after kissing her before marriage) showing that Kody was willing to give this wife special treatment and treat her differently from his other 3. At the time, I think I just felt so sad for Christine that she had to deal with all of this alongside of being pregnant and giving birth.
It was also another early example of Robyn doing things that she knew would upset the other wives, but she did it anyway and had wanted to keep it a secret (same with their initial courtship, multiple kisses before marrying, and her 1st pregnancy). She was definitely most interested in getting the man for herself and her kids, not the family
Gosh I disagree again… Robin didn’t wait to make choices because she’s codependent. (And ps, she’s just full on dependent as far as support and financially… kept woman) she waited to give her best customer his choice. She is trying to buy Cody in. His wedding, him dressing her like a doll. She could care less about the dress and cake, what will make Cody feel like he got what he wanted. The customer is always right.
You hit the nail on the head with everything you said. Robyn prancing herself around in front of the other wives was sickening. They looked like the mothers of the bride - not sister wives. Christine should have packed up and left Kody right then.
Kody sealed his fate the moment his disregarded the negative and hurtful impact his choice to not only go with Robyn and pick out the dress, but be so excited to hurt these others wives on tv by the way. and set a bad tone for the beginning of this relationship between these women. It was his absolute worst moment.
From that show onward I realized Robyn was really enjoying being on camera and Kody was so immature he didn't care at all about how his other wives and children felt.
Robyn knew that the dress shopping was going to hurt the other wives and she didn’t care. Robyn has always been manipulative. This episode was when Christine knew Robyn couldn’t be trusted and she put a wall up on not trying to be friends with Robyn.
I truly believe she planned it all because of hearing about it. Why else would she leave her kids with her mom and drive 4/5 hours away to attend church and go to a dance.
Robyn made such a big deal out of including the wives in the wedding planning, I thought the three were touched and pleased by her consideration. In these days brides and groom have a reveal where the groom sees the bride prior to the wedding and they take pictures before the wedding. In my day it was considered bad luck if the groom sees the bride before the wedding on the wedding day. There was a build up of excitement when the music started playing and each bridesmaid walks down the aisle. Everyone is in place, the doors open and there is the bride, mostly beautiful because she’s glowing and it’s a rare man that doesn’t have his breathe taken away and even a tear in his eye when he sees her for the first time. Okay I exaggerated hoping to build that anticipation so maybe you can understand how the bride feels About this “right of passage” no matter how old she is when she marries. Probably for the first time Robyn’s mask is torn off, she was willing to lie and betray the other wives. If she hadn’t made such a big deal about wanting to include them (she is marrying them too) it may not had hurt them as much. Clearly she has no intention of allowing them the honor of helping her pick her dress, she couldn’t decide and she was going to go home and think about it, blah, blah, blah. Kody’s behavior, his glee in letting the wives know he helped pick the dress clearly showed his disregard how they might feel, Robyn clearly was uncomfortable. She knew what she had done was hurtful and a very wrong way to enter their lives, she played them. That’s where any chance of it working out were dashed. Robyn’s response, “I didn’t think they would have to know”, she’s sorry, not because of what she did to them, she’s sorry she got caught. The tears, (not) I am hurt and sad that this hurt you was bull and they all know it. Kody was in his own bubble, with the, what’s going on? Why is everyone so upset? Etc hurts the wives even more. This episode is the beginning of the end… it destroyed any trust or joy the wives were feeling that Robyn wanted to be a sister wife. She had no idea that Kody was going to out her. She joined the “pack” on the worst foot ever. I imagine at that moment every wife watching the episode felt betrayed and outright lied to as the 3 wives. That’s where fans started to turn against Robyn, the no tears winder. Christine getting up and walking out expressed how everyone was feeling. And furthermore if there was ever a time when Kody shouldn’t have been courting and marrying it was when one wife was so very pregnant and needing his attention. You would think after 13 kids Kody would have learned you don’t mess with a pregnant woman if you ever want their marriage to ever be the same. Ask any fan, especially those watching that were pregnant how they felt and you would take a deep breathe and lowered their head and back off. There was more then one man getting into bed that night with his pregnant wife that lasts sound before sleep was “if you want to live you better never do anything like that to me” and it wasn’t about a new wife.
I think it was totally inconsiderate of Robyn and Kody choosing the dress after the sister wives had gone shopping with her they obviously wanted to be included and it was like Robyn and Kody were telling them it was only the 2 of them not anyone else, the timing was just so cruel against ALL 3 of the original wives who had filled for bankruptcies all at different times, they had very little money and a lot of children to take care of, I couldn’t imagine Robyn joining them to live hand to mouth not knowing where the next meal is coming from, she wanted the fame and fortune, my main surprise was how cruel they were doing all this just 3 weeks after Christine had given birth to truly, how she didn’t slap both of them is beyond me
THREE week post birth, during a pregnancy that for all intense and purposes your husband has been cheating with another woman AND not helping you get basic things done, I'd be pissy at the world too.
The die was cast. Robyn and Kody pretended they cared about the other wives - but in reality, it became about them and only them. The other wives became bit players in the Kody and Robyn story. This really played out later - when the decision was made to move to Flagstaff. Robyn acted like she didn’t want to move, but the idea her and Kody’s in the first place. They manipulated the other wives into getting behind it. It turned out to be a disaster financially and the family fell apart. Honestly, I think there was trouble in Las Vegas, that wasn’t shown on the show. Per Paedon, Kody was always at Robyn’s. I think it was too obvious and the other wives resented her. I don’t think Robyn wanted to live next door to the rest of the family and didn’t want the other kids coming to her house all the time - looking for their Dad.
I think they intentionally planned the move, but they also planned to get the other wives so upset that they would leave. They didn't want to be the bad guys. One of my main clues was how he almost IMMEDIATELY turned his ire on Jannelle right after Christine left. Barely a breather & all of a sudden the ONE relationship with the most independent, laid back wife is on the rocks? He REALLY had to work to create that narrative. But it was always planned.
Robyn also "pretended" not to want the McMansion, too. I felt at the time she was overplaying that role. She got exactly what she wanted when they bought that million dollar home.

They didn't want the other wives to leave back then because they needed the money, but they did want the separation of houses... If Christine wouldn't have left he would still be stringing her along... Robyn has been telling Meri for years " there's still a chance, don't give up".... R and K needed the others ladies money and resources to keep up their lifestyle... Kody wanted an excuse to stay at only Robyn's and never go to the other wives houses and he got it...... COVID! Robyn and Kody have been monogamists almost the whole time they have been together... It would not surprise me if Robyn told him to not be intimate with the other wives
So I’ve seen this episode many times. I saw it back when it originally aired, and then I’ve rewatched a couple times since then. Here’s my takeaway: Christine was the most vocal about disliking this whole thing the entire first season. She mentioned that she didn’t even know Robyn and hadn’t met her and kody had already fallen in love. With the cake tasting, she says aloud that Robyn picked the one Kody wanted, and Robyn tried to deflect. Like you said, she’s freshly postpartum, a mother to 5 kids and a newborn, and Kody isn’t helping her out. She tries anyway to participate in the wedding prep and then it’s a slap in the face when she learns that Kody picked the dress, because it only confirms her suspicions. Janelle seems like all she can see during wedding prep is the amount of money being spent, and I don’t blame her because she was the primary breadwinner and the person who handled the family’s finances, which weren’t great before the TLC income. But she’s low maintenance, and she doesn’t want to deal with denying Kody what he wants, so she participates. Meri, in this episode, appears to have finally realized what she’s done by pushing Kody and Robyn together. She comes to the realization that what Robyn wants, she gets, and that Kody isn’t interested in the rest of them anymore. It’s like realizing you’ve invited the wolf into your henhouse. Robyn, in the scene where Kody divulges their secret, realizes that she will have to learn to control Kody. She expected that he would protect her secret, and he didn’t. He really doesn’t ever do that again, and I think it’s because she learned how to better manipulate him and use him against the other wives. But you can see in her face that she’s disappointed in his lack of control, and she has since trained that out of him, as far as protecting her goes. Now all he cares about is protecting her (at least from what he says). And Kody is just an a**hole. Full stop. We learned in this episode that he only cares about what he wants and what makes him happy, just as you said. But we also learned, along with the OG3, that he was willing to forsake them in order to have Robyn, and it’s been that way ever since.
Please don’t tarnish my love for goldens. 🙂 They love to please people and love unconditionally whereas Kody just wants to be pleased and has LOTS of conditions to “earn” his love. I don’t remember this episode but, as they say, hindsight is 20/20. I’d like to say I stopped watching after this but there I was staring at that screen every week. 😡

I think Robyn loves to lord these things over the other women. She's probably sad they left because she needs to feel more special than them, that's my take on Robyn.
Mine too. I don't think she wanted to b the only wife, just the most loved and the one he was with most. I think this is because her mother was a second wife who only got the leftovers when it came to time and attention. That left the kids also getting the leftovers for the same. This is her attempt to fix that for herself, and she ruined 3 other marriages doing it. I don't think she regretted it until she realized she now has kody ( a verbally abusive narcissist) all to herself. Her permanent frown shows just how much she's enjoying her prize.
I think this episode really highlighted to the other wives that Robyn wasn't there for them. She was willing to damage her relationships with the other wives from the beginning to put kody first. They see that she is there for the man...not the family. And I think they also see how much kody is eating that up. She is rocking the boat and shaking up family dynamics, to the detriment of the existing wives. That being said, I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, and that Robyn is doing anything wrong...she is in a hard spot because she desperately needs this to work out for her. I don't think she is the type of person who can do it on her own. She needs someone to save her, and kody fit the bill. So of course she is going to put him first. But kody doesn't have the couth to even try to pretend that he is 100% consumed and enamored by Robyn, and he makes it painfully clear to the other wives that she is ALREADY the favorite. And the wedding hasn't even happened yet.
I remember Robyn doing that pseudo crying thing she does over the fact that her about-to-be sister wives were hurting because of Kody's choices. Robyn was so upset that they "had" to be hurt. She cried and suffered herself because she didn't want them to feel bad. She took no responsibility, she gave no responsibility to Kody. Instead she claimed that it was the demands inherent in polygamy that created the devastation of the wives. I thought that was bullswap and a very real reflection of her personality. She "suffers". Yet somehow she winds up with it all.
Yes! This episode says it all: the wives are not happy, Cody doesn’t care what they think, he’s plowing ahead so he can have a shiny new toy. That’s why he acts so over the top, he’s is working hard to ignore the fact that this marriage to Robyn is not something he should go forward with.
I am so glad you are watching the early episodes. I really enjoyed your comments on the recent episodes; however, to understand some of the enmity that the viewers have towards Robyn, and the change apparent in Kody since marrying Robyn, you need to watch the early seasons of the show.
Another important episode to watch is when Christine is at hospital and her water breaks, she calls Kody to get back right away. Watch what Kody and Robyn do.
Another thing you forget to mention about Robyn taking the OG wives dress shopping... Janelle and Christine were both at their heaviest at that point and Christine would have been especially vulnerable about her appearance, having so recently given birth. But here's skinny Robyn, strutting her stuff and acting like the hot, new thing and clearly not caring about anyone's feelings. Christine has admitted that she hated her own ill-fitting, homemade wedding dress and Janelle just wore a regular dress she already owned. Neither of them had anything special when they married Kody and then they got to sit and watch Robyn flaunt herself in pretty, store bought dresses and were expected to be supportive and complimentary. Then, after enduring that humiliating trip to the bridal shop, they find out it was a complete sham because Robyn had aleeady chosen a dress. It was just infuriating.
Remember when Robyn was trying to get the wives invested in my sister wife's closet, and Robyn tells Janelle she wants her to work on plus-size clothing? To me that was so unnecessary and cruel. Unless someone offers, why would you put their body issues out there? That seemed humiliating. It reminds me of a narcissist person I was friends with (no longer connected). She tried to set me up on a date with one of her friends because in her words, we were "both chubby" I am not even overweight and I am mad on behalf of Janelle.
In episode for Madison’s wedding, she wants her dad to be excited about her dress, and more than once he says how he just doesn’t care about dresses and those things..
It’s crystal clear to me that the first three women were very hurt and not happy at all. Robyn got whatever she wanted from day 1. He should’ve divorced them all then just married Robyn right here. No more plural marriage just marriage to Robyn. Could’ve saved a lot of pain and upheaval, imho.

I've been watching this show for yearZZZZ and I don't know why I've never found you...now I'm going to have to rewatch all these years worth of shows just to get your reaction because you are so spot-on. I particularly loved your immediate recognition of the narcissism of Kody. I have hated him since day one. He currently as he now is alone with Robin it would appear, is probably as we speak, out scouting out new sources of supply so while Robin has had her day in the sun... Beware dear, beware! Winter is fast approaching. Turnabout's fairplay! She has been selfish, whiny, and utterly wholesale insincere in her feigned concern for anybody other than herself, her kids and her ruthless relentless pursuit of this one man and yet, that will not save her in the end. I've never believed that Kody was done with just Robin. I think he just put a pause on the accumulation of notches on his belt because he took a particular fancy to her. My grandma used to say it's better to be an old man's darling than a young man's fool and I repeat this saying a lot because it's very true and have you seen Kody's hairline? But I digress. I would not even be surprised if Kody had, and this is just my pure opinion and I'm entitled to it, an addiction to let's say, extramarital pursuits and all the various ways those can be attained these days. Having found myself in the same scenario I recognize all of the hallmark symptoms. I could of course, just have sour grapes. He clearly is a narcissist either way. Whether he is or isn't a SA.
Was just contemplating that maybe this is how Kody treated each new additional wife (tho none as much as Robyn), playing favorites, focusing on his new "toy" (blech), and pretty much ensuring there would be resentment and problems between the wives from day one.
When Robyn came along Kody started rubbing their lovestory in the three women's faces. He started with bad mind games and loved trying to use jealousy to beat them down and keep exploiting them financially.
Robyn’s whole quote about how they should have all been together since day one always felt like an excuse for why she needed more time. She missed out on 16+ years that they had with him, so any extra time she got was just making up for all the years she missed. She needed 11 days for her honeymoon because the OG wives had him for 16 years. She needed time to get her hooks in.
Robyn saying I asked him not to say anything, is the most disgusting to me. They are his wives, she asked him to keep a secret from them. I would never trust her after that action
Season 15 episode 11 the episode when Kody tells Isabel and Christine he won't go to her surgery. How he says bye when he walks away makes me cringe. Kody Brown is a selfish coward.
All these situations were set up by the tv company , we will never know what they would have done if left to there own devices. What can be taken as fact is Cody's responses to these events
Yeah, I think the most disturbing thing to me going back to watch the earlier seasons is that he never really cared about the other wives. I thought maybe the newness of Robyn would wear off over time or his dedication to her grew...but he honestly doesn't care at all that he's hurting his other wives. Glad they're all finding themselves and what makes them happy finally.
I don't think that Christine was complying so much regarding how Kody completely disrespected her. Kody and Robyn started the their games from day 1. The lies, the manipulation etc, from day 1. Christine gave up her own happiness for Kody getting his. And Robyn is not some fool and didn't see what was happening with all of the wives and she and Kody moving forward with their big marriage and honeymoon, with Kody being away for so long with a newborn baby at home, but hell it was for Robyn so anything goes because of that. Both Kody and Robyn are disgusting and clearly doesn't care how their actions impact others.
Actually what I think I’m hearing is Robyn picked the dress but kody was led to believe he did. He actually just agreed with what she wanted. Robyn’s little smirk after kody “dropping the bomb” says it all, selfishly satisfied. I appreciate you commenting how he should have been more focused on the wives he had more time invested than with a new one just entering. Really sad. Robyn realized bellowing Kody’s ego was the way to become his main focused.
Now we know there is way more to the story of how Robyn came to be in the family. What Robyn and Kody were plotting between them. What Robyn was plotting.
Christine never wanted Robyn in the family. She made it clear in the very first episode of the show that having a new wife was going to screw everything up.
Baring in mind Robyn is an actress who has been in a film. Imterestingly the biggest complaint over the seasons was Robyns co-co-dependant behaviours always calling him away from his other wives nights because she would have some fake pretend thing she needed his help with.
Kody did not miss that picking out Robin's dress was a betrayal to the other wives. He said he was "dropping a bomb". I think you are looking at this from a traditional sense. Perhaps, in polygamy picking out the dress and other activities would have created a bond with the wives. Additionally, Kody kissed Robin while engaged and Christine was in labor. That type of activity is reserved for marriage. There was no hope of having a good sister-wife relationship with Robin.
I think the only reason Robin went dress shopping this the wifes was the show and she would have had Kodi pick out her dress regardless of who was paying for it I think sometimes people forgot to factor in the show and what they do to create content and that things would be different without the cameras

For YEARS, Kody deflected all negative attention away from himself and kept the wives pitted against esch other instead When Christine left because of the way she was being treated by KODY, not because of her relationship with her sister wives, it absolutely infuriated Kody. THAT'S why he's so angry. He was fine with Janelle leaving the family for two years because Meri copped the blame for that one. Now Robyn is stuck with this jackwagon and there is nobody to deflect to anymore. Robyn is finally seeing him for who he has become and she ain't rill happy about it.
The fact that he went wife shopping during Christine's pregnancy is so gross. That tells everything about Cody and his narcissistic ignorance to any persons feeling but his.
Don't forget this pregnancy, Truly, is the one that came after a miscarriage! Lots of stuff Christine had to deal with!
In the book she said she had post partum depression too. I can only imagine how hard it all was on her.
I'm rewatching the epidoses as well and all of the wives are accepting at first but you can watch them slowly but surely get slapped over and over again. Christine was left alone with her new baby getting no attention or bonding time together with Kody, Kody is literally crying (Christine said this later) because he misses Robyn so much and is manipulating for more Robyn time, Robyn is SO needy which begins to wear down Janelle (she said so later), and Meri begins to see the writing on the wall and starts to freak out. Kody then uses the fact that the original wives had trouble adjusting against them. He perceives Robyn to be the victim when in fact both Robyn and Kody are selfish, thoughtless and just unaware of anyone else's pain. What a mess!
Janelle said that she was really worried about Christine when she had the miscarriage because she lost so much blood, and it was scary. She thought they were going to lose her. I think she ended up in the hospital. But even when Truely almost died of kidney failure, I don't think Kody bonded more tightly with Christine
Yeesssss. Robin and Cody are completely oblivious to all of this and act like complete immature teenagers without an ounce of care not only for the wives.. but all the other kids as well!
To me it’s the fact that Robyn is never required to bring any real money into the family. I had long suspected that her home was lavish compared to the others in Las Vegas. None of the other family members are invited in the house, no filming. The women had every right to fume and fuss.
Robin entering into a family (with all her debt and all those kids, plus Christine about to have another baby) wanting to have such an expensive wedding and long honeymoon tells you exactly what kind of "sister" wife she's going to be.
It tells you what kind of a person she is all around. She is manipulative and her focus is on divide and conquer. Christin figured it out a long time ago, Meri, not so much.

When I refer to this episode, I usually do because I think it shows the foundation with which Robyn started her relationships with her other sister wives. From the very first thing she did, she hurt these women...she lied to them. So, it shows why the others don't trust her...and I don't blame them.

Completely agree. She set the tone for her relationships with the other wives. She wanted to show she was the Alpha wife. The others would be dependent on her to dictate the relationship that they had with Kody. Then the final nail was the divorce from Meri and legal marriage to Robyn. She wanted to have another party to celebrate but Kody said no.
I agree it was a lie and cruel however, it was Kody who was the one who practically jumped out of his chair and couldn’t wait to tell them all that he picked the dress out for Robyn. He was the one who told her not to tell the others then he couldn’t wait to take the credit. Season 17 ,the way in which Robyn calls Christine a liar about saying only Kody and her had a great relationship,even when Christine says I didn't say that ,sweet Robyn that isn't a bully was sure making me see who she really is ,a snake a deceitful woman if I were Christine I wouldn't have been so accepting of her comments I would have gotten up and slapped her right on her cheeky cheeky face .
Robyn asked Kody NOT to tell the other wives that he picked the dress. And he did it anyway, knowing the other wives would be upset and it would erode their trust in Robyn. That's why he says he's about to drop a bomb...he knows it's going to create drama and hurt feelings. And he does it anyway.

Poor Christine was pregnant WHILE Kody is dating this new woman, gave birth recently before this wedding, she's in her post-partum recovery, knows her wedding was nothing compared to this lavish TLC production, and has to play nice and sweet with this woman, who clearly doesn't give a S&*T about any of them.

What in the world made Robyn think that parading around modeling wedding dresses in front of his postpartum wife was a good idea anyway? I feel like she was rubbing it in their faces! Salt in the wound! Then to find out that she put them through that for nothing! Proving that she didn’t want their opinions. She wanted to show off.
It’s also like after she gave birth to one of her kids she asked Meri, if she wanted her to be her surrogate? A woman who couldn’t bear more children. That felt more like a dig than an offer.

This was definitely the episode that made me really dislike Robyn. She seemed sweet and likable at first, and this was the episode that (in my opinion) revealed that she did not care about her sister wives or building a relationship with them. I had a mistrust of her after this episode, which is hilarious because it's so early on in the show. I think this was the episode that made Robyn into the villain in many viewer's eyes!
This is where Robyn told Kody they were supposed to keep it a secret that they went off and picked out the wedding dress. The other wives feel 'played', and they WERE played. Then to find out Robyn expected Kody to lie (by omission) about it. Shows her character 100%. Also it shows Kody's. She's a snake, and he's a self-centered, unloving, uncaring, narcissistic assh*le. All his 'feelings' about people are for show. I don't think he even loves his own kids, and maybe not even Robyn. Just wait. Nobody with that ugly an expression is a good person.
Me too. That and her thinking that while she was engaged to Kody that she deserved the same amount of time with him as his wives. Also that they broke the kissing rule and that Kody had to be dragged back barely in time for Truely’s birth. And that he took off on a two week honeymoon with Robyn when Christine had just had a baby and there were all the kids at home. Nobe of the additional wives got a party or a trip. And now I’m remembering that she kicked the dog. Oh, boy, it just keeps on coming. I started out to only say a couple of things and it just snowballed.
Imagine if we knew about Robyn stealing one of Christine’s children to be her nanny, for months, and then never being kind to Christine after that. How much more differently we would have felt toward Robyn. Oh, and the dog kicking also.

The one thing that sticks out to me whenever I see the scene where Cody indicates "he picked the dress" is the face he made. He thought he was extremely cute and was so proud of himself. His behavior was obviously not cute.
So many other things. 1. The farce that the other wives were involved in the selection of the dress. 2. What groom is ever involved in picking out a wedding dress. It's verboten, even in the most forward thinking couples. 3. From the beginning he didn't care how his current wives felt. 4. This episode demonstrates how Cody tried to rewrite history. He likes to say that Christine never tried with the other wives. One can see in this episode how Christine was upset but then felt for Robyn and apologized for her behavior and asked for forgiveness AFTER she was the one who was lied to, deceived, put behind an other who was supposed to be an equal.
Christine tried the hardest with Robyn, and Robyn took full advantage of Christine’s deference and manipulated and used all of those insecurities against her to hurt her deeply.
Robyn had no idea who she was, she thought she needed a man to be whole. And she needed to be the head wife to be happy. She did not think at all about the happiness or friendships or compromised she would need to develop to make this family that she wanted to work.
After Christine walked off she refused to talk to Kody for 3 days. They brought them all back later dressed in the same clothes to finish the session, which is how they were able to seemingly resolve the issue so quickly.

This episode really shows the other marriages crumbling. Kody never again cared about the other wives or children. Poor Truley was never loved and cherished by Kody as the other babies supposedly were.
I recommend watching season 8 episode 2 when the family is on a roadtrip and Christine is upset with Kody's friend Ken. The way Kody (and the sisterwives) treat Christine in that episode is absolutely appalling

I wouldn't call myself a Sister Wives fan. I watched the first season and have loosely - very loosely kept tabs on what's happened on occasion through the years. But I would 100% love to see Christine's wedding prep and wedding. I'm immensely grateful they all broke free of Kody and the insanity that is polygamy. I knew from season 1 episode 1 that that family was a train wreck in the making. I saw right through Kody and Robyn. The other wives aren't perfect, but I don't think they're evil or schemers.
I hope that Christine and David make a fortune off their wedding and photos! I hope that Cody and Sobin make snide remarks to the audience. This will show how jealous Cody is and how insecure Sobin is of Christine. Sobin has tried to sabotage Christine from day one. Sobin saw Christine as a real threat, real competition. I pray that Christine make a financial killing on her wedding!

The same reason he thinks telling the world he did not love his wives yet said nothing and stayed in the marriages made him the good guy. Kody's focus is on what he wants and how he is perceived. Robyn didn't want to tell the other wives he picked out the dress to preserve the one experience they had in the wedding prep. However Kody only cared that everyone would see the dress and know that HE picked that one.

Janelle had tears in her eyes also. It's been mentioned a bunch of times on the show that they married almost in secret, no wedding to speak of and certainly no white dress (for her own second marriage). It was a dark dress.... but Robyn got the expensive white one that Kody picked out. It was heart wrenching to me, I already liked these women. Astounding also.

I vaguely remember one of the first episodes where Christine was in the hospital and had just given birth to Truely. Cody came to see baby and mother, and brought Robin along. I was appalled. It was so thoughtless of him to drag in the new squeeze hours after Christine gave birth to their child. Even in plural marriage there should be some private moments. If Cody was too stupid to realize that that was mean and tone deaf, his "fiance" should have told him. Apparently, she dosen't know any better either.

I founds Season 13 especially telling. This is the season when Kody changes from nice Kody to visibly angry and manipulative Kody... The first 4 episodes show how Mary wants to buy the BNB... Kody dangles a carrot of possible help to her, but after she says the family will not be equity partners he pulls his support. When Mary is successful in acquiring the BNB he is almost livid.. it almost looked like he sent the wife's in to find out if she was going to include them in the profits even though they couldn't help financially. Next thing you know he is proposing a move.

Good point. I think that Robyn and Cody realized that after Mary got the bnb and the catfish incident that if Mary left there cash cow would be gone. I think that was also part of the move to Arizona.
There were several references to being un-happy with polygamy from Kody after these episodes as well. Make me think Kody and Robin conspired to set themselves and only themselves up for prosperity. For some reason this reminds me of when Robin took all the SW shopping for her wedding dress and made them think she (Robin) cared about their opinions and participation. In reality Kody and Robin disregarded the Sw's completely and did their own thing.

I believe they planned to take the equity from all the homes, buy the first home they rented (remember how pretty it was?) and make the other wives so unhappy that they would leave. I think K negotiated poorly on that first house so the owner sold it out from under them. If you remember the episode where they got the phone call about the Coyote land, Kody had a VERY weird reaction to the news, almost immediate regret, then intense guilt, then a "what the hell." He knew from that point there was no turning back on the plan. And he immediately started distancing himself from all the children except Robyn's.
@lbarmstrong1 I need to find that episode and re watch it. I didn't notice that reaction. But yes I definitely see that Robin and Kody were conspiring. Even with the one house idea. That would ultimately be a home for Robin and her kids if anything was to happen to Kody... they would have pushed all of the sisterwives away frombit.
Cody thought he was winning the sexual lottery. He paid off her debts. He got her a nanny. She has never worked a day since she got married. Robyn is an operator. It will be interesting to see what happens when she files for divorce.
I don't think she will ever divorce him tbh. I think she knows she has a good deal with him there, so she doesn't work. Even if she gets half of the house and car, it won't sustain her all her life and through retirement. At least with Kody, she knows she doesn't have to work and can watch him struggle to bring home the bacon.
If they liquidated all their assets and she got half plus child support that would tide her over till she got someone else to take Kody's place. Maybe Kody has a girlfriend in Vegas. That may be the other reason he spends so much time there and wants to move back to Vegas.
She will divorce him!!! No money, no Kody. If he can reject sex for not being respectful, well Robyn will do the same thing.

I think you should review the episode where Christine is going into labor with Truly, and Kody is sucking face with Robyn instead of being there for his pregnant wife, who is about to deliver their child.
Also: he has the nerve to ask the doctor, while Christine is having contractions, about fertility treatments for his first wife. I find his timing, completely immature, irresponsible, and extremely rude.
It was braggadocio about all the children he's "sired." Ugh.
He was all about "if Meri could just have another baby, she'll be happier."

In the sister wives book it’s stated that after hearing Kody picked the dress, Christine left the set and didn’t return for 3 days! On the show it looks like she just took a short break
I have to say that I didn’t pick up on this at the time, but I do think this was a huge foreshadowing moment (especially after kissing her before marriage) showing that Kody was willing to give this wife special treatment and treat her differently from his other 3. At the time, I think I just felt so sad for Christine that she had to deal with all of this alongside of being pregnant and giving birth.
It was also another early example of Robyn doing things that she knew would upset the other wives, but she did it anyway and had wanted to keep it a secret (same with their initial courtship, multiple kisses before marrying, and her 1st pregnancy). She was definitely most interested in getting the man for herself and her kids, not the family
Gosh I disagree again… Robin didn’t wait to make choices because she’s codependent. (And ps, she’s just full on dependent as far as support and financially… kept woman) she waited to give her best customer his choice. She is trying to buy Cody in. His wedding, him dressing her like a doll. She could care less about the dress and cake, what will make Cody feel like he got what he wanted. The customer is always right.

You hit the nail on the head with everything you said. Robyn prancing herself around in front of the other wives was sickening. They looked like the mothers of the bride - not sister wives. Christine should have packed up and left Kody right then.
This was the beginning of the end for the other three wives and I feel like they realized it
Kody sealed his fate the moment his disregarded the negative and hurtful impact his choice to not only go with Robyn and pick out the dress, but be so excited to hurt these others wives on tv by the way. and set a bad tone for the beginning of this relationship between these women. It was his absolute worst moment.
From that show onward I realized Robyn was really enjoying being on camera and Kody was so immature he didn't care at all about how his other wives and children felt.
Robyn knew that the dress shopping was going to hurt the other wives and she didn’t care. Robyn has always been manipulative. This episode was when Christine knew Robyn couldn’t be trusted and she put a wall up on not trying to be friends with Robyn.
You can immediately see Christine’s stress and physical signs of anxiety like increased respiratory rate and Robyn’s shame and embarrassment
Robyns family says her marriage fell apart when she found out about "sister wives". They insinuated she was obsessed with the idea of being famous.
I truly believe she planned it all because of hearing about it. Why else would she leave her kids with her mom and drive 4/5 hours away to attend church and go to a dance.

Robyn made such a big deal out of including the wives in the wedding planning, I thought the three were touched and pleased by her consideration. In these days brides and groom have a reveal where the groom sees the bride prior to the wedding and they take pictures before the wedding. In my day it was considered bad luck if the groom sees the bride before the wedding on the wedding day. There was a build up of excitement when the music started playing and each bridesmaid walks down the aisle. Everyone is in place, the doors open and there is the bride, mostly beautiful because she’s glowing and it’s a rare man that doesn’t have his breathe taken away and even a tear in his eye when he sees her for the first time. Okay I exaggerated hoping to build that anticipation so maybe you can understand how the bride feels About this “right of passage” no matter how old she is when she marries. Probably for the first time Robyn’s mask is torn off, she was willing to lie and betray the other wives. If she hadn’t made such a big deal about wanting to include them (she is marrying them too) it may not had hurt them as much. Clearly she has no intention of allowing them the honor of helping her pick her dress, she couldn’t decide and she was going to go home and think about it, blah, blah, blah. Kody’s behavior, his glee in letting the wives know he helped pick the dress clearly showed his disregard how they might feel, Robyn clearly was uncomfortable. She knew what she had done was hurtful and a very wrong way to enter their lives, she played them. That’s where any chance of it working out were dashed. Robyn’s response, “I didn’t think they would have to know”, she’s sorry, not because of what she did to them, she’s sorry she got caught. The tears, (not) I am hurt and sad that this hurt you was bull and they all know it. Kody was in his own bubble, with the, what’s going on? Why is everyone so upset? Etc hurts the wives even more. This episode is the beginning of the end… it destroyed any trust or joy the wives were feeling that Robyn wanted to be a sister wife. She had no idea that Kody was going to out her. She joined the “pack” on the worst foot ever. I imagine at that moment every wife watching the episode felt betrayed and outright lied to as the 3 wives. That’s where fans started to turn against Robyn, the no tears winder. Christine getting up and walking out expressed how everyone was feeling. And furthermore if there was ever a time when Kody shouldn’t have been courting and marrying it was when one wife was so very pregnant and needing his attention. You would think after 13 kids Kody would have learned you don’t mess with a pregnant woman if you ever want their marriage to ever be the same. Ask any fan, especially those watching that were pregnant how they felt and you would take a deep breathe and lowered their head and back off. There was more then one man getting into bed that night with his pregnant wife that lasts sound before sleep was “if you want to live you better never do anything like that to me” and it wasn’t about a new wife.

I think it was totally inconsiderate of Robyn and Kody choosing the dress after the sister wives had gone shopping with her they obviously wanted to be included and it was like Robyn and Kody were telling them it was only the 2 of them not anyone else, the timing was just so cruel against ALL 3 of the original wives who had filled for bankruptcies all at different times, they had very little money and a lot of children to take care of, I couldn’t imagine Robyn joining them to live hand to mouth not knowing where the next meal is coming from, she wanted the fame and fortune, my main surprise was how cruel they were doing all this just 3 weeks after Christine had given birth to truly, how she didn’t slap both of them is beyond me
THREE week post birth, during a pregnancy that for all intense and purposes your husband has been cheating with another woman AND not helping you get basic things done, I'd be pissy at the world too.

The die was cast. Robyn and Kody pretended they cared about the other wives - but in reality, it became about them and only them. The other wives became bit players in the Kody and Robyn story.
This really played out later - when the decision was made to move to Flagstaff. Robyn acted like she didn’t want to move, but the idea her and Kody’s in the first place. They manipulated the other wives into getting behind it. It turned out to be a disaster financially and the family fell apart.
Honestly, I think there was trouble in Las Vegas, that wasn’t shown on the show. Per Paedon, Kody was always at Robyn’s. I think it was too obvious and the other wives resented her. I don’t think Robyn wanted to live next door to the rest of the family and didn’t want the other kids coming to her house all the time - looking for their Dad.
I think they intentionally planned the move, but they also planned to get the other wives so upset that they would leave. They didn't want to be the bad guys. One of my main clues was how he almost IMMEDIATELY turned his ire on Jannelle right after Christine left. Barely a breather & all of a sudden the ONE relationship with the most independent, laid back wife is on the rocks? He REALLY had to work to create that narrative. But it was always planned.
Robyn also "pretended" not to want the McMansion, too. I felt at the time she was overplaying that role. She got exactly what she wanted when they bought that million dollar home.

They didn't want the other wives to leave back then because they needed the money, but they did want the separation of houses... If Christine wouldn't have left he would still be stringing her along... Robyn has been telling Meri for years " there's still a chance, don't give up".... R and K needed the others ladies money and resources to keep up their lifestyle... Kody wanted an excuse to stay at only Robyn's and never go to the other wives houses and he got it...... COVID! Robyn and Kody have been monogamists almost the whole time they have been together... It would not surprise me if Robyn told him to not be intimate with the other wives
So I’ve seen this episode many times. I saw it back when it originally aired, and then I’ve rewatched a couple times since then. Here’s my takeaway:
Christine was the most vocal about disliking this whole thing the entire first season. She mentioned that she didn’t even know Robyn and hadn’t met her and kody had already fallen in love. With the cake tasting, she says aloud that Robyn picked the one Kody wanted, and Robyn tried to deflect. Like you said, she’s freshly postpartum, a mother to 5 kids and a newborn, and Kody isn’t helping her out. She tries anyway to participate in the wedding prep and then it’s a slap in the face when she learns that Kody picked the dress, because it only confirms her suspicions.
Janelle seems like all she can see during wedding prep is the amount of money being spent, and I don’t blame her because she was the primary breadwinner and the person who handled the family’s finances, which weren’t great before the TLC income. But she’s low maintenance, and she doesn’t want to deal with denying Kody what he wants, so she participates.
Meri, in this episode, appears to have finally realized what she’s done by pushing Kody and Robyn together. She comes to the realization that what Robyn wants, she gets, and that Kody isn’t interested in the rest of them anymore. It’s like realizing you’ve invited the wolf into your henhouse.
Robyn, in the scene where Kody divulges their secret, realizes that she will have to learn to control Kody. She expected that he would protect her secret, and he didn’t. He really doesn’t ever do that again, and I think it’s because she learned how to better manipulate him and use him against the other wives. But you can see in her face that she’s disappointed in his lack of control, and she has since trained that out of him, as far as protecting her goes. Now all he cares about is protecting her (at least from what he says).
And Kody is just an a**hole. Full stop. We learned in this episode that he only cares about what he wants and what makes him happy, just as you said. But we also learned, along with the OG3, that he was willing to forsake them in order to have Robyn, and it’s been that way ever since.
kody had golden retriever vibes throughout this period of the show.
Please don’t tarnish my love for goldens. 🙂 They love to please people and love unconditionally whereas Kody just wants to be pleased and has LOTS of conditions to “earn” his love. I don’t remember this episode but, as they say, hindsight is 20/20. I’d like to say I stopped watching after this but there I was staring at that screen every week. 😡

I think Robyn loves to lord these things over the other women. She's probably sad they left because she needs to feel more special than them, that's my take on Robyn.
Mine too. I don't think she wanted to b the only wife, just the most loved and the one he was with most. I think this is because her mother was a second wife who only got the leftovers when it came to time and attention. That left the kids also getting the leftovers for the same. This is her attempt to fix that for herself, and she ruined 3 other marriages doing it. I don't think she regretted it until she realized she now has kody ( a verbally abusive narcissist) all to herself. Her permanent frown shows just how much she's enjoying her prize.
Yeah it's hard for her to be "the favorite wife" when she's the only wife.

I think this episode really highlighted to the other wives that Robyn wasn't there for them. She was willing to damage her relationships with the other wives from the beginning to put kody first. They see that she is there for the man...not the family. And I think they also see how much kody is eating that up. She is rocking the boat and shaking up family dynamics, to the detriment of the existing wives. That being said, I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing, and that Robyn is doing anything wrong...she is in a hard spot because she desperately needs this to work out for her. I don't think she is the type of person who can do it on her own. She needs someone to save her, and kody fit the bill. So of course she is going to put him first. But kody doesn't have the couth to even try to pretend that he is 100% consumed and enamored by Robyn, and he makes it painfully clear to the other wives that she is ALREADY the favorite. And the wedding hasn't even happened yet.

I remember Robyn doing that pseudo crying thing she does over the fact that her about-to-be sister wives were hurting because of Kody's choices. Robyn was so upset that they "had" to be hurt. She cried and suffered herself because she didn't want them to feel bad. She took no responsibility, she gave no responsibility to Kody. Instead she claimed that it was the demands inherent in polygamy that created the devastation of the wives. I thought that was bullswap and a very real reflection of her personality. She "suffers". Yet somehow she winds up with it all.
It’s hard attending a wedding with a six month old (I had to twice with different babies) I can’t imagine if my husband was the groom 🙄
Yes! This episode says it all: the wives are not happy, Cody doesn’t care what they think, he’s plowing ahead so he can have a shiny new toy. That’s why he acts so over the top, he’s is working hard to ignore the fact that this marriage to Robyn is not something he should go forward with.
I truly believe that the three wives should have stood their grounds and have a backbone. Allegedly, they all were supposed to be in agreement.
I am so glad you are watching the early episodes. I really enjoyed your comments on the recent episodes; however, to understand some of the enmity that the viewers have towards Robyn, and the change apparent in Kody since marrying Robyn, you need to watch the early seasons of the show.
I feel Kody was a fool in this episode.
Another important episode to watch is when Christine is at hospital and her water breaks, she calls Kody to get back right away. Watch what Kody and Robyn do.
Another thing you forget to mention about Robyn taking the OG wives dress shopping... Janelle and Christine were both at their heaviest at that point and Christine would have been especially vulnerable about her appearance, having so recently given birth. But here's skinny Robyn, strutting her stuff and acting like the hot, new thing and clearly not caring about anyone's feelings. Christine has admitted that she hated her own ill-fitting, homemade wedding dress and Janelle just wore a regular dress she already owned. Neither of them had anything special when they married Kody and then they got to sit and watch Robyn flaunt herself in pretty, store bought dresses and were expected to be supportive and complimentary. Then, after enduring that humiliating trip to the bridal shop, they find out it was a complete sham because Robyn had aleeady chosen a dress. It was just infuriating.
Remember when Robyn was trying to get the wives invested in my sister wife's closet, and Robyn tells Janelle she wants her to work on plus-size clothing? To me that was so unnecessary and cruel. Unless someone offers, why would you put their body issues out there? That seemed humiliating. It reminds me of a narcissist person I was friends with (no longer connected). She tried to set me up on a date with one of her friends because in her words, we were "both chubby" I am not even overweight and I am mad on behalf of Janelle.
In episode for Madison’s wedding, she wants her dad to be excited about her dress, and more than once he says how he just doesn’t care about dresses and those things..
She stabbed the other sister wives in the back! That was the moment i looked at her like omg! How could u!! I already knew how kody was
It’s crystal clear to me that the first three women were very hurt and not happy at all. Robyn got whatever she wanted from day 1. He should’ve divorced them all then just married Robyn right here. No more plural marriage just marriage to Robyn. Could’ve saved a lot of pain and upheaval, imho.
Don’t let these 5 adults fool you. “Sister Wife’s” had to be a successful series it’s all about the $$$. 5 adults, a few miserable, conned their fans for years. I actually believed Kody was visiting each wife every 4th night, spending quality time together. 🤥

I've been watching this show for yearZZZZ and I don't know why I've never found you...now I'm going to have to rewatch all these years worth of shows just to get your reaction because you are so spot-on. I particularly loved your immediate recognition of the narcissism of Kody. I have hated him since day one. He currently as he now is alone with Robin it would appear, is probably as we speak, out scouting out new sources of supply so while Robin has had her day in the sun... Beware dear, beware! Winter is fast approaching. Turnabout's fairplay! She has been selfish, whiny, and utterly wholesale insincere in her feigned concern for anybody other than herself, her kids and her ruthless relentless pursuit of this one man and yet, that will not save her in the end. I've never believed that Kody was done with just Robin. I think he just put a pause on the accumulation of notches on his belt because he took a particular fancy to her. My grandma used to say it's better to be an old man's darling than a young man's fool and I repeat this saying a lot because it's very true and have you seen Kody's hairline? But I digress. I would not even be surprised if Kody had, and this is just my pure opinion and I'm entitled to it, an addiction to let's say, extramarital pursuits and all the various ways those can be attained these days. Having found myself in the same scenario I recognize all of the hallmark symptoms. I could of course, just have sour grapes. He clearly is a narcissist either way. Whether he is or isn't a SA.

Was just contemplating that maybe this is how Kody treated each new additional wife (tho none as much as Robyn), playing favorites, focusing on his new "toy" (blech), and pretty much ensuring there would be resentment and problems between the wives from day one.
When Robyn came along Kody started rubbing their lovestory in the three women's faces. He started with bad mind games and loved trying to use jealousy to beat them down and keep exploiting them financially.
Robyn’s whole quote about how they should have all been together since day one always felt like an excuse for why she needed more time. She missed out on 16+ years that they had with him, so any extra time she got was just making up for all the years she missed. She needed 11 days for her honeymoon because the OG wives had him for 16 years. She needed time to get her hooks in.
Robyn saying I asked him not to say anything, is the most disgusting to me. They are his wives, she asked him to keep a secret from them. I would never trust her after that action

Season 15 episode 11 the episode when Kody tells Isabel and Christine he won't go to her surgery. How he says bye when he walks away makes me cringe. Kody Brown is a selfish coward.
All these situations were set up by the tv company , we will never know what they would have done if left to there own devices. What can be taken as fact is Cody's responses to these events
Yeah, I think the most disturbing thing to me going back to watch the earlier seasons is that he never really cared about the other wives. I thought maybe the newness of Robyn would wear off over time or his dedication to her grew...but he honestly doesn't care at all that he's hurting his other wives. Glad they're all finding themselves and what makes them happy finally.
I don't think that Christine was complying so much regarding how Kody completely disrespected her. Kody and Robyn started the their games from day 1. The lies, the manipulation etc, from day 1.
Christine gave up her own happiness for Kody getting his. And Robyn is not some fool and didn't see what was happening with all of the wives and she and Kody moving forward with their big marriage and honeymoon, with Kody being away for so long with a newborn baby at home, but hell it was for Robyn so anything goes because of that.
Both Kody and Robyn are disgusting and clearly doesn't care how their actions impact others.
Actually what I think I’m hearing is Robyn picked the dress but kody was led to believe he did. He actually just agreed with what she wanted. Robyn’s little smirk after kody “dropping the bomb” says it all, selfishly satisfied.

Christine never wanted Robyn in the family. She made it clear in the very first episode of the show that having a new wife was going to screw everything up.
A man having more than one wife. How could that possibly be anything but self centred? That’s a prerequisite to this lifestyle.

Baring in mind Robyn is an actress who has been in a film. Imterestingly the biggest complaint over the seasons was Robyns co-co-dependant behaviours always calling him away from his other wives nights because she would have some fake pretend thing she needed his help with.
Kody did not miss that picking out Robin's dress was a betrayal to the other wives. He said he was "dropping a bomb". I think you are looking at this from a traditional sense. Perhaps, in polygamy picking out the dress and other activities would have created a bond with the wives.
Additionally, Kody kissed Robin while engaged and Christine was in labor. That type of activity is reserved for marriage. There was no hope of having a good sister-wife relationship with Robin.

I think the only reason Robin went dress shopping this the wifes was the show and she would have had Kodi pick out her dress regardless of who was paying for it
I think sometimes people forgot to factor in the show and what they do to create content and that things would be different without the cameras
I think Kody knew exactly what picky the dress along with everything else, would break the hearts of the other wives
In prual marriage only the first wife gets a traditional wedding
For YEARS, Kody deflected all negative attention away from himself and kept the wives pitted against esch other instead
When Christine left because of the way she was being treated by KODY, not because of her relationship with her sister wives, it absolutely infuriated Kody.
