I live in Ohio. The landlord of my apartment building hired a roofing contractor to redo the roof of the building. Almost every single car the workers drove to the site everyday had a Florida tag. I don't know if they are here until Florida legislators come to their senses or if they are here permanently. All I know is that they are here, some 1,000 miles away from Florida and they did an amazing job on our roof and took the time to clean up after the job was done. Relying on illegal immigrants for labor, allows an employer to pay under min wage, and ignore safety and workplace regulations The silver lining here is that by forcing illegals out of the state, it will force employers to meet these min standards, or go out of business - however, given the length of time this has been going on, the "go out of business" option is going to be forced on a lot of people.
What is needed is a path to make illegal immigrants legal, so they can be protected under the law, and provide the services the business community needs.

and the saddest thing is that he will not be there when the mess he is leaving has really settled into the Florida economy in a year or two ... Not that he is really there now though.
What he is doing to the farms and the schools, etc. ... It's going to take a while until we see the true cost of these regressive policies. I thought it might be a great land grab (farmlands for developments) but without the basic services that Florida already had, I can't see that being a profitable idea right now. I lived in Florida for 50 years and while I saw people move in, I also saw a lot of people move out for a better life elsewhere as soon as they could..
I keep checking his bio because I can't believe he grew up in the same Florida that I did. But I guess he didn't, because my part of Florida always understood the value of immigrants to our economy. At least I thought most of us did. How he ever got reelected is just beyond my imagination.

There IS a worker VISA program that many companies take advantage of, such as the J1 program. The "problem" is that the GOP continues to try and block people getting those visa's, reducing the number of visa's issued, etc.
Just saying, "well, we need this", doesn't acknowledge the reality of what is happening and been happening for a long LONG time.
Even then, the workers that come in on work visas, such as J1s, are often abused by the employer. Case in point, my wife works at a hotel that regularly get J1 workers to do housekeeping duties (because the American's in the area just won't do the job). Because the owner of the hotel has children that also own other hotels in the area, the J1's work at the one hotel for 8 hrs, then are sent to the OTHER hotel to work, and don't get overtime because the two hotels are "separate chains" under different "ownership".

The weather really isn't his fault. The hurricanes keep coming, raising insurance rates in their paths.

yes we did and we want more, Florida is greatest place right now. The roads get packed more and more with out of state plates and our houses are selling left and right, every one is moving here. My house got an offer for 5k OVER what I asked for and I sold it in 5 weeks from listing it, they were so desperate to live here they legit said here is 5k OVER because they didn't want to lose out on buying a house.

@@DCFunBud Except if you listen to what people are saying it's not the hurricanes causing the issue, but massive fraud and lawsuits. Florida accounts for 9% of Homeowner insurance claims in the country buy 79% of the lawsuits. This is something that the Governor and legislator should be able to address.
