Yup, the left recognizes him and what he did. Now, compare that to even a few weeks ago. After Trump was whisked to the hospital, Pence publicly wished him well and complimented him. Trump ignored it. But guess who didn't? The Maga crowd. They flooded his Tweet with the kinds of words I can't repeat on here. They have been non-stop since 2021!!! Imagine that. Imagine the kind of people that see this, and still want to be in Trump's cabinet. They don't see the lasting vitriol as something that could happen to them, they see it as a mass of people to hold power over that is up for grabs. Pure evil.

@@Anita-gp1gv the football wasn't relevant that day, as it's not active, since POTUS still was in command.
That he didn't retreat, thereby effectively shutting down the national government is important for legal reasons. Had he retreated, government would then have been overwhelmed and no longer in charge and Trump could've declared martial law for the entire District. That's established case law going back to Lincoln, who was told by the SCOTUS that as long as the courts were in session, martial law would be unlawful and by extension, the legislative or even executive branch. In that case, Lincoln wanting to declare martial law in a Great Lakes state because of the presence of a POW camp full of Confederate prisoners.
I've absolutely no faith that Trump would ever relinquish that power once declared and he'd just find excuse after excuse to retain it and we'd likely still be under martial law under a de facto emperor Trump to this very day.

The problem is that Pence only made a stand that one time.
Trump and his cronies have continued to push the Big Lie, and Pence is saying nothing to counter this.
That's because he fears what having to deal with an angry MAGA crowd for the rest of his life would be like.
There will be death threats sent to him, and his family. He won't ever be allowed to attend another Republican Party gathering.
Pence must know what they were planning to do, meaning that he was aware of the plan to illegally overturn the election results.
By remaining silent on the matter (and not giving over what he knows or has of their plans to the Committee) Pence is being, in effect, an accomplice to the crime.
He may have done the correct thing on that fateful day. But let's not forget that he has since done nothing to stop the Big Lie from being spread. In fact he's publicly spoken about trying to re-establish a connection with Trump.
No - It's clear to me that Pence is still guilty of being an accomplice. In fact the longer he remains silent and does not speak out against Trump and his co-conspirators, the less respect he deserves from anyone. Because what he's doing now is shielding Trump and the others.

As a Republican I've never been able to tolerate Pence, especially once he aligned himself with Trump. I have fully appreciated the magnitude of his refusal to cooperate in a coup against the US govt on Jan 6th.
I didn't know until now that he had also refused to leave the building that day. Although I knew why congress refused to leave & I understood why.

Thank Ruben Gallego and Dan Quayle: Gallego kept representatives on site and former VP Quayle advised Pence that he had to stay and certify those votes. There was no other option, there was no room for interpretation or differences of opinion.
Neither Quayle nor Pence were the brightest or the most clever of men. Pedantic, annoying, dull, misguided zealots, both.
Useful tools and idiots sent to Washington by the GOP to put the brakes on and to be the straight men in the comedy routines that were their running mates’ years in office. For presidents too dumb, inexperienced or too power hungry to ably preside over the country if left unwatched and unchecked and without a sideman to run and tell the GOP leaders what their prodigal sons were up to.
What they did know well is The Constitution. They knew parliamentary procedure/rules of order for government bodies/meetings. They understood the assignment and handed it in.
Pence did the very minimum required of him in his role, that day. He did his job as set out in very clear language in the document that governs us all. No more, no less. And he had to call around and get support and aid and cheerleading from others in his party, to do even that little bit that was required of him.
I won’t congratulate him for doing what is expected of him. That’s not heroic. That’s his job. I will not thank him for aligning himself with Trump nor for refusing to speak up afterward. He knew what was coming, he was privy to all or some of the conversations and planning, there is no way he did not know about the slates of fake electors or the Trump call to Georgia when he was “just looking for a few votes”.
He was complicit and accepting, in all that Trump and Trump’s minions did. And had the J6 insurrectionists succeeded in gaining entry to that chamber or gotten their hands on Pelusi or AOC, he would have stayed put and gone along with that too.

(Sadly some want to relegate that passage to the Hebrews at that time.I am not in that camp.) Reders should also remember the many turmoil the Hebrews went through, my particlar focus is on David. How many close calls he went through serving the king? How many times did he runaway and lamented his situation? How many times did he have the opportunity to overthrow the government of, the king, and take the thrown that he KNEW!, was promised to him by the God both he and the King served? How many times he thanked God for his deliverance from the violence of the king? Let us pray, and strive to do better.

We are now at the point in this country that we feel grateful for our leaders when they do their job, our democracy is hanging by the thinnest of threads.

You need to speak for yourself. I have lost faith and trust in our leaders. Can you tell me: 1. Why did Pelosi not want extra police at the capital? 2. Why did the police open some of the door and wave peaceful people inside? 3. Who was the faction of rioters - were they Antifa, or BLM or both? 4. Why are so many still in solitary confinement who were arrested on Jan. 6th without charges and legal representation? Pelosi tried to pull off a coup 1/2 way thru Trump's 1st term - lets take a deep look at her. I have a ton of questions about the election and everything about that being buried. There is a lot that is rotten in D.C. Nothing to do with Jan. 6th but why is Biden willing allowing anyone and everyone through our borders, except Ukrainians? This Administration is willfully destroying our country with all of their screw ups.

That's the narrative they want you to believe. Our democracy is a little off kilter but it is not hanging on by a thread. A handful of useful idiots thinking they could overturn the election is far less dangerous than Trump still being an agitator at large.

Mike Pence in that moment of that day did the one redeeming act that historians will focus as being one of if not the most pivotal acts that essentially saved the US Constitution and the US republic.
Not many are a fan of Pence's political views, but he definitely did his job, unwillingly more than likely, but in the end he did his job.
