I worked in the fields as a child in South Georgia in the sixties and seventies. The labor is the hardest work I have ever done in my 63 years. It was working from sun up till sundown everyday except Sundays. I have the utmost respect for the workers, I thank them and wish them and their families well 🙏
I was a middle child so I didn’t go as often as my older siblings but when I did I kept asking when we would Take a break, it hurt my back and something In the trees made eyes itch like crazy and it was 🥵 many first generation Americans went on to college or started a business Also many who come Here legally are not applying for these type of jobs I met someone who came here legally thanks to his mom and sister and he is painting at home in his nice Air-conditioned room, don’t think he makes much but that’s what he would rather do.
Legal immigrants are welcome. You are not welcome by storming over the border and disregarding our laws. All Illegals must all go back and apply for re-entry from their home country of origin.
@Aurora Lopez Well, you mentioned thanks to the Mom and sister. Where did they come from? They came first. You must be talking about the other problem of "chain migration." Another way, once one of these rats gets in, they turn around and invite the whole damn family up here. This is another program we need to end. America has the right to pick and choose who gets in. Why do we wanna take in every poor bastard that just decides for himself he wants to live here? We should reserve the number of visas issued that meet our national goals and preferences. Redeeming qualities are: Has education (like doctor or whatever) has own money, has own business, no criminal record, etc. We can choose the best and kick out the rest. We simply can't provide opportunities for anyone and everyone who likes our country better than the one they are from. Go home and develop your own country.
I was thinking the same thing, what happens if one of them gets hurt ? I would have asked the farmer how many hours do they work a day ? Do they get lunch ? Do they get two 15 minute breaks a day ?
That's industrial farming for ya. They don't care about the workers health nor the consumer. All about the profit. Buy from small local farms and support a healthier life for both.
Well, what do you suggest hiring American workers? They can complain about how much they make and how hard to work don’t complain when you start paying ridiculous prices for whatever Florida used to produce where is all the Republicans are sitting there complaining about migrants they should be the first wants to be put on that field. Just the majority of my sitting at home collecting welfare disability with no disabilities.
This freaking video brought tears to my eyes…these people came here to avoid joining the cartels (that could actually put a lot more money in their pockets) farmer says “they don’t come here to play obviously”…neither to sell drugs, steal, cheat. I really hope all ilegal immigrants could leave the state so “these people” could experience how STOOPID them and their laws are.
Supporting a labor market that is illegal means that guest workers and other workers cannot ever get a fair wage because they’re importing workers who will work for four dollars an hour. If we eliminated the labor trafficking, that corporations and farmers are doing now, we could have guest migrant workers, making at least a minimum wage, and paying into taxes at the same time. People need to understand what Cesar Chavez was trying to do for farmworkers. He was against importing illegal, immigrant, because it under cut all of the farm workers in the area.
Problem is, these workers make up a small percentage of those crossing the border. Yes, some have good intentions. What about the other 90% coming from 126 different countries?
I wonder what’s going on in that country? They seem like hard workers. Maybe if they had better organization, their country might be a little more improved?
As a truck driver who haul produced for the last 23 years I can tell you what they're not telling you is it's payment the lack of proper restrooms lunch rooms the work is hard not to mention snakes and poisonous animals you have to contend with
Plus 14 bucks an hour. This is agriculture so the farmers don't have to pay time and a half for over time. Imagine working 12-16 hours a day for straight pay. No wonder they can't get citizens to hire on.
Can't feel bad for those who vote against their best interest. They are getting, exactly, what they want. To all those people saying "They are taking our jobs!" What, jobs that you want, have they taken?!?
Exactly! They don’t care about whether that statement is true which it isn’t, they are regurgitating decades old racism to justify treating other human beings like crap. That’s all this country has ever been about.
The next time all those people who state Immigrants are taking American Jobs, I would like someone to counter this ridiculous lie! I thank these migrant workers for doing these jobs.
Democrat voters want our children to be taught to hate the color of their own skin in school. Democrats want to confuse children about their sexuality, teach them perverted sex acts and mutilate their sex organs in horrific sex change operations. Democrats want Biden to send hundreds of billions of dollars to Ukraine for endless war and to pay the Ukrainian people's pensions while millions of Americans are homeless and hungry. Democrats are glad Biden hired 87,000 new IRS agents to persecute American families now struggling under Biden's crushing 100% inflation. Democrats want tens of millions of the world's criminals and poor emptied from prisons into America, destroying the economy, culture and way of life. People who support Biden think they will "build back better" with communism, but they will only succeed in bankrupting America and promoting war, suffering, and death. Those who voted for Biden deserve to have their country destroyed which they actually want. They don't deserve the freedom their fathers and grandfathers fought and died for so it will be taken from them and they will be enslaved and impoverished in the land of their birth.
@Scott Goode Did u even hear the full video. Their incomes are taxed and they pay sales tax for what they buy, property taxes (indirectly for where they live).
So how does it feel for 400 years without pay you were once the 2nd largest voting group. Now you are 3rd after Hispanics that hopped over the border and benefit from affirmative action that was put in place for the 400 years without pay.
I work for a food bank 2 days a week. It's a lot of hard work and heavy lifting. I went out to harvest cabbages one day and after 3 hours I could hardly stand. It's grueling.
When I was a kid in Salem Oregon, we had lots of canneries, my grandfather owned one. There were not a lot of migrants in those days, and high school kids picked, and lots of regular people. I was about 8 or 9 and my brother was about 11. My mom would go with us sometimes. My dad thought we needed to learn how to earn money. LOL. Let me tell you, we picked strawberries..HORRIBLE!!!! Hot in the sun, no shade and we got paid by the "lug" that was a tray of 8 boxes of berries. Of course I ate some of the biggest and juiciest. We then picked pole beans. Better than strawberries. We picked everything, even the big pulpy ones that you don't eat. They were used in baby food. My grandfather packed for Gerber as one of his contracts. I liked picking Boysenberries. Dad would drop us off, including Mom if she was going and sometimes a friend and her kids too, about 8 or 9 in the morning and pick us up by 5 that night. It was a very long day. As for rewarding? Hmmmmmm, I could find something else. I don't see anyone, kids or not, running to do those jobs. The price of your produce will not go down if it rots in the fields and it has done that over the last few years. Now we have the water from snow melt covering what used to be farmland in central California. 8.00 for a watermelon the other day and the farmers are barely making it. Less crops, crops not being picked, more money for fuel and fertilizer. People need to stop the effing culture wars, get their head out of their nether regions, and look at the REAL issues we face.
They’re Conservative but run their businesses using Progressive programs. That’s American politics in a nutshell. Vote for your racial interests, although their are far more important interests to consider.
This conservative also gets government subsidies lol. Most Cuckservatives bitch about handouts and shit and here they are. Farms are specially heavily subsidized by the govt
This is an outstanding example of what journalism should be about...presenting the facts, no matter the direction from which they come, and then reporting it, without bias, in an objective manner that allows the viewing public to see for themselves what is happening. Great job!
Those jobs used to be kids working summer loading watermelons and cantelopes , etc. I had alot of friends who lived around me who loaded them during the summer for less than minimum wage. They would pay by the load. At lunch they would buy them a drink and something to eat. The kids needed the money for things such as gas for there 4wheelers , dirtbikes , etc. And anything they wanted to buy. Parents were not sorry and worthless like they are today. They give there kids everything and they never understand the value of a dollar . Farmers now live better than most doctors and lawyers by paying mexicans a couple dollars a day and housing them all in one house and giving them a van for transportation. Its nothing more than legalized slavery. Period. I know. We did it on our farm for years until my father died 13 years ago. I no longer farm. But i lived it.
“I don’t support every immigrant coming here. Just the ones that I can pay the bare minimum, greatly over work, and exploit for ridiculous financial gain”
Yes. I too caught that sentiment from the admitted conservative. They can't deny the fact they disagree with this law, but they won't admit that conservatives in power to change the immigration laws aren't doing the job correctly. You can't hang on to both sides of the fence 'cause you're gonna fall off sometime sooner or later. Fix immigration, these people are hard working human beings who can help our economy here and they deserve the opportunity to a more simplified immigration.
That’s kinda the conservative position from 15-20 years ago but since trump and sessions zero tolerance it’s pretty much back to “fuck their cheap labour driving down our wages, deport if not incarcerate them and once we get our walk built then we can maybe talk about immigration reform.”
Upset about what? We don't want illegals. Come work here legally then you're fine. How hard is that for you to understand? Everyone on that farm was legally allowed to work
Same with EPA. They voted for trumpo to lower EPA regs and suddenly these southern yokels got their rivers and streams polluted and couldn't figure out why.
@Gaye Lorde they are from North America by blood line and inheritance. Mexico is a political jurisdiction existing ONLY on paper. the land is Al morroco north west ammexem. You will be deported before they will be because you still think US CITIZENS have rights when they don’t.
This is what happens when you set your prices based on foreign labor. No American citizen wants the job because it’s not a living wage. But they find someone on foreign soil who will take half the pay because in their country the money goes twice as far.
This type of work is the very reason I joined the military after high school. I worked the fields in the San Joaquin Valley picking peaches, apricots, cherries and grapes as a teenager. "There's got to be a better way to make a living" is what I said to myself one day after a long hot day of intense labor. Yes, Marine Corps boot camp is actually easier than picking fruits in the hot CA sun. The US government actually cares if you get heat stroke or heat exhaustion, your typical farm owner, not so much.

Me too. 69 yrs. old and also from San Joaquin Valley CA. In those days most of us worked the fields or canneries during and after high school. Then we took advantage of inexpensive college tuition to get a education and bought homes using low interest loans while working for companies with great union wages and benefits. As boomers we worked hard and then benefited from government programs meant to help us become solidly middle class citizens. All gone now! Corporate hell scape everywhere sucking the life from us ALL! Cheated out of our homes while big Pharma sucks our blood for record profits. I can't speak for all boomers, but, I can't wait to die to end my misery.
Haha! I'm thinking the same thing. I bet most of us are! I couldn't last either. Imagine bending down and picking up watermelon after watermelon in the heat like that? Sheeeit...
The sad part is the farmers pay cheap, and sometimes rob their wages and threaten them. And so do the contractors. And the worst part is some of these contractors are latino themselves. So there should be a overseers in these guest worker programs. Just like regular jobs have worker rights.
This is exactly what Cesar Chavez was talking about. Guest workers and other workers cannot ever compete with someone that’s willing to work for four dollars an hour. If people want to see, the wage is actually going up, they need to stop importing trafficked labor.
Florida is about to learn a very expensive lesson just like Alabama did almost a decade ago. The workers deserve quality working conditions and pay and the ability to gain citizenship. Our nation needs more and more hardworking and honest people.
Our nation could also dispose the GOP trash to become better! Starting with the Supreme Court, Congress, and the dumb portion on Social Security, yet supporting criminals like the orange monkey!
And Trump. And would do so again. And if these farmers woke up tomorrow morning and found they no longer had field workers because DeSantis had bused them to New York, they'd shake their heads and still blame the Democrats.

Of course...it's a starvation wage. These migrants tont have mortgages, vehicles, or any bills at all hardly. They can afford to work for slave wages. It's not apples to apples when you compare.
No US citizen would have had their housing and food covered like the guest workers do. What US citizen could do this job and send money to their family? None. US workers were not offered housing and food/medical like the foreign labor was. Move your family to the middle of nowhere to pick watermelons for $14/hour or live close to resources and work at Walmart for $15?
We have no shortage of immigrants. What we need is sustainable immigration through legal channels. What we have at the border is a free-for-all. The current rate of illegal immigration is unsustainable and is bleeding the nation dry. Yes, we need immigration, but not the way in which the current administration is ignoring the border.

Back in the 90's on my farm I was hiring young locals who figured merely by showing up they deserved their pay, so I decided to give a local labour contractor a try. The first day the bus rolled up with about 50 workers and not one was under 65. Despite that subsequently I only used the contractor. Those senior citizens, although costing more per hour (contractors markup) were cheaper because they worked harder. I had to demand they take coffee breaks since they'd prefer to work through to pick up an extra 30 minutes (2X15 minute breaks ) of pay. All my fields were cleaned simultaneously improving crop management, the contractor knew what he was doing so I didn't have to babysit my crew, and, I could spend my time more productivity elsewhere.
Never ceases to amaze me at how people (like these farm owners) continually vote for the GOP and then cry when GOP policies hurt their livelihood in pretty much every facet of life!

these two "managers" are the perfect example of how conservatives consistently vote against their own needs. they need these immigrant laborers, but will vote for anti-immigrant candidates year after year after year, every time for the candidate that will not only make their life harder today, but will also make it harder for them to retire, that have goals in place to make them work until 70 instead of 60, and want to reduce the amount of social security they will have.
Its not anti immigration its anti illegal immigration. The first victim of letting illegals work are the illegals. Sure they are cheap labor under dehumanizing conditions, they don’t deserve to be treated like that. In the end they are criminals who entered the country illegal by human traffickers. Specially construction workers some times don’t get paid and get threatened with getting deported some also do a shitty job because they just care about making a buck to send back, maybe tomorrow they get deported. They don’t pay car insurance and drive illegally. The lists adds on…illegals are a problem and criminals. Sure they do deserve to come legally to the US but not illegally. Look up at Canada, Australia, they just don’t let anyone get in. In Canada if you have a long criminal history you are not even allowed to enter the country. Do you let just about anyone walk inside your home? I sure don’t.

I picked grapes during vandange (grape harvest) in Switzerland and France for a few seasons when I lived in Paris. I only did 1 season in France because the pay and working conditions were so much better in Switzerland. I was usually the only American maybe there would be 1 or 2 more out of a hundred plus workers. I got yelled at because I was taking jobs away from Europeans but not Swiss or French; from Polish and Czech. Everyone thought all Americans were rich at that time. They thought it was unfair that I was taking a job away from someone who made more in 2 or 3 weeks picking grapes than they did in their home countries in 6 months working as professionals like teachers. Guess how many Swiss people picked grapes in Switzerland? Zero. The minimum wage at that time (90s) was $12/hour. That was a lot back then. I wasn't rich and I couldn't have earned $12/hr back then in my home city. But I could understand their point. In my home country, I would have more opportunity to earn a decent living than they did in theirs. Still the point is, Swiss people didn't want to pick grapes for $12/hr. Just like Americans don't want to pick watermelons for $8/hr. So why hassle the people who do actually want to do the work?
Because by some estimates, only 4% of illegal aliens even work in agriculture. I have family in Mexico and if they were getting $500 a week that goes a very long way there. My mom and dad would sometimes send their family members money and just getting like $200 was amazing for them.
Ok, one example. A black person is about 15x more likely to be murdered by a black person than any other race. Yet all we hear from democrats is "hate crime, racism, white supremacy".
I worked for a peach orchard in the early 90’s when I was in high school. The owners would take a truck down to Mexico, to a specific community, and return with a bus full of workers for his farm. He then had a tent city behind the orchard where they resided for the summer. When the summer was over, the Mexican workers would return back to the town via the same bus. During the rest of the year, the orchard owner and other members of the church he belonged to would return to Mexico several times during the year to bring them donations and items the community needed. I always felt it was a symbiotic relationship. And as someone who worked there and made decent money before returning to college where I got paid $3.25 an hour, I can practically guarantee that their money went even further back in Mexico

So much for "They took our jobs!". Here is another good example of that nonsense not being true, out of high school and before college I got a factory job at a plastic factory Sterilite. It was insane difficult, 12 hour shifts, no AC, limited breaks. And well most people there were hispanics. That place was constantly hiring too, if you needed a job apply there and within a week you start, I saw so many start and quit after 1 night.
💯 agree. I did golf course irrigation in Florida for 35 years. Digging and crawling around on my hands and knees in the Florida heat 🔥 I love the heat, but most people have no desire to do that. I witnessed more people quit after 1 day or a week than people who made it a year let alone many years

💯 agree. I did golf course irrigation in Florida for 35 years. Digging and crawling around on my hands and knees in the Florida heat 🔥 I love the heat, but most people have no desire to do that. I witnessed more people quit after 1 day or a week than people who made it a year let alone many years
Yeah they took our jobs as farm laborers, hotel housekeepers, and kitchen grunts, and we want those jobs back! (Said no one ever).
Anthony Bourdain once said (roughly) that without Mexicans the entire hospitality industry would fall apart.
@@G2thesecondpower I remember him saying that, and many of his high end chef friends fully agreed with him. He did a show in Germany where he compared Turkish people there to Latinos in the US.
@@LegendMkr7 I mentioned this in another comment but in my 20's I lived in Tucson Arizona, where of course there are a lot of Mexican and Latin American immigrants. Ironically, It was the easiest place to find a job I have ever lived. On the other hand, I had to leave Portland Oregon, (the land of overly educated white hipsters), because I spent six months looking for work with zero luck.
They really seem to be voting against their own interests.
vote democratic and let the illegals in and pay for them
That's how stupid these people are, lol.
That's the republican mantra, "vote red, regardless of if it negatively effects you or your business. Those damn liberals are ruining this country!!"
There has always been someone, shaking their fist at the port, saying “ahhh they’re gonna take my …”
I remember seeing an old sign that said ,Irish need not apply!! Hmmm
But those that can don’t want to fix the immigration problem
because it’s a wedge issue that they can exploit!!
How come the ones who voted are not there working it ?
Put the MAGAs to work, enough of "Make my Welfare Check Great Again"
LOL the vast majority of people on welfare are registered as Democrats. Let's hear you demand that those Dems get up off their butz and work for that check. I'm waiting...
God bless these workers, whose hands feed us! 🙏 (and their families too!)
Amen
No deport
Put Americans back to work again
i paid for is not free
@@juanlopez-ur8br you couldn’t buy it if their hands didn’t pick it.
I worked on a nursery / tree farm as a young man. These Mexicans are good people and will outwork anybody. We used to work all day long side by side. Some of them lived in tiny trailers on the property with just a big blue jug of water. They were allowed to catch and cook the chickens that roamed the property. After a long, hard day, they’d always invite me to have some chicken and a beer in their trailer even though we couldn’t communicate fully. Just hard working people looking for opportunity and a quiet life.
I have found out most humble folks are very good hearted people.
I have a question for these farmers. How much do you pay the workers? Cause watermelons now are costing between $4 to $6 a piece!!!
People take Them for Granted... Hope This Sheds Some More Light... 🇲🇽 🇺🇸 ✊️
Latinos work hard I know because I’m a Latina and my moms had two jobs so my brother and I had food, roof over our heads and close and she also provided after school activities I went to modern dance classes and we would go on one vacation every year I still don’t know how she did it, and when we received our working papers at 14 she told us go to work. I liked that my mom was that way it built character we were responsible in a very young age.
The government should provide an easier path to citizenship for these workers and their families. And I hope they get Healthcare as well.
Fat chance there will ever be affordable, let alone universal healthcare in the US. Here, it's corporate profits that are prioritized over health and people.
@HolyOutlaw Not easy like that, it depends the state and the proccess most likely can be rejected after pay some thousands in lawyer, that's the true, don't talk under your privilege.
@HolyOutlaw Can i buy crack from you?
@@holyoutlaw3254 so I guess you’re a lawyer and you know exactly how long and the full process for citizenship. Also many of them may not know where to find those resources. The company should provide that for them.
people don't want citizenship nor free healthcare they want a fair shake and not to be always blamed for your governments incompetence!!!
I bet this farmer votes republican so how about he works 16 hours in his fields picking his crops.
"These guys are coming here for a reason." Most immigrants come to a new country for a reason. Jobs, housing, safety.
And a prosperous life
Just like *our* ancestors did.
🇺🇸
Yea, to take back what's rightfully ours.
It's abvious that neither of you two guys Jay or Truth know the difference between a migrant and an immigrant. An immigrant knocks on your door and asks permission to enter, a migrant sneaks through your open back window and makes himself at home. Think of your border in the same way that you think about the sanctity of your house.
@@clifflayne9073AND? They are still working and providing the food your privileged family sits at the dinner table and eats every night!
@@teecharee6069: and legal workers would also do the same jobs if the border was closed. I am NOT privileged simply because I earn an income and fulfill the responsibility of providing for my family. You can still have legal migrant workers, simply allow temporary seasonal workers who don't live permanently in the US. We have similar programs in Canada and they appear to work.
So proud of hard work individuals!!
If they are H2-A visa holders, what’s the problem? They’re legally here as guest workers and have paperwork. The so called DeSantis Law mirrored the Federal Immigration Law that imposes fine on businesses hiring illegal immigrants.
God bless these hard working men. American men, women need to get off their asses!
We need skilled labor in America. Anyone can pick fruit if needed too. We did it before we can do it again. Stop with your Bull 💩.
No one will do that kind of slave labor for 14.00 an hour. Especially when you can find a less demanding job that pays more. Secondly, many immigrants are forced into that line of work because their English isn't that good. Third..14.00 an hour is worth alot more in Mexico.
No they don't. Sit in front of a computer, make waay more money.
You first @Carol Grant
They should get paid more for their hard work. 🙏❤
I really do thank every farm worker out there for they're hard work. But we can't ignore the fact that many farm jobs don't pay enough to cover the bills unless you work over time and not many people are willing to do that for hard labor.
That's correct. Only Hispanics because we have the necessity, and we are used to do it even for less... That's why we do it with a smile (the smile mostly on payday😂)
These farmers are slave owners
We have youth who are capable of doing it.
So in other words, you see the immigrants as slaves. Read what you typed and tell me that doesn’t come off as plantation owner talk.
@greatlakestatedestroyerpet117 Wow, you made no sense ?????? Anybody can work on a farm. My post spoke about low wages. Feel free to re-read.
