    RIP Mike Sexton guy was a tremendous poker player and a great commentator. The poker community lost a legend.

    I totally agree for the first time in a while with Daniel on the Super Stars of Poker comment and how cool of a format it was same as the 25k buyin thingy they had in Europe - both would be awesome Tournament of Champions!

    Miss the days of Mike Sexton, Vince van Patton, Norman chad, Gabe Kaplin, etc who commentated poker for the general public, helping to create the poker boom. After 2009 or 2010, poker got taken over by a bunch of snobby know it all‘s with zero personality, essentially ending any chance of the average person being drawn in to the game, which in the long run is horrible for poker players. It’s a shame really.

      Agree, miss Kaplan a lot. But Hellmuth and Esfandiari do a good job when they comment on Wsop

    • @benoitwaffle5439
      @benoitwaffle5439 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The poker boom was killed from a number of angles. Obviously, the end of legal-ish online poker in the US played a huge role, but the transformation of tv poker from the loose style of Kaplan and Chad to what it is today is a self-induced wound. The November Nine was a terrible idea, and really accelerated the decline of tv poker. The WSOP was a fun little thing to have on tv in the middle of the summer in that window after college sports, the NBA, and NHL were done and before football gets started. It wasn't something the majority of viewers took too seriously. Adding chip counts and knowing the blinds should not have meant the production could not also still make fun of dreamers throwing their money away or pros behaving like idiots.

    At 13:09: "Do you think you made the most from this poker boom era as far as accomplishment goes?" Great question by Remko (as usual).
    A thought experiment... which players got overrated the most in terms of getting fame and fortune relative to their actual accomplishments from that 2003-07 era? I exclude Main Event winners, as that bracelet simply carries a lot of Q-score even if the person did little else (e.g. Jerry Yang, Jamie Gold). I also exclude announcers like Norm and Lon, VVP, etc. No one thinks of them as poker players, so it's not fair to call them overrated as such.
    My initial thought is Annie Duke, but when I actually look at her tourney results from the era, they were solid. Phil Gordon also comes to mind as another early leader in the clubhouse. He happened to win two televised tables at just the right time, and thus went on to co-host a poker show, sell a series of books and become a Full Tilt red pro. Finally, I have to put Erica Schoenberg in this category, which I feel bad about because she's one of the genuine nice people of the game. She used to get all sorts of media attention and TV appearances based mostly on the fact that, well, she looks like Erica Schoenberg.

    Daniel kept saying too many coolers. It's not coolers when your shoving draws into made hands. Coolers are made hand over made hand. Not shoving flush draws and gutshots into pairs and sets

    Love these. So much. Great Remko. Daniel was such a great poker boom ambassador putting out a lot of content. Great to hear about Ivey. One complaint against Daniel here, I did not like way he spoke so dismissive about Barry Greensteins bankroll troubles. Dude was giving away all tournament earnings to poor children and helping his son and poker community with poker road such great content. Always classy and treating fans and top pros alike with class. Loser of biggst pot on HSP and ante up for all seasons. Just poor class from Daniel cause Barry was top class when he was flying high, if he was selfish and greedy back then maybe would be rich now and instead Daniel ragging on him.

    When he told Mike Sexton that he had K-K. Was that magic? or was it based off of a combination of things?

    Im not sure the criticism over Blacks AK vs dnegs AA ICM is justified when the payout structure is so top heavy and ICM not as important as it would at a standard tournie.

  • @johnallen2771
    @johnallen2771 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Matasow said "defense, defense." That's not the way to play poker. You have to go on offense when the time is right. Why not call 2 K or A K if you've got suited connectors? If you can get in cheap to see a flop you never know what's going to come up. You can always drop out if you don't get any help. If you hit, you usually win big. Daniel also plays in a lot of small pots that you don't see on TV. If he loses it's usually in those pots. I'm not saying that he doesn't lose big pots too, sometimes. Even in a big table, where you need better cards to win, there's a chance it will come down to 2 or 3 players or even heads up. In those situations, marginal hands win more often. He played a 4 5 suited against QQ. Flop turns up a 6, help. Checks all around. He's still in it cheap. Then a 2 comes up. No bets, still cheap. Then he hits a 3 and wins a nice pot.
