Joe.... We need an investigation!!! A gentleman offers 5 000$ if a royal flush is hit during the tournament. The VERY FIRST DEAL, someone hit it. You and I both know what happened here. LOCKED IN
My first experience with poker was just 4 years later at the Las Vegas Nights weekly games hosted by Louis Asmo(2nd place finisher) in Columbus, Ohio. I had heard all the stories about David laying down the kings preflop, but I never knew it was on video! Awesome to see it as it happened!! Louis said he normally would never show his hand like that to confirm the great laydown, but he decided to show the aces because he respected the laydown so much and he knew it was good for the game that he showed it.
I love watching any pro poker that took place 20+ years ago, the farther back the better..........those generation of players are the greatest ever to sit at the felt - doyle, puggy, chan, hellmuth, barry, seidel, howard, jennifer, tuna, treetop, stuey, danny etc....................where's chip????????????? r.i.p. Mike...............
Nice isn't the word beast of a fold chiu always been hd player..poker so much different now though, these old boys get hurt at table..to passive and nitty..young guys run them.iver with aggression unless the old boys were to get one sick run of cards ..anyways rip Mikey..u will always be the man
Go read “The Biggest Game In The Room” published in 1980, I want to say, Doyle does nothing but talk about the buffet and ice cream bar at Binions Horseshoe
Now this is what you call class, decency and respect. I don't think we'll see much praise of the professionals, experts and elders today or in the future like outlined here.
If you've never read Mike Sexton's book, I highly recommend it. This tournament is a very historic tournament for the poker industry and the then upcoming poker boom.
most likely whenever espn started broadcasting it.....for most of the earliest tournaments, there is very limited footage, just highlights, not the whole tourney.........
Excellent poker they played back then. These days poker is in the dumpster with Mike Postle, Robbi Jade Lew, Nic Airball, Ali Imsirovic, Jake Schindler and others littering the poker landscape with filth. LOL
This is iconic poker content

Sexton was such a stud and wonderful ambassador for poker. Thank you for posting this! Now someone upload some of the Poker Super Bowl videos
Spooky how the late 90s look like the 70s compared to now
Yea looks so ancient. Crazy how fast things evolve.
Great find! I'd rather watch pre-2003 old school poker than most of the stuff created today.

Thanks for sharing this!
Atari Rob, no clue where you found this, but thank you so much for the upload. I’ve never seen this and didn’t know it existed.

Mike Sexton was the greatest ambassador for poker. Miss him.
That's poker, folks.
Men master angle shooting even back then🤔
Wow! I always wondered if Doyle got this body as an old man, but he had it back then. I was going to say poor guy, but he's lived a pretty good life
Go read “The Biggest Game In The Room” published in 1980, I want to say, Doyle does nothing but talk about the buffet and ice cream bar at Binions Horseshoe
You know he used to play for the lakers nba team
Nothing I would love more than to be choking down someone's second hand smoke at a poker table.
Poker without a sleazy, smoke-filled atmosphere, watered-down drinks & stale club sandwiches, isn’t really poker.
True
@@sirmount2636 hey.....those hot dogs didn't look too bad........Even Johnny Chan was chomping on one..........
😅 only the strongest survived and I've always said I never smoked but when I did it was free
outside of the WSOP main event this is the most important event in poker
Great history ! Seemed like an amazing event, wish it it was not before my time.

Phil Helmuth and Scotty N. on the call!!
Great video, thank you!
What was the first recorded poker tournament? The 1989 WSOP?
Probably the 1973 WSOP, I've seen the footage online. A bunch of the 80s and 90s WSOPs were recorded as well.
most likely whenever espn started broadcasting it.....for most of the earliest tournaments, there is very limited footage, just highlights, not the whole tourney.........
@captain scentsible39 i believe it was because there was no TV deal in place for that year. shame we have no footage of huck seed's victory
Hey there's that cheater guy! (Russ "Fat as a Bus" Hamilton)
