    I had the pleasure of actually playing with Joe at the 2005 Main event during day 4.. we played at same table for about 4 hrs.. he was the ultimate gentleman.. and a worthy champion!!!

    This WSOP brings back great memories. I started playing after watching this final table. This was truly the last entertaining final table, where genuine guys with personalities shined (unlike the unwatchable crap today).

    • @chevelle1
      @chevelle1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Absolutely. Slowly the game started getting taken over by online, no personality, robotic know it alls who smugly look down on the poker boom generation of players. Also, the commentators today are awful. The poker eta of the early-mid 00’s grew the game and brought in new players, something the smug know it alls today seem to not realize the value of. I guess that concept isn’t on their charts. 🤷‍♂️

    I am an Aussie as well and had the pleasure of meeting Joe and purchasing his book during the 2009 WSOP. Was able to take a photo with him and 2 of my children (I have a son named Daniel as well who loves poker!) which takes pride of place in my office. Joe you are great ambassador for the game of poker and responsible for the poker boom in Australia which continues to this day.

    This was a cool recap of that final table. The 2004 main event was when I really took interest in poker. Seeing Greg Raymer's chip stack piled high and then the action from 2005, forget about it, I've been a poker player ever since.

    These run it back episodes are so much fun and interesting to watch. That being said... the 05 world series final table was probably the most exciting and memorable one to watch. Great to get the champions commentary as well.

    Joe Hachem is a nice guy. I played in a WSOP event in 2006. Was watching the final table and there was an empty seat next to me. Someone asked "Is that seat taken?" It was Hachem. I asked if he played in the event and he said he got knocked out in hand 1 when he flopped top pair with the nuts flush draw and lost to a made flush. I said, guess that doesn't matter as much when you win millions the year before.

    PASS THE SUGA! The 2005 Main Event was the peak of the poker boom I agree with Joe, so many sick hands. Like when Andy Black blew up 50% of his stack with KJ(all in) preflop against Barch's JJ right before the final table, or when Lazar hit the flush on the river against Matusow, or when Sheikan and Matusow battled in the top 20, etc.

    Joe Hachem is legit the nicest dude in the game, once saw him shove into an amateur knowing the amateur had quad’s just because he was a retired cop freerolling in a 100/200 NLH cash game. That's the kind of people Joe Hachem is.

"No matter how good your hand is .. if your beat... Fold it ... Thanks dad

    he was not distracted by the payouts (not sure if this is a positive point or not but obviously worked out well for Joe) avoided putting himself in a position to take hard decisions and caught some cards which shows poker gods liked him that night, until the last hand... he used the essence of all his experiences during the many years of live poker, artistically convinced his opponent to make the call, and became the world champion. aside all the techniques, he had the etiquette of a world champion all along the road. very well done and deserved.
