I was Chief of Design for Marmon 1979-1981 and was responsible for all exterior, interior and catalog paint design. I also proposed Premium Series Conventionals and Cabovers for 1981...

I started driving in 79 and was the odd man out because everyone else liked Pete's but I loved the Texas Truck. Thanks, nice design, great truck.

Best truck I've ever driven.
My Dad drove a 1985 Marmon. He was in Chuck Norris movie BREAKER!BREAKER! His truck was. the second truck out of truck stop when Chuck pulled in to the same truck stop. Got my Dad on camera.
I miss my Marmon!! First truck I owned. Should have never got rid of it. Ahhh the memories though with my boys riding with me.

i built the 64” standups for Marmon through Imperial Fabrication. I sure didn’t know Marmon went back so many years. I learned from this vid.
I drove a Marmon once back in the 70s Cabover.
I am so jealous.
I used to drive a 1990 Marmon 57 P for a guy hauling logging equipment, logs and lumber. What a great truck 3406 Cat with a 13 speed, maroon and silver in color, she was my baby and very quickly became my favorite truck and as far as it goes almost 30 years have past and that truck still is my all time favorite. I have driven many trucks and models since then and nothing can compare to that Marmon 57 P, back from the time when they could still build a good truck.
Appreciated mention of the Marmon-Harrington electric trolley. The Chicago Transit Authority was an early adopter of this particular bus. In 1969 I was a college student at the University of Illinois. CTA hired college kids during the summer so that they could allow the full timers to take summer vacations. These 600 volt busses had awesome INSTANT torque which meant I could easily out accelerate just about any car from dead stop at a traffic light. Very cool indeed.
Love Marmon Cabovers. Love her voice telling a brief history of a great truck make !
Never seen a Marmon on the road, but my uncle's big rig salvage/boneyard had a conventional Marmon from the 80's several years ago. They sure were proud of their brand, you could read that big M on the hood from 500 yards away. I bet he's still sitting on that truck waiting for the one guy who's fixing up his Marmon and needs all those unobtainable trim pieces.
Marmon, back when trucks were trucks. Still see them occasionally, always cool when you do.
I only saw 1 once, and that was last year at the Big Boys truck stop

I came >< close to buying a new Marmon at the Temple dealership. It was a brown "Hondo" model with a 350 Cummins and a 7 speed transmission. The 7 speed scared me off. I had to run too many steep grades for that to work. After negotiating the price to swap a new a 13 speed, I backed out of the deal. It was a beautiful, and far ahead of it's time truck.
Very good documentary on MARMON. I knew about the truck but not the beginning of MARMON. But I have always liked there trucks. Thank You Jack's. Always good to see our history in trucking as my trucking career is coming to it's end. Golden days of trucking has been over for some time now

Or as we use to call them when I was driving, "Texas Truck". I still love the cab over, I think it has classic styling.

Just like Brockway, better than they had to be. Ppl used to pay a premium for a better product because that's what mattered most. They wouldn't settle for less. Sadly, price became the main consideration and ppl caved. You know , like the Walmart syndrome. Marmon was in the top 2 greatest trucks of all time. Great vid. Thx.
Don’t blame “people” for settling for less; blame investors constantly looking for more profit. They’re behind driving costs down to make more money and that’s the way of the world. If the greedy investors would take the larger view that having living-wage manufacturing jobs is good for our country we wouldn’t be in any trade wars with China. If corporations took the larger view that paying their taxes in America would be helping to maintain and improve our economy we wouldn’t be lamenting the woeful status of our manufacturing sector. Corporations should have to declare their profits and pay their taxes in America to do business in America. Period.

Most don't remember that the original Optimus Prime in the Transformers cartoon series was a Marmon cabover.
He was a Marmon in the movie too

G1 Optimus Prime from the 80s cartoon was a Freightliner and he also was a 1987 Freightliner FLA in the Bumblebee movie but in Transformers 4 he was a rusty Marmon truck
Here in Australia they were sold as 'Max Marmon' ..... I've seen two on the road in my whole life .
Max was the importer. There’s 4 in Aus. 2 white, one blue & one green

Met two of them. One conventional just last week near Fitzroy Crossing, WA pulling flat tops with dongers. Also, I encountered a cab over about 5 years ago somewhere in the north of Australia pulling what looked like a living trailer/camper type set up. May have been a blue colour.
@@HJZ75driver I have a photo somewhere of a mint one in western Australia from back in early 2000 it had a big car transporter on the back think it was heading over to kalgoorlie.

We have a couple Marmons still hauling ass down here in New Zealand that I see from time it time. A cab over and a conventional.
I built them in the mid to late seventies, they were truly hand-built, we were proud of everyone that came off the line. The video failed to mention that when the company was sold to Stratton Georgeolius, we built a line of heavy-duty trucks for a concrete company he owned..Also one of the owners in the early seventies was Col. Byrd, who also owned the Texas School Book Depository.
Trucking company around the corner from me used to be a dealer. They still have several running from here in Pennsylvania to Florida weekly

I’ve only seen 2 in my career of driving, even asked the owner if I could get a pic and it’s still on my phone 4 years later
First truck 🚚 I learned to drive, it was a cabover,don't remember the year it was but I really miss that rig.
I used to bring old Ford pickups back to Ontario from the SW USA for my own collection, and saw many Marmon trucks on the highway. I learned a little bit about them on my own but this video was very informative. I did not know about the Marmon cars . I will check out more of your videos .

I went driving over the road for over 5 years I have seen three of those trucks all three of them where the conventional models beautiful trucks one of them needed a little TLC but it didn't matter back then they were rigs

I watch all you videos and I would love to see a marmon restoration, my dad and my pap had the biggest marmon dealer on the east coast, I have about 15 trucks sitting in a field but me and my dad can’t bring ourselves to get rid of any of them
Did work on a 2007 6x6 international 7400 workstar, had a marmon front drive axle and transfer case, original dt, no maxxforce , old fashioned muffler 💨🤘🤘
There's a 66 cab over here locally. It runs and drives but the owner says he's gonna fix it up one day....he's 70 yrs old now.....I reckon I'll try again in about 6 months

I drove a COE Marmon with a 1693TA cat and a Double over Spicer Air 4X4 the only thing if wouldn't pass was a fuel pump, that being said it didn't know what a hill was, the only thing I ever had that challenged it on a hill was a Freightliner "Powerliner" with a Allis Chalmers "Big Al" 450hp motor on Sherman Summit, I beat him to the top and was gone.
Late at night many years ago I could faintly hear two guys on the cb talking about some big hp Allis Chalmers experimental truck engine...do you have any history on that engine?
Had a old timer today at my jobsite who is still running a marmon that he had bought new in the early 80s, running it everyday since
19 ppl who don’t have a clue to what real trucks were. Coarse they probably ride around with the gear shifter in the roof, double hump fenders 3,000 LED lights and have the nerve to call it old school. Which old school trucks were not about chrome, lights, shifter to the roof. I saw a Marmon COE and fell in love.

That BLUE MARMON I always see at shows in PA. The truck is beautiful condition it has a nice wheelbase to it the deck plate pops open like a trunk on a car. That is the LARGE CAR rite there so is the GOODS CAB OVER. Great channel 👍 💯
Joseph Esposito were you ever in Grove City PA. I lived there in the 70s there was a car dealer there by that name just curious if your one of that family I see you mentioned Pa.

My main reason for interest for coming was because Optimus Prime had chosen a Marmon Cabover as his mode to evade his hunters in Transformers Age of Extinction. Geeky, I know.
Used to build conversion 4x4s out of brand new KODIAKS& TOP KICKS at a mod shop for aspulund tree service,the military,ect...stepped the frame up for lift and used marmon drivelines,they were some pretty stout trucks,loved driving them across town to the muffler shop,it was like driving a monster truck...

2022 Oct... Back in 1975, I was with northAmerican Van Lines, Electronic Division.. The man I drove for had a cab over Marmon.. We put a lot of miles on her..
Before the Marmon Motorcar Company there was Nordyke Marmon & Company, the builders of milling equipment. That company was sold to Allis Chalmers in 1926. I work around Nordyke Marmon roller mills.

Prettiest trucks ever built.
After highschool, I attended Greer Technical Inst, a well known trade school in Chicago located at 2230 S. Michigan Ave. It's now at least a 100 year old building. Cast into its facade at the top, is, "Marmon Motor Car Co.". I think that building is yet there. Was it only a dealership of Marmon's? No mention is made of it in your video.
Fun fact... I live less than a mile from where Marmon Trucks was built here in Garland. Another fun fact... International Trucks also had a plant a few blocks away from the old Marmon plant.

I know where there is a Marmon just sitting and rotting. If you're restoring a Marmon you can get almost every part from either Kenworth or Peterbilt as Marmon used Paccar parts
I know where one is with a CAT. So if you wanted to get it road worthy could you get disc brakes installed on it? I'm wondering if there would be problems with special parts. I heard in one instance the dash was made cheap. Not too worried about trim, could just bondo and paint.

In 1996 Marmon Harrington was manufacturing d70 front differential copies, extremely heavy duty, I have two. One in an 1996 f450 superduty and one in an 03 econoline container truck.

Reaganomics killed Marmons chance. I really loved the exterior and the interior as well on them as they took chrome to new levels. I rode in one from texas to washington state and never once a ripple in the coffee mug. I will say that the 1693 might of had a lot to do with smooth. It shined at night even off the moon glow.
You are too misinformed and uniformed to have an opinion.. Reaganomics wasn't the problem. Freight deregulation by Carter was the biggest problem.
There's a Marmon dump truck I see on a daily basis at one of the landfills I go to in Maryland, Tough strong running truck, Excellent shape, Not sure what year truck it is but it's in great condition.

I drove a 75 p57 and a87 p57 the 87 was a 96in stand up bunkhouse back when it had power windows air ride seats both sides air ride cab& suspension 5 110 ac outlets and inverter refrigerator microwave. Power was a 92 series Detroit making 550 hp with a20 speed roadrunner it road on a 350 in wheelbase

When I was in federal prison in Dallas the prison had one out side the gate5.it had bullet proof Windows and a system that would drop sand on all the trucks wheels and probably more stuff I didn't see

Sounds like he's talking about Sanders,like on train engines. I've seen big big snow plow trucks that had Sanders.
That was awesome. Although you forgot about the marmon meteor. A Salt flat speed record holder. Or at least I think it was a marmon. I could be wrong but I don't think so.

A small error, Internstional trucks are made by Navistar, not International Harvester. International Harvester was purchased by Tennacco in 1982 and merged with Case to form Case International Harvester (Case IH) and discontinued production of pickup trucks, while commercial trucks and Cub Cadet garden tractors were sold off.
