Whether intentional or incompetent, certainly the case here. Knudsen and cohorts destroyed White Motor with idiotic decisions that were designed to fail.
These videos really hit a ‘ nice spot” while I’m eating dinner and avoiding “the news of the day”...just interesting history of trucks...Thank you, Jack’s and team for creating and posting. TJ
Had a ‘70 9000 in the 80s. Stretched it to mount a 3000 gal tank then mounted a dump and finally a flat bed. It’s still owned locally by a farmer. I think they used the same cabs on trucks badged differently for years.
I own the WHITE Construcktor as seen in my profile pic. CUMMINS 290, tandem, just a shade over 100,000 miles on her and runs like a champ down the highway. 70 mph on the Interstate with no problem. I love this old gurl ~
The first trucks my father ever carried us in for a ride a long was the White 4000 trucks. They seemed very large to my brother and I when we where 5 years old. When I started driving in the 80s I parked my W900 next to a 4000 and realize how much bigger the newer truck was at the time.
Back in the early ninties, I drove for a company that had a 1978 White Road Boss with a 318 Detroit and a straight pipe. It was assigned to the low man on the totem pole which was me at the time. Drivers at rest stops hated my azz when I would pull in at 2 am to take a quick nap using the steering wheel as a pillow (daycab). You could hear that truck 1/2 mile away.
Great video! I had the pleasure of driving a White Road Boss with a 903 Cummins for a construction company for a few years pulling a lowboy trailer. A few years later when I drove otr I drove a White Road Commander (Road Commode) with a 400 Cummins. It was the best truck ever!!
The video and information are great! But one of the most unusual White trucks was the 1940 White truck that was converted by the Zacchini family to have a cannon on its roof and traveled the country with ""Hugo: The Human Cannon Ball! It traveled for 50 years across the country and was seen on circus posters and on the cover of magazines. I was his manager so I stood next to that famous truck and made the announcement to the large crowds many times. The truck is now at the Circus Museum in Sarasota, Fl.
If White Motor hadn't been so greedy wanting truck market share (focus was International's Truck market), it might be still in business today. With purchases of Sterling, Autocar, Reo, Diamond T, & later on, GM's Euclid heavy equip division & then absorbing Oliver tractors (Cletrac), they wanted to own every corner of the market, then Volvo stepped in, & look what happened there. BTW, the cabover White 5000 was a full fiberglass built cab (prone to cracking), then came the White 7000, nicknamed the "Japanese Freightliner". Nice video!
President Taft’s White steam car is at the Heritage Museum and Gardens auto collection in Sandwich Massachusetts on Cape Cod. It is a beautiful car in a great collection.
Grew up seeing most of these old trucks.🤩 Still enjoy seeing them out there at shows or on the road. Love the REO trucks! 🥰 I even have an F model REO! Thanks! 🤩
I used to drive a 1968 White 9000 conventional cab....I installed a radio and it lasted about 3 months before it shook apart. I had a board to lay across the seats to sleep on
I was very curious about the White Trucks Company. Growing up in the 90's and my dad being a trucker. I remember seeing these mysterious trucks and was curious about them. Very informative and clear, thank you.
I agree they should of added how white took over Oliver, Cockshutt, Minneapolis Moline ik farm equipment isn't something you would put on a truck channel but still be nice
I worked for Empire White Trucks in Syracuse NY 1969 -73..Ervine Steel was the Owner. he was a good guy, His wife and children were in an air plane collision over Wisconsin, I moved on to Caterpillar.
That White model 5000 was one unique truck...it had character, but my understanding is that they had several structural problems. I’ve only seen two in real life. Probably still worth saving as part of truck history. 🧐 Love those old trucks! 🥰
Very cool video I didn't realize White had been around that long,I noticed you had a picture of Newton Transportation in the mix I worked for them back in the 80s.Mr Newton paid for my first chauffeurs licence. Thanks for your hard work Ms Maddie.
It is a Super White bus, operated by "Egged", an Israeli transit bus company. the body was manufactured locally over a White chassis and power plant. 3:44 the White "Egged" bus seen again - destination sign on windshield: The dead sea :)
Nothing about the White Mustang? Though technically, it was a Model 4000 with the Mustang engine, it did have the nameplate on the front and was rather popular on the East Coast.
White's history in Australia gets even muddier, the local version of the Road Boss used more than a few parts sourced from the Kenworth W900 parts bin among other deals.
Thank you for a great video I enjoy the history of trucks. Now I have a question would you do a video on the Peterbilt 377 ? I'm a over the road truck driver and I do drive a 1996 Peterbilt 377 my home away from home. Thank you and God Bless
My favorite is the White road and GMC Xpeditor models with the Detroit Diesel engines like 6L71 6V71N or TA 8V71N 6V92TA and 8V92N or TA Detroit Diesel series 50 Cummins engines like L10 and 8 3 liter models and Caterpillar 3400 series engines
Just about ALL truck manufacturers did good during the wars. No one company could meet all the demands of the military. Kenworth, and peterbuilt were the only companies that did not make trucks for the military. That I know of. If I'm wrong please let me know

Well done! From sewing machines to big rigs...interesting history for sure.
I died from boredom
My GrandPa started his 1st job at White in `17 then got drafted & lost his job... went on to work for Standard Oil for 54 yrs.
These heavy truck companies certainly have complicated histories!!

I play snowrunner. One of my trucks is a white-western star. I ironically named it walter.
Fun fact, they made tractors after the combination of Oliver, Minneapolis moline, and Cockshutt.
You guys bringing us a lot of information thank you very much.
Thanks for sharing. Awesome video.👍👍👍
drove white cab over straight jobs, semi white mustang & 4000. tough, noisy, but well built.
