Check out a movie Richard Pryor did here in Danville VA. He played Wendel Scott. He was here shooting that years ago. Mr Scott was a local celebrity here. Had a chance to talk to him a few times back in the day
Car Wash was a HUGE deal when I was a kid. That movie is iconic (within the black community). We had the sound track album, which opened up like a double album. Thank you for posting. Sad to see the car wash was torn down. I remember hearing the name of Reverend Ike growing up. He was a TV reverend and he was a sensation. Too me, Car Wash will always be considered a very good, very funny movie. It’s from a time long past.
When this film came out in the fall of 1976, I attended John Burroughs Jr. High, with Michael Fennell. The kid on the skateboard. In the spring of 1977, imagine my surprise when I saw Michael, now an 8th grader, driving a 1978 Gold Trans AM to school. That's right, an 8th grader. I later found out that he would park it behind the buildings on 3rd Street. He was a pretty cool guy, he told me how he was cast in the film. According to him, one day after school, he was riding his skateboard towards Gardner Park and a white guy pulled over and asked him if he wanted to be in a movie. Well, the rest is history.
OMG!...My...Fav ...Movie...of...All-time!...I'm a Jersey girl who lived in Cali during that time period...So I can really relate to the movie...I even have the Car Wash theme as my ringback tone on my phone...Everyone tells me that they start dancing while they wait for me to answer...I often wondered how the area may have changed thru the years...Well, Thank You, Jordan!... I wait each day to see who or what will be your next subject...Well, today you hit a home run for me!
There was or still is a library on that plaza that I would go to alot when I was a child. I'm 30 and it's so good to know that this film took place there

And, the car wash is no longer and so many have passed away 😓 I sorely Bonnie i Pointer, who was predeceased by her sister June Pointer and is survived by her brothers Aaron and Fritz and sisters Ruth and Anita Pointer. Deep sadness for me. Save when things change. I fully understand that's just life. But, I hate when memories die or are erased. Thank you for your time and effort and knowledge and doing your work. It's truly appreciated 🤗🏆🎖️.

I lived just a few blocks away from the car wash. I remember them filming there because I used the laundromat nearby. While my clothes were drying, I walked over to the set and saw Richard Pryor talking to the director, I assume. That was so cool! Had to go back and get my clothes and then went home. They filmed there for a very long time; my guess 1 month or so. I love L.A.!
Two of my favorite comedians they were both hilarious. Richard Pryor was hilarious in The Toy. The guitars are beautiful so many different colors and styles. Thank you Jordan for the vlog. Your a gem. BTW I watched your interview with It's Tonights Show and it was great. Love to you and the Jahster
Hey Jordan, after watching this vlog about the movie Car Wash, I did a Google search for 6th and Rampart. What came up was a page that shows the Big 6 Market. If you click on outside photos, a group of photos comes up and in the group is a picture of the Car Wash and Al's that you talk about in your vlog. Great job on this vlog!!.
One of my favorite vlogs! Now i will have to pull out my DVD and rewatch. Glad you can get your guitars fixed. Love the blue ones in the shop. Poor Jah looked so disappointed that he wasn’t going to hang out, but at least the sun shines out there a lot. Nothing but lots of snow and clouds here in West Michigan today.
Jordan, so cool you mentioned Johnny Lang. I live 45 minutes east from were Johnny is from. He's from Fargo North Dakota. Fargo has ties to some big names. Actor Josh Duhamel's dad lives in Fargo, he visits often. Actor Jeff Bridges visits Fargo since his mother inlaw lives there. The city of Moorhead which is just over the river east of Fargo is were Buddy Holly, Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens were headed to when sadly they crashed. Former member of Genesis also lives in Fargo.
I stayed in that apartment building when it was a Howard Johnson hotel in 1997. The shopping area looked familiar then found out it was the location for Car wash!
I think the best thing to come out of this movie was the title song. I remember hearing it in the radio over and over! The radio stations in Detroit and Windsor wore it out.
Oh wow! I live in the building behind the strip mall on 6th & Wilshire! I watched Car Wash a few months ago and recognized the Big Six Market and realized I was living right next to the location shoot! Very surreal. I loved the movie... simply fun!
Really neat seeing the actual locations from the movie. Loved seeing Jah ‘s little face. The art on the time capsule looked beautifully detailed. So many beautiful guitars...a nice place to be on a rainy afternoon.
When I moved back there In June 76, I was staying at Hotel California, across from McCarther Park. It was a dive. Don't think it is there any longer . I remember the old RTD transit system. I was wrong, I had always thought that it was the car wash in Sherman Oaks

In the TV Version you can see the Danny Devito Complete scene and other Deleted scenes from the Theatrical Version, and they added scenes for the TV Version. They added the complete Danny Devito scene in a 2013 DVD, I dont know if they added more scenes. I like both versions.
I loved the movie! It was real for the time. Calling in to win tickets from the radio station...who didnt do that in the 70's? I know I did!! The music was great! I could watch this movie at any time its on! Thanks for the vlog Jordan! Great as always!!

I was at the location in 2020,never knew it was so close to Downtown L.A.I always was curious to visit the area of one of my favorite movies of the 1970's.That White Building in the back is still there from the movie

When I came to California in 1988 I went to the site of 6th and Rampart to see if the car wash was still there, and they had just started the building of the strip mart, unfortunately. When I saw the movie on TV around 1978, it showed the scene with Danny Di Vito, but oddly it's not included on the DVD. Very funny and interesting fact about "Reverend Ike"! Great and informative videos, a lot of fun.
You mentioned that Daddy Rich (Richard Pryor) shows up in a gold Cadillac. Since you really like trivia about this movie, that car was actually a Lincoln Continental stretch limousine. Love the movie, so this was a fun video. Thanks for the tour and for posting👍
Believe it or not, the only dance I have ever seen my mom do is The Car Wash. haha. I have seen parts to this movie. You always make sure you do the best vlogs. Even in the pouring rain you get the shots. Thanks for your work ethic as well as the awesome vlogs Jordan.
This was a surprise vlog for me. Thought it was going to be about the movie Car Wash and it turned into a guitar vlog. I love guitars and that's an awesome guitar shop you found. Great vlog, Jordan! "Car Wash" was one of the few project that I got to see Ivan Dixon besides the "Hogan's Heroes" Tv series. Bill Duke (Predator) was also in it.
I remember seeing an old interview with Richard Pryor (maybe Mike Douglas) and Mike asked Richard who influenced him to get into comedy. He told a story about being a kid in his bedroom and all of a sudden he heard his dad laughing hysterically at something on tv. So he runs into the room and asks his dad what is so funny. All his dad could do was point to the tv, and it was Jerry Lewis. Richard said from that point on he knew he wanted to do comedy cause he loved hearing his dad laugh. :)

The Jordan in Seattle as a teenager I worked at the Elephant car wash in the mid- seventies! So I always have enjoyed this flick!

This was a surprise vlog for me. Thought it was going to be about the movie Car Wash and it turned into a guitar vlog. I love guitars and that's an awesome guitar shop you found. Lots of guitars and that price on the Wolf guitars is amazing. I hope you do go back and get more info on them. Sorry poor Jah didn't get his play time but at least you took him out of a walk. Gee it's really raining down there. You do anything for us including standing in run off and rain to get us the scenes from a movie. I hope you didn't get too wet? Car Wash was one of my favorite movies, the music alone for me was awesome, back in the day, I danced A lot!!! I still love the movie today. thanks Jordan for blogging it, it really brought back some good memories for me At least.☺

Great vlog, Jordan! "Car Wash" was one of the few project that I got to see Ivan Dixon besides the "Hogan's Heroes" Tv series. Bill Duke (Predator) was also in it.
Don't forget Clarence Muse and Otis Sistrunk who was soon to be a Super Bowl Champion in January '77
My uncle worked there for a while. On his last day, a co worker told him the movie was going to be made. He had photos of the car, some of the cast.
I remember seeing an old interview with Richard Pryor (maybe Mike Douglas) and Mike asked Richard who influenced him to get into comedy. He told a story about being a kid in his bedroom and all of a sudden he heard his dad laughing hysterically at something on tv. So he runs into the room and asks his dad what is so funny. All his dad could do was point to the tv, and it was Jerry Lewis. Richard said from that point on he knew he wanted to do comedy cause he loved hearing his dad laugh. :)

Another great vlog 😁😁. I love the movie Car Wash lol. Love the song, too. Now I want to watch the movie, its been years since I saw it. George Carlin is my all time favorite comedian, we lost him too soon. Richard Pryer was great too. Love his movies with Gene Wilder the most.
