Thanks! :) I had proper contact cleaner spray before but when using that, the problem would come back much quicker. Same for the re-circulation flap motor. I've cleaned that potentiometer because the re-circulation flap was going crazy moving on it's own. When using proper contact cleaner on that pot it would last a lot less that WD40. Just let the car cool down a bit and use lots of paper towels/rags :)
Had epc light too, had the trottle body replaced but after few days the epc light litted again..went back to mech the dam light werent there anymore, test drive a few round nothing happen...hope ur method works. Keeping fingers crossed.
Mine was idling normally but jerks when i drive it at low rpms.. turned out to be a faulty egr valve i cleaned it wirh a carb cleaner and worked like a charm.

De obicei comentariile din Romania de trolling si am oftat cand am inceput sa citesc ce ai scris dar mi-am revenit in partea 2 haha. Stiu ca normal se foloseste contact cleaner si am tot citit dece wd-40 e rau ca strica acolo contactul. Pentru mine, wd-40 merge foarte bine. Varianta clasica si ce e mai important, tine mult. Daca dai cu contact cleaner in cateva luni sau 1 an ai probleme iar. Cu WD-40 1-2 ani merge. La fel si la clapeta de recirculate - potentiometru. Era cineva de intreba mai devreme pe alt video de aia. Curata clapeta de acceleratie cu CARB SPRAY dar fara sa o misti, doar pana la clapeta in interior. Daca tot umblii acolo poti sa pornesti motorun cu filtru scos si sa dai spray scurt jumatate de secunda in clapeta de acceleratie - admisie asa se mai curata chiar pe linia unde e clapeta - poate sa fie mizerie mazga ulei sau resturi carbonizate acolo. Motorul se tureaza putin cand dai carb spray, e normal.

Try to use an obd2 reader to get some error codes if any. I read some comments that it could be a bad solder joint in the dashboard but I think it might be the coolant temperature sensor. Not sure really.

Check coolant level and check that engine temperature does not rise slightly when you press harder on the gas pedal. Should be fixed in up position around 90 degrees.
I have a 2004 VW Polo 1.4 BBY engine. Just replaced 16 Valve Stem seals WITHOUT REMOVING THE HEAD and now the EPC light has come ON. Will try this trick and see what happens. VW's can be a pain sometimes, but good Cars to drive.
hey bro nice video it also worked for me but if you want a once for all solution it would be chaging the trotttle body wire plug vw sent out a bulleting adressing this issue once you rewire the trotle body connector you wont ever have to use wd on the plug ever again

It means the engine is running 'rich'. Probably fuel economy is not great too. There could be many reasons for that. This is one of them. Could be any of these or more: Fuel injectors, Engine wear, Spark plugs, Induction coils, O2 sensors, ECU. These are few reasons I can think of is the smell comes from the tail pipe. Otherwise it's more dangerous if petrol is leaking anywhere from the tank on it's way to the fuel injectors.
My 2003 elite polo has had exact issue. Revs will go up and down, then EPC light comes on the car is running very rough and eventually just turns off. Tried this trick and it worked for 24 hrs. The throttle and accelerator have been changed. Any ideas?

Do not put wd-40 inside the reservoir. Only on the connector and connector socket but not inside where coolant goes. Saying it just to be super clear. This is for the electrical contacts.

So I put WD 40 in the connector like you said and the epc light came on still, but this time it didnt go limp mode completely as much, the acceleration was just really slow but it go up to 70 kmph eventually, though it felt held back a bit. Do you think I just didnt put enough on it? Wasnt the brake light switch cause that was changed too. Im gonna try to clean the throttle body next tho xD

My epc light came on when I was on motorways last night. I didn't notice any change in car and drive to services about 12 miles away and when I turned car of, it started again without light on and I finish my travels of 65ish miles. Confused as to why ?
Thank you very much for this video.I bought a car vw polo 1.2 from 2004 and it has AZQ engine.The car had this EPC problem but it was not coming at starting mostly after driving 15-30 minutes epc light turn on and car goes to limp mood.I took the car to mechanic and he told me to change throttle body, throttle padel, lambda sensors and catalyst and i have done everything but problem wasn't sloved at the end mechanik told me to change the engine control module and i have ordered that but while i have ordered that i found your video and i have ordered the throttle body connector and i gave it to mechanic to change the old connector and replace with new.And now the car is not throwing any problem and running like a charm just now i am concerned about only intake temperature because in obd2 it is showing while i am driving the temperature is going up to 80 degree.Is it a bad intake temperature?
Temp in dashboard should be straight up at around 90 celsius. I'm glad you got it sorted but that mechanic oh my... He threw parts(and your money) at the problem too much.

I currently have this problem after accelerating quickly. I've cleaned the connections and now the check engine light has now appeared. It is a 1.2 polo 9n 2003. Any advice is welcome. I've tried to check the codes yet non are appearing. I've ordered a new obd reader so hopefully that gives me more of an indication of what's going on

Hi , i have vw polo 1.4 petrol 2009 , When driving the car while the air conditioning is running and I press the clutch and brake to stop the car or reduce the speed, the engine suddenly stops. I have changed many parts of the engine and the problem still exists. Note that this problem does not occur when the air conditioner is off … I changed all parts of the engine and the problem did not end. Some mechanics told me that there is a general problem with the engine compression in this type of engines ( BUD 1.4 ) and you cannot solve it unless you change the engine . .. now I completely changed the engine to a model (CGG ),, and the problem still exists.. This is going to make me crazy
You changed the whole engine and it does the same? First I would change the mechanic, get another opinion. A obd2 scan is the first thing to check for. Also the engine position sensor - flywheel g28 see my video in car playlist. Never happened to me because of the AC but could be the AC compressor or even AC refrigerant? If you get the EPC light, this video could help you.
Same issue with my car, except after a couple minutes, the car falls flat and dies. Also, my Traction Control light comes on in sync with the EPC light, and happened twice after getting a full tank of fuel. Could this still be the throttle body as I've changed the TB/Maf already? Thanks!

My car sometimes does the same, but other times the powersteering light would go on and i would lose powersteering, the clock will reset, and an alarm will beep twice. I then switch off the car and start it again, and everything will be fine again. Do you think this will also fix my problem?

Have you had a problem with no error code on 2002 polo going into limp with no notice. After driving fine for 500 miles plus replaced two cylinder coils and all plugs. Was running great for past month until tonight. Is there a fuel filter. It’s hard to diagnose with no code. Just popped into limp mode
There is a fuel filter but I bever had problems with that. Coils are always going bad on these cars. 😅 When the coils in mine were bad it had misfire codes in engine scan.
Hi! My car's EPC light came on and the car went into limp mode. First I changed the throttle body but still no improvement. Next I changed the Electronic accelerator unit and now the car only cranks but won't start at all.
I changed the water pump, tensioner pulley and belt on a 1.2 Polo AZQ, and the throttle suddenly is a bit "awkward", but nothing bad, after driving a bit, the epc light came on and the engine just doesn't accelerated, after turning it off and on again, no EPC light and it was like before. I do have a MIL Light on but it is because of the o2 sensor. But replacing the waterpump, belt and pulley can't have anything to do with this? I mean, there is no connection and I don't know why it just began after that! Could it be because of a bad o2? I've read online that that can also be the problem. Maybe someone can help me out. Hi. My engine does not idle for more than 3 seconds then switches off. And switches off immediately when I boost with accelerator. What could be the problem?
mine used to do this until i finally replaced the CAT and the front and rear sensors its been fine for years until recently i tried to rev and pull away and the stupid light came back, i stopped turned engine off waited a bit then started engine, the light stayed off all way home.
I cleaned it. But didn’t work :( May be my problem is a bit different. The RPM always stays at 0.6, stable. Only have observed engine stop at traffic light, three times. Otherwise car runs fine. No limp mode. There is always no light when i start. I drive it, it appears after half a mile. Please reply if you can help. Thanks.
Brake pedal switch i already replaced with new. No change. OBD scanner reads following; 18049, 17550, 17961 Dtc memory of A/C ecu P1641 Lower calculation check lower limit exceeded p1142 Baromatric manifold pressure signals implausable correlation p1553, Respectively. 00293- multi function switch f125 no signal 01166- engine torque signal no signal 01166-engine torque signal signal outside tolerances. These all are codes.if it helps
Either the previous owner put tape over it to hide problems or like in my case, the light just does not work. I opened it to check if there is any tape in there and the led is just burnt. I had the buzzer not working also. That one I fixed by replacing rhe burnt speaker with a keadphone speaker. Works perfectly. zxz1357 I might have a few videos from when I’ve opened it but mostly photos taken for reference. To know how to put them back. 😁 When I opened it I just changed the speaker because it was not working. Used a headphone speaker and works perfectly. If you really want to do this, be prepared to mess up your instrument cluster. 😬 I wouldn’t open it now unless something really important stops working. You’d have to remove all the indicators from their motors and those are a pain to put back in the right position. Without a VAG-COM or VCDS interface, it cannot be done well. VCDS had a mode that puts each indicator needle to zero-middle. With that you install them. If you don’t do that, the indicators will work but showing you the wrong speed/ fuel left/ rpm. Better leve it or order a VAG-COM interface now if you don’t have that already. Not sure if I’ll find enough video to upload but there must be something, if I do it won’t be soon. 1-3 months. 😅 Won’t be able to show how to change the LED, because I didn’t feel that lucky and with no spare instrument cluster or car, didn’t want to risk breaking the car too much. 😅

Check the water reservoir if the fluid there looks foamy or if you see any oil there. Check the engine oil and see if the oil is dark and clear or if it looks creamy. Engine may be burning oil or worse cooling fluid mixed with oil.
Salut, eu și eu o problemă la mașină, dacă merg mai turat( peste 3000rpm) cam 15-20 minute începe să îmi ia razna turometru, adică dacă accelerez doar, merge de la 6000 la 2000 de la 2000 la 5000 și tot așa, face ca nebunul. O singură dată mi s o aprins becul de la EPC și nu o mai tras mașina, am oprit o și repornit o și o tras după dar dacă o turam tot oscila turometru. Am dus o la mecanic și ăla o spus ca i o dat eroare la computer de bord nu la ceva senzor, nu știu ce să cred despre asta, o zis și el ca nu știe cat de bun e tester ul pe partea de electronice. Oare ar putea fi de la senzorul ăsta de accelerație, menționez ca am făcut drumuri și de 200 km cu mașina și dacă nu o turam peste 3000 nu avea nimic
Eu nu am avut probleme cu turometrul decat foarte rar cand acceleram cred intre 1000 si 2000 agata pentru o clipa turometrul cand urca de parca era ceva care il tinea sa urce. Problema aia aparea foarte rar si doar o data sau 2-3 ori. Inainte sa zici ca miroase a benzina ma gandeam ca e doar un senzor sau ecu/ instrument cluster o ia razna. Miroase a benzina tot timpul? Poate sunt probleme diferite. Cand turometru o ia razna, motorul se simte normal sau 'tuseste'? Foloseste obd2 si fa-i log la turatii motor si viteza in timp ce conduci. Recreaza problema cu turometrul si vezi daca in log apar fluctuațiile asa cum le vezi pe dashboard/ instrument cluster. EPC can be many thing but if the RPM has problems the throttle body is your target. O2 sensor could be related and it's good to change those for better fuel savings. Hope you get it to work!
Contact cleaner works too, just you have to do it more often.Any brand of contact cleaner - the ones for cleaning electrical connections or potentiometers.

Tried cleaning that throttle body and made it shiny but only messing with this electrical connector fixed it for me.

Throttle body is behind the engine, where the air filter goes to.

Curata clapeta de acceleratie cu CARB SPRAY dar fara sa o misti, doar pana la clapeta in interior.
Daca tot umblii acolo poti sa pornesti motorun cu filtru scos si sa dai spray scurt jumatate de secunda in clapeta de acceleratie - admisie asa se mai curata chiar pe linia unde e clapeta - poate sa fie mizerie mazga ulei sau resturi carbonizate acolo.
Motorul se tureaza putin cand dai carb spray, e normal.

In general motoarele, mici, , care au răcire deficienta, acolo apar toate tipurile de probleme din cauza căldurii excesive cât și a " anului de fabricație". Mulțumesc

Try to use an obd2 reader to get some error codes if any. I read some comments that it could be a bad solder joint in the dashboard but I think it might be the coolant temperature sensor.

Hi friend, I liked the information... look, in my case I don't have any light on the panel on, but when I travel 700km, the pole turns on several lights and almost goes down, but then everything is fine, there are no errors that crazy...🙄🤔
Check coolant level and check that engine temperature does not rise slightly when you press harder on the gas pedal. Should be fixed in up position around 90 degrees.
I have a 2004 VW Polo 1.4 BBY engine. Just replaced 16 Valve Stem seals WITHOUT REMOVING THE HEAD and now the EPC light has come ON. Will try this trick and see what happens. VW's can be a pain sometimes, but good Cars to drive.

hey bro nice video it also worked for me but if you want a once for all solution it would be chaging the trotttle body wire plug vw sent out a bulleting adressing this issue once you rewire the trotle body connector you wont ever have to use wd on the plug ever again

It means the engine is running 'rich'. Probably fuel economy is not great too.
There could be many reasons for that. This is one of them.
Could be any of these or more:
Fuel injectors,
Engine wear,
Spark plugs,
Induction coils,
O2 sensors,
ECU.
These are few reasons I can think of is the smell comes from the tail pipe.
Otherwise it's more dangerous if petrol is leaking anywhere from the tank on it's way to the fuel injectors.

My 2003 elite polo has had exact issue. Revs will go up and down, then EPC light comes on the car is running very rough and eventually just turns off.
Tried this trick and it worked for 24 hrs.
The throttle and accelerator have been changed. Any ideas?

Do not put wd-40 inside the reservoir. Only on the connector and connector socket but not inside where coolant goes.
Saying it just to be super clear. This is for the electrical contacts.

So I put WD 40 in the connector like you said and the epc light came on still, but this time it didnt go limp mode completely as much, the acceleration was just really slow but it go up to 70 kmph eventually, though it felt held back a bit. Do you think I just didnt put enough on it? Wasnt the brake light switch cause that was changed too. Im gonna try to clean the throttle body next tho xD

You could use contact cleaner spray for electric / electronics.
It won't last long like that but it's easy to repeat.

Thank you very much for this video.I bought a car vw polo 1.2 from 2004 and it has AZQ engine.The car had this EPC problem but it was not coming at starting mostly after driving 15-30 minutes epc light turn on and car goes to limp mood.I took the car to mechanic and he told me to change throttle body, throttle padel, lambda sensors and catalyst and i have done everything but problem wasn't sloved at the end mechanik told me to change the engine control module and i have ordered that but while i have ordered that i found your video and i have ordered the throttle body connector and i gave it to mechanic to change the old connector and replace with new.And now the car is not throwing any problem and running like a charm just now i am concerned about only intake temperature because in obd2 it is showing while i am driving the temperature is going up to 80 degree.Is it a bad intake temperature?
Temp in dashboard should be straight up at around 90 celsius. I'm glad you got it sorted but that mechanic oh my... He threw parts(and your money) at the problem too much.

I currently have this problem after accelerating quickly. I've cleaned the connections and now the check engine light has now appeared. It is a 1.2 polo 9n 2003. Any advice is welcome. I've tried to check the codes yet non are appearing. I've ordered a new obd reader so hopefully that gives me more of an indication of what's going on
I had rubber stuck in the throttle body. Any idea where that would of came from?
@@krawzzy2599 rubber in tb is from the Engine Air filter housing or there is no air filter in there.

No need to disconnect the battery but key should not be in the car/ignition.
@@IONHowTo UPDATE: your solution worked on my Seat Toledo 1M. For those who has the EPC light on after this: try to drive around for a half an hour, if you have climate control try to turn it on for a while , after this you have have a nice stable idle.

Hi , i have vw polo 1.4 petrol 2009 , When driving the car while the air conditioning is running and I press the clutch and brake to stop the car or reduce the speed, the engine suddenly stops. I have changed many parts of the engine and the problem still exists. Note that this problem does not occur when the air conditioner is off …
I changed all parts of the engine and the problem did not end. Some mechanics told me that there is a general problem with the engine compression in this type of engines ( BUD 1.4 ) and you cannot solve it unless you change the engine .
.. now I completely changed the engine to a model (CGG ),, and the problem still exists.. This is going to make me crazy
You changed the whole engine and it does the same? First I would change the mechanic, get another opinion.
A obd2 scan is the first thing to check for.

Never happened to me because of the AC but could be the AC compressor or even AC refrigerant?

Same issue with my car, except after a couple minutes, the car falls flat and dies. Also, my Traction Control light comes on in sync with the EPC light, and happened twice after getting a full tank of fuel. Could this still be the throttle body as I've changed the TB/Maf already? Thanks!

Yeah might be a problem with dirt/rust or one of the wires on the connector terminals.

My car sometimes does the same, but other times the powersteering light would go on and i would lose powersteering, the clock will reset, and an alarm will beep twice. I then switch off the car and start it again, and everything will be fine again. Do you think this will also fix my problem?

It's the throttle body electrical connector. Should be very similar on your car.
If your car has those symptoms, it's worth trying to clean it.

Have you had a problem with no error code on 2002 polo going into limp with no notice. After driving fine for 500 miles plus replaced two cylinder coils and all plugs. Was running great for past month until tonight. Is there a fuel filter. It’s hard to diagnose with no code. Just popped into limp mode
There is a fuel filter but I bever had problems with that.
Coils are always going bad on these cars. 😅
When the coils in mine were bad it had misfire codes in engine scan.
Hi! My car's EPC light came on and the car went into limp mode. First I changed the throttle body but still no improvement. Next I changed the Electronic accelerator unit and now the car only cranks but won't start at all.
Needs a scan for error codes. That could give you some hint of what’s wrong.

Hi I tried to look at that switch but it still like that....
I changed the water pump, tensioner pulley and belt on a 1.2 Polo AZQ, and the throttle suddenly is a bit "awkward", but nothing bad, after driving a bit, the epc light came on and the engine just doesn't accelerated, after turning it off and on again, no EPC light and it was like before. I do have a MIL Light on but it is because of the o2 sensor. But replacing the waterpump, belt and pulley can't have anything to do with this? I mean, there is no connection and I don't know why it just began after that! Could it be because of a bad o2? I've read online that that can also be the problem. Maybe someone can help me out. Thanks

mine used to do this until i finally replaced the CAT and the front and rear sensors its been fine for years until recently i tried to rev and pull away and the stupid light came back, i stopped turned engine off waited a bit then started engine, the light stayed off all way home.

May be my problem is a bit different. The RPM always stays at 0.6, stable. Only have observed engine stop at traffic light, three times. Otherwise car runs fine. No limp mode. There is always no light when i start. I drive it, it appears after half a mile. Please reply if you can help. Thanks.
Don't know what it is. Could be a something completely different like a pedal sensor. Needs obd2 scan.

Do you have any ideea why the check engine light won't show up?( I have a 9n3 1.2 bbm with same light missing even since i bought it)
Either the previous owner put tape over it to hide problems or like in my case, the light just does not work.
I opened it to check if there is any tape in there and the led is just burnt.
I had the buzzer not working also. That one I fixed by replacing rhe burnt speaker with a keadphone speaker. Works perfectly. I have older log videos that will make a nice a youtube video for removing the instruments cluster and fixing the speaker.

When I opened it I just changed the speaker because it was not working.
Used a headphone speaker and works perfectly.
If you really want to do this, be prepared to mess up your instrument cluster. 😬
I wouldn’t open it now unless something really important stops working.
You’d have to remove all the indicators from their motors and those are a pain to put back in the right position.
Without a VAG-COM or VCDS interface, it cannot be done well.
VCDS had a mode that puts each indicator needle to zero-middle.
With that you install them.
If you don’t do that, the indicators will work but showing you the wrong speed/ fuel left/ rpm.
Better leve it or order a VAG-COM interface now if you don’t have that already.
Not sure if I’ll find enough video to upload but there must be something, if I do it won’t be soon. 1-3 months. 😅
Won’t be able to show how to change the LED, because I didn’t feel that lucky and with no spare instrument cluster or car, didn’t want to risk breaking the car too much. 😅

Check the water reservoir if the fluid there looks foamy or if you see any oil there.
Check the engine oil and see if the oil is dark and clear or if it looks creamy.
Engine may be burning oil or worse cooling fluid mixed with oil.
Salut, eu și eu o problemă la mașină, dacă merg mai turat( peste 3000rpm) cam 15-20 minute începe să îmi ia razna turometru, adică dacă accelerez doar, merge de la 6000 la 2000 de la 2000 la 5000 și tot așa, face ca nebunul. O singură dată mi s o aprins becul de la EPC și nu o mai tras mașina, am oprit o și repornit o și o tras după dar dacă o turam tot oscila turometru. Am dus o la mecanic și ăla o spus ca i o dat eroare la computer de bord nu la ceva senzor, nu știu ce să cred despre asta, o zis și el ca nu știe cat de bun e tester ul pe partea de electronice. Oare ar putea fi de la senzorul ăsta de accelerație, menționez ca am făcut drumuri și de 200 km cu mașina și dacă nu o turam peste 3000 nu avea nimic
Miroase și puțin a benzină
Eu nu am avut probleme cu turometrul decat foarte rar cand acceleram cred intre 1000 si 2000 agata pentru o clipa turometrul cand urca de parca era ceva care il tinea sa urce.
Problema aia aparea foarte rar si doar o data sau 2-3 ori.
Inainte sa zici ca miroase a benzina ma gandeam ca e doar un senzor sau ecu/ instrument cluster o ia razna.
Miroase a benzina tot timpul? Poate sunt probleme diferite.
Cand turometru o ia razna, motorul se simte normal sau 'tuseste'?
Foloseste obd2 si fa-i log la turatii motor si viteza in timp ce conduci.
Recreaza problema cu turometrul si vezi daca in log apar fluctuațiile asa cum le vezi pe dashboard/ instrument cluster.

EPC can be many thing but if the RPM has problems the throttle body is your target.
O2 sensor could be related and it's good to change those for better fuel savings.

Hi, I used contact cleaner in the past but it was lasting a lot less(2-3 months) than wd40. WD40 makes it go away for 1-2 years maybe even more.
