The EPC light is an indicator for a variety of issues and is basically a warning to get your service station to hook up and read the codes. We did this today, and turns out one of the pistons has very low compression. We have an expensive option ahead to have the engine lifted and the pistons repaired, and if we had just ignored the EPC light and assumed it was something small and kept driving around we could have stuffed the whole engine.

My EPC and check engine light is always on. My mechanic told me it misfires because my spark plugs have burnt out quickly and I need to have it replaced every 2 months. When I had it replaced, my car runs fine. Then 2 months later both lights came on again when it started to throttle. Been driving it like this for a whole 3 months straight and suddenly it broke down on me. Couldn't accelerate or start up my engine. Now I don't know what will happen after it broke down on me. Could it be the spark plug? I need some advice. Let me know what i need to do to have it back running.

My neighbor has 2018 Passat with ~15k miles. Today out of nowhere, the EPC and Check engine light lit up after she drove about 100 meters in the morning. For about an hour she tried to start the car again, drive a bit, but the car was running rough when idle, but driving wasn't too bad. Although engine power was limited. Vehicle sat for a few hours while owner called VW dealership (car is still under warranty). By the time they drove off to VW dealership the above lights disappeared. I still advised them to drive to VW and get the car checked out. To me, it sounds like some type of vacuum leak as it happens in idle, but car with such low miles...maybe it is a VW thing and it is normal.

Interesting. I have a 2015 Jetta 2.0 and just hit 40,000 miles. The EPC has come on a few times and when I pull over and turn the car off for 2 minutes it seems to work fine. I did look under the hood (no mods) and I noticed a mess around the throttle body intake hose. I pulled it and it slid right off without loosening the clamp....

Joels Driveway man, it didn’t fix the problem. I have the car serviced regularly by VW and it’s always checked out fine. I really don’t want to change out the throttle body, but it’s a small investment since the car has been so good to me. Maybe I need to buy an OBD scanner? Seems like a reasonable thing to spend under $40 on, if it can tell me what’s up. Once the car sits overnight, the “Check Engine” turns off. The thing I really want to do is program the car so the horn doesn’t sound when I lock the car. What a POS sound THAT is.

@@JoelsDriveway i did not repoace the fuel injectors because after i replaced the fuel pressure regulator i checked for spark and got no spark. Its immobilized. I then switched to replacing crankshaft position sensor and gas pedal. In the beginning i got codes 1780 1850 and 0725 i changed the crankshaft position sensor. The battery died and i have not gotten it to start since. Tomorrow im taking out the drivers seat so i can get comfterable and check all wires connected to the relay panel
