Lashing On: Attaching the warp to the cloth beam apron rod.

  • Lashing-on as a method for attaching the warp to the front apron rod uses less warp than other methods and, when done correctly, helps maintain even tension across the width of the warp. THIS VIDEO WAS MADE FOR THE SHADOW BOX TOWELS WEAVE-ALONG, but the principle is the same for every warp.

    MUCH better way to tie up than trying to tie onto the rod. Way better. Thanks.

    Thank you! As a brand new weaver I have found this technique super useful abs a lot easier than tying the bundles on individually.

    I have struggled with lashing on, and now I can see why. I wasn't keeping tension on the lashing cord. I also love the tip on how to measure for the length of the lashing cord. This is an excellent video and gives me the confidence to give it another go. Thanks!

    Thank you! Very helpful video. I had no problems with lashing on, following your instructions. ;-)

    Thank you for this, been 30 years since I have woven, and I could not remember how to lash on. I just acquired a 2 harness run loom for $8! Just finished restoring it-it's a Union #36 that was well taken care of, I just had to clean out some dust bunnies and give it a nice wax on the wood!

    This was a GREAT video and very helpful to me as a new weaver! I am going to look for another one on how to attach the warp to the BACK beam as I have trouble with that.

    Thank you so much for this video, I've been afraid to try it because I didn't understand how to adjust the tension. I'll give it a try now, just have to get some Texsolve or something like that.

      Texsolve will work, but I just use doubled carpet warp. It's inexpensive and strong enough (when doubled) to withstand a lot of tension.

    Many thanks for the video. I was just warping a project and realized I didn't account for enough yarn waste. This will save me a few inches, which will be perfect!

    After lashing on, what method have you found to be the best (using the least amount of warp length) for evening out the triangles between groups of threads?

  • @abittwisted

    Noted on your floating selvage that you tied it up with no tension and lots and lots of slack. Confused. Im just learning the weaving process. I have done some simple weaving but nothing on a large loom yet.

    • @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162
      @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I tie my floating selvedges to the apron rod and then tension them separately from the rest of the warp by using weights and letting them drop behind the warp beam.

  • @manofmann

    I struggle with this method as it seems to pull my warp together. Any suggestions as to what I might be doing wrong?

    • @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162
      @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe your thread groups are too big? I make mine no bigger than about 3/4". You can also try tying the selvedge threads in smaller groups; 1/2" or so. And make sure you angle the weft in so it's not tight enough to pull the warp together.

  • @KnittingsAndSewings

    But where is the new yarn/warp chains that you will be adding? I'm confused.

    • @alexbrand3862

      she already has the back beam wound with the warp she's using. Essentially she's just extending the useable area of the warp on the front beam so that there is less weaving waste. At the end of the video she's ready to start throwing weft picks to spread her warp.

    • @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162
      @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I warp back to front so what you see in the video is the warp after it's been beamed on the warp beam.

    Did you warp from fb or bf or does it matter?

    • @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162
      @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I warp from back to front, but it doesn't matter. Warping front to back, you can also use this technique to lash on to the warp beam apron rod.
