Weaving False or Mock Satin Damask Pick-up on Four Shafts
This weave structure makes it possible to weave an image on four shafts and creates a reversible fabric. The method requires patience and close attention to detail; slow going but a lot of fun to watch the images emerge.

Warping with 2 Ends at a Time
มุมมอง 9K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Warping with 2 ends at a time achieves two good things: It cuts the time it takes to wind the warp by half, and it helps maintain even tension throughout the warp. PLEASE NOTE: THIS VIDEO WAS MADE FOR THE COLOR COLLECTION TOWELS WEAVE ALONG on Facebook so what is shown is the warp color order for that pattern, but the process is the same for any warp. If you're on Facebook I hope you'll join on...
Lashing On: Attaching the warp to the cloth beam apron rod.
มุมมอง 31K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Lashing-on as a method for attaching the warp to the front apron rod uses less warp than other methods and, when done correctly, helps maintain even tension across the width of the warp. THIS VIDEO WAS MADE FOR THE SHADOW BOX TOWELS WEAVE-ALONG, but the principle is the same for every warp. My weaving patterns are available on Etsy: www.etsy.com/shop/SarahHJackson If you're on Facebook I would ...

    After lashing on, what method have you found to be the best (using the least amount of warp length) for evening out the triangles between groups of threads?

    Since I was too lazy to try to figure out the tie-up, I purchased the pattern and measured off an eight-inch wide warp of 200 threads for practice. There was a bit of a learning curve over the first few inches of my piece, but now I'm in the swing of it and the design (my own) is starting to emerge. Since I'm weaving it on a table loom, I added an additional step which is very helpful in eliminating unwanted floats: reinserting the pickup stick in the shed before passing the shuttle through.

    I keep twisting one thread around the other. When you change hands, do you switch the position of each thread? The one in the inside comes to the outside position

      Hi Camilo, Don't worry about keeping the threads in perfect order while you're winding. If you hold the threads and use your hands as demonstrated, the order will straighten out when you have it on the loom. Thanks for watching!

    Hammer the end of the wire with a ball peen hammer on a steel block then file the now rounded edge with a metal file. That will finish it with a smooth edge that won’t cut you…. No need for tape to get stuck

    Thanks so much for the great video. I do have a question. What happens when your colour pattern calls for an odd number? I am working with 4 colours. The pattern calls for 2 colours 21 times at the start, 19 times at the end and 5 and 3 times in the middle. Would I cut and tie the colours at the top (half a complete loop)? Or I guess i could tie it off (like you did at the bottom) on an unused peg at the top? Would that work? and when I need the colour again I'd have to start at the top and count down the board? I'm over thinking it all and getting confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated... Thanks 🙂

      @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Maybe your thread groups are too big? I make mine no bigger than about 3/4". You can also try tying the selvedge threads in smaller groups; 1/2" or so. And make sure you angle the weft in so it's not tight enough to pull the warp together.

    • @alexbrand3862
      @alexbrand3862 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      she already has the back beam wound with the warp she's using. Essentially she's just extending the useable area of the warp on the front beam so that there is less weaving waste. At the end of the video she's ready to start throwing weft picks to spread her warp.

    • @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162
      @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tie my floating selvedges to the apron rod and then tension them separately from the rest of the warp by using weights and letting them drop behind the warp beam.

    Thank you for your video, a clear explanation. My question is what happens now, once you have beamed the warp, and are threading the heddle, you you will have two threads together instead of one together in the cross. Does it matter which of the two threads you thread first? Thank you.

    • @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162
      @sarahjacksonhandwovendesig1162 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for watching! It doesn't matter which of the two threads is threaded first, and the same is true for more than two ends. I've warped as many as 8 ends at a time, all different colors, and threaded them in random order.
